RPG Maker 95:

RPG Maker 2000/03:

RPG Maker XP:

I came up with this observation: IMO the new XP sprites more resemble the 95 sprites than they do the 2000/03 sprites. I don't know why that is. I also notice the XP sprites have (generally) more detail than do the 2000/03 ones and are less blocky.

Converting sprites from one format to another is challenging but can be done. I have converted a couple sprites from XP to 95, and that is the most difficult conversion of them all. Converting from 2000 to 95 is less challenging but still involves some work. I've never converted from 95 to 2000/03 but have seen it done.

I think converting from 2000 to 95 is most difficult. According to those images, sprites done with RPG Maker XP are way better than the previous 2 engines, seems they've made some progress with teh graphics. Like I've always said, RPG Maker 95 has better graphics than 2000... and 2003 apparently.

I see what you're saying, but for me sprite conversion is harder for XP to 95, believe me. I've only converted 2 XP sprites for this reason . Since XP uses 16 frames, half of them must be removed in order to get the 8 frames used in 95. In 2000/03 there are 12 frames, when I convert I tend to remove the middle frame and then slip the two frames on a 64x128 "sheet" in my image editor. I've converted a few like this.

As for converting sprites from XP to 95, not only do those middle frames have to be converted, but the frames themselves have to be rearranged or they're not going to work properly. It's tedious.

I do agree with you re: the graphics. I do think graphically that XP is a step up from 2000/03, especially 2000. I used XP sprites because I LOVE their detail...Now, if I could only get used to all those commands....

Hmm, the more I hear about RMXP the more I'm tempted to give it a go. Is there a tile/ character making tool like the one available for RM95? That'd make life MUCH easier. Anyhow I've got too many projects going with RM95 right now to consider it in the immediate future

Thanks a lot darkknight.
I am a complete dunce, I already HAD this program on my computer but only used it a couple times to convert PNGs I had done with my own crappy image editor. I never really figured out how to use it.

BTW....how DO you use it? There's no help file with my copy.

Wellllll

I'm not really sure where to start, it's really just the same principles as MS paint but easier as you can select individual tiles/ charas. If you've got a specific query I'd be happy to help or you could try PM ing Dave and see if he can get hold of a help file?!?

Oh and also feel free to call me Dan. I think I'm a bit old to be going by net aliases
