I want to be able to code my own layout. I know some HTML basics, but I'm not sure how it works with Vizzed. If you can give me any useful information I would appreciate it.

I am NOT looking for random coding tips. I want tips that specifically relate to coding a Vizzed Layout. I know basics like using 'a' in brackets for a link or using 'img src' for pictures. I actually don't know how to use a picture that's not online though. If I link it to my own file path, I don't think other people will see it on their computer. I want to make a Vizzed layout and I need starter layout tips so I can practice. I'm also not sure how to set boundaries in order to keep images from spilling out, etc.

I know custom layouts are on a freeze right now. I have personally communicated with JigSaw regarding layouts and I want to practice making them. What I'm most concerned with is fitting it in the window and making the extra colored backgrounds so the text is actually legible (ex. DarkHyren's current layout has that guy with the staff, but it also has a semi-clear black background on top so the text is legible). Other tips are welcome.

The background may change. I was experimenting based on DarkHyren's advice and accidentally found what might be a glitch (or some little thing they overlooked). I'll try to keep it legible. Summon me if I click something wrong and you can't read it.

I already summoned DarkHyren in another thread, so he should be aware of this potential problem soon. I describe it as a problem because Davideo7 and JigSaw have been working for a while on making a regulated system for user layouts.

Yeah, this better fits here.

Well, CSS could help you make a more complex layout. If you want to keep it simple then HTML will do.

As for the background picture, most of the time you could just get a photobucket account.

If you are going to use HTML though you'll need to figure out all the table attributes. If you edit your post you'll see your header and footer. Look at how that code fits together, I was going to post it here but there's no code tags. Also look at the div tag and the attributes for that and the attributes used for the scroll bar. It's a bit more complicated due to all that.

MichaelVash7886 :
Thanks. I'm not actually dead set on HTML instead of CSS. It's just that I only know HTML. I have basics for that from a high school course I took. I've never used CSS, so I don't know any of it, except the bold/italics type stuff that David added in the column next to posting. I see those formatting tags, so I know those.

BNuge : Actually that's not CSS at all. That's BB Code (Bulletin Board I believe) well technically it may be a clone of BB Code as I'm not sure the Acmlm boards originally used it so David may have had to add it manually.

CSS would be something like this:
(using ... instead of > and < as they won't show I believe

...style type="text/css"...
body {
background-color: #d2b48c; margin-left: 20%; < left margin
margin-right: 20%; < right margin
border: 1px dotted gray; < border around the body that is dotted and gray
border: 10px 10px 10px 10px; font-family: sans-serif; < changes the font in the body to Sans-serif font
}
.../style...

For layouts, you should be fine using HTMl, like I say, you'll need to study up on the div and Table tags. Also I'd avoid using tags like ...center... It's old code and now there is a completely new way to do style. HTML you could use:

...DIV ALIGN=CENTER... close with .../div...

Thus

This Text is centered!

Here's a hint that some users over look.
Make sure you check what your layout looks like in multiple browsers.
Some code is IE specific, some is FF based, and some that works in both doesnt look the same in both.
For instance say you want a text box on a very specific part of the layout, like if you make a layout picture that has a spot you want the text to appear over, html will look like it has done the job right, but if you examine it with a different browser you will see it looks wrong.
div works a fair bit better for placing text boxes, though I prefer to use a transparent box with html on a picture instead of relying on a picture with a text space, as you can make it behave a bit better.

MichaelVash7886 : A good way to get code to show up in posts is to use the <z> tag.
So for instance, to show up a simple font size code like this <font size=1> as pure text I used the code <<z>font size=1>

MichaelVash7886 :
Were David's premade layouts made with CSS code or HTML? I tried to use his code from Electric River for the text box. That seems to be causing errors with my HTML code. Any idea why?

EDIT: I figured out most of it. I just need to figure out the HTML version of that faded background that DarkHyren uses between the text and the picture.

EDIT 2: I sorta cheated. I went back to my picture program (Paint.net) and inserted a semi-transparent shape in the area where the text is coded to be in. It works great in IE, and it's acceptable in Chrome. For some reason, my background image doesn't show up at all in Firefox. This is my HTML code for the background image.

Replace the ... with a file path in quotes.
