I have to say sixteen. It seems kinda stupid to start dating before then, because all its going to be is the other person coming over to your house, or "mommy I need a ride to see my girlfried/boyfriend" which is kinda odd.

Before anyone is 16 or 17, dating is more of a label for hanging out with someone.

I said 15 to 16 because kids under that age do not know what love feels. Although, kids these days I've been hearing, kids at 13 are dating.

I think that there isn't really a specific age where everyone is ready to date. It depends on one's personal maturity level. Some people might be ready to date at an early age and understand the true weight of a real relationship, even at an age like 12 or 13, yet others might not even be mature enough to handle dating even at a seemingly more mature age like 20 because they still might not understand the importance involved in a relationship. I also think that high school dating, although not as serious as it should be, is important because since it is good practice for when you start dating as an adult so you have a real idea of how to court some one. It's easier to ask people out in high school precisely because its not so serious but in the adult world, I assume for real dating it would be much more difficult especially considering that you're not in an environment where you are forced to be with many people for the whole day. If you want to date someone outside of a schooling environment, it would be best to know what your doing.

I would have to agree with the above poster in that there isn't necessarily a truly specific age. It doesn't really matter, in my eyes, how old you are PROVIDED you have adequate levels of maturity and know what you're getting into it.

I always hated just choosing a number for a general question, like "how old is dating appropriate" or "what is a healthy body weight if I'm X tall?" The fact is, humans are all different on the psychological level and we handle different things differently at certain ages.

I will say this though: If someone starts dating at a "younger" age, then they should have a clear "mentor" to help guide them along and help them get out of trouble if something is going wrong but the person is too infatuated to realize it.

I'll be honest, in my opinion, there is no "age" people should start dating.

Why? Well, who is to say love has an age limit? Me and this girl were dating each other when we were only 5 and 6. We never kissed or anything extraordinary like that. But we did love each other clearly. We took care of each other as much as little children could. That was the first time I loved someone.

Is what we did wrong? I don't believe so.

I'd say 14-15; I had a girlfriend in the 5th grade at 11, but I'd say nothing all that serious until your 15. I'm actually still friends with a girlfriend that I had when we were 15. Yeah so I don't think age is a factor - it's maturity, which you're really not going to start to seriously develop until you're 15 I think.

I'd have to say that 14-15 is reasonable. I dated a 12 year old, who apparently was going out since age 11. Anyways, if you think they're mature enough, and that doesn't come until ages 14-15.

Honestly I believe it is more based on maturity rather than age. Age is but a number, whereas maturity is on a whole new level. You could be 7 and love someone, or you could be 74 before you love someone, it really doesn't matter.

I mean everyone pretty much had a girlfriend at some point when they was 10- 15 but it was not serious, I just think to date means that the two people want to make a physical connection and a mental connection, When your 13 you just think its cool to have a girlfriend/boyfriend
