So ive been on her for a few weeks now, and i gotta express my love for it already.
okay, about myself. hard to say really. i just recently turned 18 and celebrated with a good session of paint ball. im an abnormal girl from New Zealand and grew up in a rural town with my equally abnormal family. being so far away from the city meant that it was rare for me to see 'how the other think' if you will. growing up, i realised, being a girl with Aspergers was...difficult. to put it straight, i was a tomboy, and regularlly played with my brothers, playing cops and robbers, football, and kept my head down drawing pokemon constantly (seriously i was obsessed with pokemon, i even wrote a speech about it for a school essay). i was never particularly girly, i still dont like, or even know how to put on makeup, its just not my thing. then when i was about seven, my grandmum bought us a playstation for christmas, and i was instantly hooked. ten years later and nothing has changed, cept maybe that i now live with 'normal' people in a city, and now have access to an awsome website with very welcoming people. im still an artist at heart, and rarley get caught watching pokemon, or drawing them. i play World of warcraft and still get surprised by people who find it odd that a girl would know so much about dragonball Z and be a girl at the same time.
hope to meet a few people who know whats it like to still be in the 'closet' about my love for gaming.

Hahaha I know what you mean, we're girls on a male universe, it can be though sometimes. When I started to buy my own games the sellers used to give them to me wrapped in gift paper (it's a local custom the stores having free gift paper for the clients) .

And I remember there was a specific store (which became my preferred one later) where the sellers didn't use to give me any attention, except for the owner's son (a 12 years old child - I was 18 years old then). It was a small store, so I had to "fight" with guys much taller and stronger than me to reach the games, sometimes it was simply impossible to get near them. This little nuisance didn't last much though because I'm completely addicted to games and by that time I was working already (unlike many of those guys), so I always spent money there after having a very good chatting w/ the owner's son (which was very good on making me buy more games than I originally intended to). So, after a few time, always I went there the owner yelled at the guys "step back, step back, let the girl choose her games. Come here, honey, don't care w/ those guys" And I never had any trouble to get near the games again

I don't see where the "Girl gamers being rare" myth came from. I know as many girl gamers as guy gamers, almost. Gender doesn't have anything to do with skill; They're better than me at some games, and I'm better than them at others. It's all good fun!

Bowkami : It's a bit surprising to hear about a woman who knows really anything about DBZ. I've never known any who have even watched it. It is is a total guys anime. But, as you said you are a bit of a tomboy, so.... But, to be fair I did watch Sailor Moon when it first aired in the states way back in the day. Almost everyday.

its a bit odd
almost everyone in world of warcraft get the assumption that everyone is male. almost all of my internet friends dont know im even a woman, so i giggle a bit when they call me dude and what not from previous experience, i tend to not reveal my gender to avoid pestering from players with one thing in mind. as well, i get the idea that other gamers wont take me seriously if they think im female.
having said that, more than half of my guild members are women. hell, even the guild master is a lady for which im very thankful.
but times are changing, and us ladies are making our place
