How do you feel about big title games from Japan that don't get to your own country or continent?

It annoys me a bit that some games are not released for the U.S., but at the same time the companies have to think about what market they are dealing with. Some games that were released in Japan would not be popular enough to make a profit from in the U.S. One example I could give you would be Capcom's Monster Hunter series. Granted, this series had been a hit in the U.S., but to me, it was a close call. The first Monster Hunter game which came out in 2004 was not a big hit with most people for several reasons. 1) the game is more technical than others because leveling up does not improve your character. 2) The controls are hard to work with, especially for the PSP games (the first one did not have a pause button!). 3) Even the latest game has not gotten top ratings from reviewers because it still has difficult controls for beginners and the gameplay is repetitive.

The differences between the Japanese market and U.S. market are much more different than what you or I can think of. The game developers and publishers must know who they are trying to sell to in order to actually sell their games. If they cannot provide what enough players would want, it is not worth the money for investing.

AuraBlaze : understandable, but what about those people who are fans of said product? I just find it frustrating that just because it's not worth investing, that's why companies aren't sending over those games and localizing them. I know it's a lot of hard work to have to translate them and have probably dual audio and such, but the people who do want games like that are really missing out or have to import them, which can be a hassle.

I really cannot say much more. For games that are not copied for countries other than Japan, they just may not appeal to enough people. If they cannot sell so-and-so number of copies, then it is not worth converting. For the fans, they may have to deal with using a copy that is in Japanese. I know for a fact that it is possible to buy individual copies and have it shipped to America for personal use. Other than that, I have no answer.

In several cases, fans have taken the matters into their own hands. One of the most prominent examples I can think of was the Mother 3 fan translation project. After the folks at starmen.net tried everything to get Mother 3 officially translated, a talented group decided it was time to give the fans what they wanted. So they went through this whole process and redistributed the game that was now fully translated into English.
