There are a few things I would recommend:
1. Warm Milk. You may not like the taste unfortunately, but it always works for me. Whether or not it is psychological is yet to be determined.
2. Do extra credit homework if you are still in school. I do it when I can't sleep and I know I have a hefty workload. Also, if it bores you enough, that could help too.
3. As others have suggested, read, do puzzles, find something you are into that you can do at night. I also recommend taking up knitting as a hobby if you haven't already, You can create some wonderful things, and it has a very calming effect (not for me, but for most.)
4. Don't do any sort of gaming or anything that involves interacting with a screen. It wires your brain up and makes it harder to sleep. Unless you have a Kindle or something, that probably wouldn't be bad.

SunflowerGaming : I also suffer from insomnia, and all I can do is stay up until I pass out. What do I generally do? Watch TV shows, watch DVDs, play video games, clean up the room, draw, browse the Internet, play around online games. There's a lot of stuff you can actually do, but I'm not sure what you like to do.

I either read until I feel sleepy, or listen to a relaxation audio... There are a lot on Youtube. Usually I listen to either the sound of rain, the sound of the ocean, or someone reading a book...

Well first I try to take a shower then curl up in my bed. Now warning I'm a cold person so I take a cold shower then open up my bedroom window a bit for some nice cold air. (Yes also I never get a cold well maybe once a year~) Also I get my bed set up to have my legs elevated and an extra pillow to put between the legs. (Note mose insomnia is due to the fact your uncomfterble in bed so best try different possitions and methods of sleeping.) If all that fail I turn on my music, still nothing I go to games. In extream cases I pass the games up and go to the couch and watch TV till I fall asleep. Sometimes a good cat massage is in order~ ^^

Read a book or magazine. Or sometimes I just turn on my ipod and listen to some music with the lights off. The best weapon I've found against insomnia is exercise. I like to go to the ymca and run on the track to wear myself out early. Then when it gets late I'm out like a light.

I usually listens to the radio and the radio puts me to sleep. And if It don't put me to sleep I go outside to sit down and chill for a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I usually either watch movies, listen to music or find something entertaining to do. I hate insomnia.

I usually watch TV, and/or listen to my Ipod filled with over 5,000 songs until I eventually end up falling asleep.

Eating before sleep also helps MAKE you sleep but will give you nightmares.

Sleepless nights aren't fun at all. I just usually spend the time on my laptop, but that's not really the best way to deal with it since i usually end up staying up the whole night. I think watching TV helps...its technically the same as a computer but theres a slight difference. I can't quite put my finger on it, though. I sometimes ind myself just lying down watching TV then suddenly drifting off, so I guess that can help.

Have you tried taking melatonin? that helps. garlic strangely helps too. otherwise, read a book, or do something that bores you, and you'll be asleep in no time!

I happen to have insomnia too. What I used to do was play videogames until I passed out. Usually hardcore fighting games like BlazBlue or anything that requires large amounts of concentration.

HOWEVER, the most effective method I have is this:
1: Leave one lamp on in a corner of the room so there is a little light
2: Listen to music with my back facing the lamp.

The music I listen to must be high quality and listened to with headphones. Not ear buds but headphones. Buy a comfortable pair if you need to.
The music I listen to is A Farce and a few other songs by ZTS, .hack//SIGN soundtrack by Yuki Kaijura and by then I should have fallen asleep. A Farce is 10 minutes long and ridiculously soothing for some reason despite it being trance/techno.

Hope this helped fellow insomniac!
