I only watch T.V. online when I have missed a new episode and forgot to record it on my DVR when it came on as a repeat. I would use Hulu Plus or Netflix. I don't do this much since I always tend to catch the repeats on T.V. But if a channel was down I would have to resort to watching T.V online.

Markeith21 : Hulu.com is the other obvious one. Then their is also Netflix. The many other sites are a little less than legal so I wouldn't want to mention or advertise those here, especially don't user torrents though because that could actually lead to some trouble.

I live on my own with 2 other friends and we recently decided paying for our satellite tv was becoming too expensive so we now only pay for internet and just dropped dish. Besides the money another factor that made us decide to drop dish all together was for some reason dish got rid of FOX as one of their channels , and we used to watch a lot of FOX.

We now have subscriptions to Hulu Plus and Netflix which we can watch right on our big screen tvs through our xbox360. I personally don't mind  not having any sort of cable television as long as I still do have highspeed internet , with Hulu and Netflix you pretty much get TV along with your highspeed internet.

Ktanaqui : Yes computers are pretty much the world’s life source now of days. I know there are more and more people (Myself included) looking for telecommuting jobs and such. Far as writing I’m a writer and I will freely admit I probably wouldn’t be a writer, much less a journalist had it not been for the internet. I just wish that after writing for most of my life that I were able to adequately support myself off of my work. Lord knows I put more than my fair share of time into my work and although it can be very stressful, very frustrating, and at times very lonely I find it very rewarding. I just wish that I were making a decent living. It’s hard to justify sometimes because people either assume that writing is easy or that you’ll be able to walk into a newspaper or magazine and demand pay. I’ve been writing for 16 yrs. If it were that easy I would be financially secure by now. It’s not for everyone you have to be very dedicated to the craft of writing, willing to constantly critique yourself and improve, and willing to put up with the criticism, ridicule, and the frustrations of often doing the work but not being compensated.

In that sense it’s frustrating on a personal level because I have really become a hermit to a degree and have a habit of throwing myself into my work when things are normal and or, when there is a stressful situation. I hope one of these days I will be able to meet someone who will be willing to put up with my workload. I know I’m not getting any younger so it would be nice to be able to settle down eventually and or, be able to start my own business where I can bring other writers in to share the work, pay them adequately and perhaps make it just a little easier on myself in the process. Least I hope so. I know that there are friends that I’ve reconnected with online that have been really trying to get me to meet up with them but I always find a way to use work as an excuse.

Other than for Christmas, when things are normal I pretty much go non-stop. If you’ve ever heard the saying minutes turn to hours, hours turn to days, days turn to years you probably can understand what I put myself through. I just hope that one day all of it will pay off and I’ll finally be able to stop and enjoy the fruits of my labor at least for a couple of days. Having a mini fridge would be cool.

cnw64 : I don’t really view it as resorting. In my case I think of it as more or less the best of both worlds for the most part. Having subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu definitely has it’s advantages. I have had Netflix for close to two years and I love it. I’ve had Hulu for close to a year and minus CBS shows it’s great for keep up with current TV shows but they also have a healthy mix of stuff that isn’t currently on Netflix. I’m also a member of Amazon prime and have free access to their streaming service. For now their service is a combination subscription (For prime members) and pay as you go similar to VuDu. I personally think if Amazon went to strictly subscription based and kept it free for Prime members as it almost is now and charged a regular fee for non-prime members that they would give Netflix a good run for their money. I am going to be buying a Roku player hopefully in the next week or so. I’ll finally have all my streaming services in one place on a media player. I just hope that Roku’s YouTube app is better than the one I’ve been using on my media player.

Markeith21 : Well I won’t lie I have used online live streaming sites to cover fight cards mostly international cards that are not available in the US. I have also purchased rights to view cards online from promoters who use streaming sites. If there were a way to pay for all of them I would certainly do so. Lord knows I spend more on pay-per-view in a year then I make simply because I have to pay to work more often than not. It’s frustrating at times but I love what I do. As far as YouTube I am on YouTube everyday so I can relate.

LegolasJJH : As someone who has satellite TV I can understand where you’re coming from. It can be annoying sometimes especially when the sat caster is in a carriage dispute with the networks. It seems like more of those disputes have been happening since the recession. I have had satellite for almost a decade. Unfortunately for me I use my television and my computers to do my work so I need it even if some minor inconveniences come with it due to occasional carriage disputes. I know that I have been waiting and begging my provider to add Epix and Wealth TV to their service for a long time as it would make my job a little easier having access to cards that both those networks carry and thus I will be able to cover it. I found out that both are on Roku when I started looking and researching Roku’s streaming player. I just hope that they’ll let me subscribe to an online account since I don’t have access from my provider currently. Hopefully they’ll do me that favor one of these days and add those channels to my satellite. Lord knows they get enough money from me. I can’t complain about my provider though their great.

INRI : I’m starting to think that I need to start getting into anime more beyond the shows that I typically watch. If I were convinced I could make money as a TV critic I would certainly give it a shot. As a matter of fact one of the early Fox anime shows was The Critic with Jon Lovitz. I have always felt that it was an underrated show that was never really given the chance that it deserved. If memory served me Fox sold it to ABC but ABC didn’t keep it for long, it end up on Fox right behind The Simpsons when The Simpsons aired during the middle of the week as a lead in to Married…with Children. I miss those days quite frankly. Fox is still very good but I prefer the way Fox was in the 80's and early 90's. Miss those days. I wouldn’t mind seeing all the above on Netflix. I am a big fan of all three and they just took Married…with Children off this week. Hopefully that won’t last too long. It’s given me something to watch in the middle of the night on nights when I’m not working.

Yeah, I watch TV Shows on streams every now and again. When I'm into something on the internet, and don't feel like going afk to watch something on my TV, I just go to this stream site that broadcasts all the cable channels. For free.

pacman1755 : Like I said before I use streaming sites to cover Boxing cards but I really use that as a last resort when the card is either not available in the US on television or if it’s streamed online only. I have been looking at all the stuff that is available on Roku and the good news is one of the sites that I buy webcasts of cards on has a channel on there so that will make things much easier for me in addition to having more access to channels that I currently don’t have on my satellite dish. I’m also looking forward to checking out Crackle. I’ve never used Crackle before and am interested in the comparison to Netflix and Hulu. For me Netflix by far is the best out there right now that has a healthy mix of everything but one of the reasons I use multiple services is because I like having the option of finding something that may not be on one service but odds are will be on one of the others.

The only thing I wish these media players had was a web browser so that I could access the other streaming sites I use but I can’t complain. Maybe ten years from now streaming will be advanced to such a degree that one will have access to any stream from around the world on multiple devices at the click of a button for a subscription fee as Netflix has right now. I do love the fact that I can cover four cards in four different countries in one day without leaving my house. I feel that technology will only become more and more advanced though if I had a choice I would go back to the 80’s. For me that was the best time.

I do at times, depending on if there is something I really want to watch. I've been watching a couple episodes of Superman the animated series online the last few days.

I watch more TV on my computer than my TV :p

I watch Conan, the Daily Show, and Colbert Report on their sites... I watch a lot of stuff on Youtube. I also watch anime sometimes on Crunchyroll, ANN, or FUNimation's website.

metal572 : If I’m not mistaken I believe I saw Superman the animated series on Netflix the other day. Like I said before I am not really into Anime much beyond Fox’s Anime sitcoms but I have been thinking of getting into it more. I ordered my Roku yesterday so I plan on browsing Netflix more once it gets here as I believe it is suppose to have a similar interface to the PS3’s Netflix app. I just hope that it has the auto play feature. Gives me a good excuse when I’m not working or studying to pop on Law & Order and just sit back. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to use Amazon so I am also looking forward to watching NYPD Blue again.

mr.keys : Well when I first signed up for Netflix I was like that not watching it very often and sort of going back and forth between that and my satellite dish. The more I got to browse Netflix though the more into it I became. It will never be my primary source of entertainment but it’s always good to have as a back up when needed. Say for instance there is a bad storm or something that knocks your TV signal out (Assuming you have a satellite dish, but it’s been known to happen with cable as well.) As long as you have your internet connection you’ll have an alternative to get you through the time. Like I’ve said I mainly prefer my media player or I should say media players to watch my subscription services but if I had to travel or something I would definitely be using my laptop for it as well. I haven’t really heard of bleach. Is that another Anime series? I don’t know why I never really got into Anime much as a kid. I was always into sports, especially Boxing and wrestling but I did enjoy watching Tom and Jerry and a few of the Hannah Barbera cartoons. If memory serves me I think the Flintstones and the Jetsons were Hannah Barbera properties. They use to be on TBS all the time back when TBS was still controlled by Turner Broadcasting. TBS is still great don’t get me wrong but their basically more comedy now. Misses those days you can still get a little bit of everything on TBS but back then they had everything plus wrestling mixed in. At least TBS now is primarily more syndicated classic sitcoms than anything else.

Crazy Li : I watch all three and am a big Conan O’Brien fan going back to his original late night show on NBC. Admittedly though I haven’t watched much recently. I guess I need to get back into it. Perhaps I’ll start watching next week. My favorite bit that he use to do on the old late night show was “In the year 2000…” It was hilarious… They updated it slightly when he took over The Tonight Show but from what I understand he isn’t able to do it on his current show because NBC owns the rights to it. It’s a shame because like I said they were hilarious. My personal favorite was the one he did with Jim Carrey. I challenge anyone to watch that bit assuming you can find it online and keep a straight face. It’s impossible… No matter how many times I see that bit it always gets me laughing. I feel the same way about George Carlin. Grew up watching him and he is a guy that I idolized and patterned my writing style after. I have seen all his HBO specials and got to see him live in 2006. No matter how many times I may see him and see either the same bit or variations of the same material it always gets me laughing. The man was a genius god rest his soul.

Jon Stewart is similar to Carlin in many ways and I watch him from time to time. I still laugh when I think about the face off he had with Jim Cramer a few years ago. He really gave Cramer a verbal beating if you really think about it. The thing that bothers me sometimes is Stewart isn’t given nearly enough credit. He’s truly underrated in my view. Steven Colbert also fits in that category in my opinion. Very funny man, can play it serious but really isn’t given as much credit as he deserves for how talented he is.

You could throw Bill Maher and Lewis Black in there too.

bvd1022 : The Year 2000 bit was best when it was that premise... on the Tonight Show, it got changed to 3000 which was less funny... plus it was always Andy as the 2nd person instead of a random guest celebrity. It really wasn't the same anymore, so I don't mind the segment being gone.

One of my favorite things to see are the rare Triumph segments that sometimes appear. Triumph is awesome. Of newer stuff, I like any segment that Dion Cole is in, because he's a very funny comedian.

Crazy Li : As far as Andy Ritcher if you’ve been watching Conan from the beginning in the early 90’s you remember that Ritcher was always the second man in the act of “In the year 2000…” It didn’t change to using random celebrities until Ritcher left the late night series in if I remember right it was either 1999 or 2000 to pursue other things. He mainly tried his hand at sitcoms, I remember he was in a few Fox pilots that never really got picked up which is a shame because he’s always been very funny. Ritcher said later on prior to O’Brien taking over The Tonight Show that he made a mistake and was actually grateful that O’Brien gave him the job when he took over The Tonight Show. I think it speaks volumes how close those guys are because not only did Ritcher make occasional cameos on Late Night after he left including coming back for the tenth anniversary special and in the final weeks of the show but to go back to O’Brien and stay with him even after what NBC did to him.

Myself, I was a big fan of Jay Leno for years but when he did that to O’Brien I lost all respect for the guy and haven’t watched him since. As far as I was concern O’Brien should have taken NBC to the cleaners for what they did, if nothing else to hold them to a higher standard. I still don’t understand the logic behind NBC’s thinking, Leno’s primetime show was getting cancelled, there was no public outcry to get O’Brien out yet they wanted to put Leno’s cancelled show as a lead in? It doesn’t make any sense. What bothered me was Leno went back on his word and as someone who is old school that really bothers me because once you say what Leno had said which was something along the lines of Conan’s going to take over, we’re going to try the primetime deal and if it doesn’t work out we’ve had a hell of a run etc. Once he went back on that statement as far as I’m concern he lost his credibility.

Leno still seems like a nice enough guy but the bottom line is he should have been a man and kept his word to O’Brien. You know NBC was in the wrong when even their own talent, whether it be in their news division or entertainment were defending O’Brien but not sticking up for Leno on the air.

There’s still part of me that wishes that somehow with NBC under new ownership and with Jeff Zucker, the man who caused the situation with O’Brien out that they’ll try to get O’Brien back to take over The Tonight Show again. With the exception of local news, sports, and Law & Order I barely watch NBC. Far as late night, I have gotten into the habit of watching syndicated Friends, The Simpsons and According to Jim episodes on the local CW affiliate here. Back in the day I would either watch David Letterman or Leno but I’d almost always watch O’Brien. Misses those days.. From what I’ve read online and from what a few friends told me The Tonight Show is un-watchable now.

bvd1022 : Yeah, I know Richter was his old sidekick... but I do think that segment was better with random celebrities because it brought variety to it.

As for the NBC debacle, it was named #1 on the top 20 or whatever TV blunders according to the TV Guide Channel. The whole thing was NBC not having any idea what they were doing. They promised Conan the Tonight Show prematurely because they were afraid of him leaving for another network... then they end up firing him anyway. Brilliant, guys.

He's really good at making the most if his situation, though. He uses what happened as another joke. He constantly makes jokes about how he's not getting paid much now and that his new show can't afford anything. He also makes jokes about nobody watching this show since it's on TBS.

Crazy Li : Part of me wishes to prove the point that TBS would put him on Monday Thru Friday at 11:35PM exactly head to head with Leno. I know it’s been a few years and Leno probably thinks no one remembers what happened or at the minimum that the heat is off him. I would love to see O’Brien prove the point of his fan base pretty much being bigger than Leno’s. I still wish he’d reappear on NBC like I said but I’d like to see him prove his point first.

I know he makes light of what happened to him. Quite frankly I don’t know if I would be able to do the same if I were in his shoes. Yes from a financial standpoint he was very well compensated for their idiocy but for me it’s a respect issue.

I’ve been a writer for more than half of my life and being involved in media it can get rough at times. In my case I have been struggling to find steady income for years yet the mere fact of money has not really affected my work ethic and dedication though I will admit, for the time that I put into my work when things are normal it would be nice if I can get to a point where I am making a decent living off of my work where I can support myself and such.

There have been certain people and companies I have done work for over the years though that have promised me pay or just didn’t show appreciation or gratitude for my contributions to their outlet and such and at the end of the day they didn’t really treat me in as professional manner as I treated them and pretty much everyone I’ve ever worked with or for. In circumstances like that if any of them and there are more than a few were to come to me and ask me to return to their outlet I don’t know if I would be as welcoming to that merely because of the lack of respect. For me it’s not so much about money but if you respect me, I’ll respect you and I’ll do everything I can for you from a work/content/publicity standpoint but once I feel disrespected it’s different.

Yes I do.  It is perhaps the only way I watch TV.  I don't watch  TV on the TV.  I can't.   I forget to.  I am only interested in certain shows anyway.

mr.pace : Yeah that is one thing I like about streaming services that I like the fact that you can stick to what you want to watch and don’t have to really sit through stuff you aren’t that interested in. One thing I am looking forward to once I get my Roku player next week is browsing all the streaming services that I don’t currently use. The primary reason I bought it was for 24/7 streams of two networks that televise boxing that I do not currently get on my satellite dish. It will allow me greater reach to cover cards that I want to. The only thing is I can’t really add too many new services right now but in the case of those two networks I need them for work related purposes and from what I understand one of them will only cost me $2 a month so if anything it is a value. The good news is there are two cards on one of the channels next week on back to back nights so I will be covering those cards hopefully. It’s already serving it’s purpose.

Yes, I do. In fact, I do it a lot. Most of the time I don't want to watch television shows on tv because of all the stupid commercials I have to sit through. I'm not a very patient person in certain aspects of my life. So I'll watch them on site like Let Me Watch This, Netflix (this more so than any other site), and HULU. Also, a lot of the time I'll forgot my tv show came on and I'll catch up on the episodes online.

I don't pay for cable at all, and I only watch TV on hulu and netflix.  That being said, I don't pay for either.  You can get a decent enough selection with just those two sites.  And I really don't care about having to wait a week to see shows on hulu.  So what?
