Scratch: a simple scripting languages for all ages that allows users, or "Scratchers", to create their own projects which could be games, animations, or simulations.

I use Scratch often and love making my own games. I make many kinds of games, and there are tons of games, including pokemon, mario, etc. on there that people have created. Don't worry--Scratch has a Creative Commons license that allows the users to use any photo, copyrighted or not, in their projects as long as they don't use it for commercial purposes and keep it at free use for anyone.

Scratch is the link to the website. You should check it out, maybe you'll find it something you'll like. Post your username here and/or any projects you have created. I haven't quite finished any pokemon/mario/video game projects, but I'd be more than glad to check one out that you have created!

Note: I am not advertising, I just want to let people know of a simple way to make simple games. If this is against the rules, please remove it.

Scratch does all the coding for you, which is kind of cool, but it isn't considered a "real programming language".  I use Python, which is relatively easy, but I actually do the programming.  When you use code to make a game, there's more options for you to choose from and you can control exactly what happens in-game.  All the good games are coded using an official programming language, sometimes even a specific language designed by the game company itself.

Scratch is cool, but it's a tool for beginners.  If you want an easy coding experience, try Python or Game Maker (at yoyogames.com).  I use Game Maker, which has a Python-related language built in, called GML, and also has an easy drag and drop event lists and such (similar to Scratch).  Although, it is up to you to decide what you do, I'm just giving you advice.

I did for a while but I found it could not do all that I wanted it to do. Very fun to mess around with though as you do not have to have any direction in your mind as a whole. You just start doing.
