Who thinks that a sub forum for Newbies to make friends with other newbies and to ask questions to Mods and experienced vizzed members is a good idea?

I told David07 about this awhile ago I just never got around to getting feedback on it like he told me to. But who thinks this that a Newbie subforum where Newbies can interact with eachother is a good idea? I know you're probably thinking we already have that but I see the Newbie forum as just for introducing themselves not making friends. And eventhough they ask questions in that forum, wouldn't it be better to just make a sub forum for Newbie questions all together?

I'm personally fine with it. It would need to be moderated a little to prevent excessive spamming, but if it was there, maybe you could only see an access it if you were of newbie powerlevel or moderator, that would be an okay thing.

It's not bad, but moderation is key. When I was new to the site I made friends easily enough, although some may have problems. I think newbies should be encouraged to join clubs to get to know like minded people, but that may be just me.

And we have the Help forum and RGR forum if they have questions, and there's also the Local Moderator, RGR Staff, Global moderator, and Admin accounts that they could send pm's to if they're having problems.

Juliet : Well what if a Mod is too busy? I know when I was a newbie and I had questions I sent a PM and they wouldnt get back to me so I had to figure it out on my own. And the Help forum is for general help but I think this new forum could offer more then JUST help. It would give them a chance to associate with fellow newbies but also normal member. And I know as a Mod sometime you probably wish the newbies would just figure out their own problems right? Some people may feel that way I myself think of it as like one-on-one peer tutoring kind of but for vizzed related stuff.

I personally am ambivalent on the subject. I really do not think that it is needed, but I don't see the harm in it. I think it might be better if we encouraged that kind of thing in the current newbie area instead of making a whole new subforum, but that is just my two cents.

And the only way to get people more interested in the site and posting often is to show them that they are welcome to mingle with all the other members here.

Newbies are not a separate "type" of user. They should not be herded into their own forum, they should be encouraged to become part of the forum community... However, I don't really see too much harm in just one sub forum. You could try it and see how it went. If it ended up getting too spammy, off-topic or useless, then it could always be removed, right?
