I just landed a job at Vector Marketing. They sell knives. Kitchen knives, not killing knives. Bummer haha. It's half-telemarketing and half door-to-door. So if I call you asking for knives, BUY ONE!!! Joking, chances are I won't keep it for long. But I need something useful to put on my resume. So I guess this is it.

Zeldisaster : First I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your new job… I myself have tried various telemarketing jobs over the years and most of them were a waste of time. I wasn’t too comfortable with the whole concept of telemarketing and how they do the job etc. I came to the conclusion that telemarketing wasn’t for me after three or four jobs that didn’t work out. I did spend some time working for Home Shopping Network though many years ago and for the most part that was enjoyable until I was let go.

I am a writer so I know how it is to struggle to make money so what ever job one can get even in this economy you should value it because there are an awful lot of people whom need work but either can’t find one that will adequately support that person and or their family or, simply can’t find a job at all.

I will say as someone who’s struggled to make a living that it can certainly be challenging at times and it can definitely be a downer when you feel as if nothing is going right in your life and, you constantly have the cards stacked against you.

Despite the struggles that I have incurred in my life and the subsequent hard times where I’ve questioned myself I have never referred to myself as a loser and you shouldn’t either.

Whether or not someone has gainful employment is irrelevant to whether or not that person is a decent person. If a person does not have a job that does not make them a loser or a bum. No one in this world is perfect and especially now because of the recession people all over are being forced to play some rough hands that have been dealt regardless of their skills and vocations. There have been many stories over the last three years since this recession started about many college graduates many of whom with multiple degrees and training being unable to gain solid gainful employment.

It is not a person’s employment status that defines a person. It is how that person lives their life and how they treat the people in their lives that defines them. Please have more confidence in yourself.

It is something that I have had trouble with personally from time to time as I have at times lacked confidence in my abilities and, it isn’t a healthy thing. I am still waiting for the break that I need before I myself will consider myself a success and have paid many of hard dues trying to achieve that goal.

As I said it has been challenging at various stages in my life to get recognition if not adequate pay. Despite that I remain optimistic that one day the years of hard work all the all-nighters I’ve pulled and, all the hours that I’ve put into honing my craft will finally pay off. If you have a goal you’re never down and out trust me.

It is the people who deliberately sponge off others and use relationships to take advantage of a friend or family member rather then use their ability to change their situation themselves that are the ones that I would consider a problem. It is never good to call someone names even when they deserve it so I won’t use the term loser.

pieman9 : You're young so you may not know much about telemarketing but it not a strange job at all and is actually one of the most common industries out there for job seekers next to of course the fast food industry. The problem with the telemarketing industry is that most of the jobs out there are out bound calling where you're calling people trying to swede a sale.

If one has no other option except telemarketing the best jobs to aim for are the ones that are in bound calling where people call you similar to a customer service rep kind of job. The other major problem with the telemarketing industry is there is a high turnover so it isn't really one of those jobs that one can really feel secure in their employment regardless of how good and dedicated to the job you may be.


The sad thing is that for some people the options are very limited in a recession like this and particularly for those with physical limitations or disabled as I am. So for some people they may not have a choice. As for me, I made the decision years ago to really buckle down and persue my career as a writer which in itself has it's own share of obstacles especially if you're a freelancer as I am. I hope I cleared up any confusion you may have had.
