Greatest Westerns Ever

Putting this in general entertainment section. if it needs to be moved please do so.
I was brought up by my grandfather and a big part of my early life was watching westerns, in the later years of my grandfathers life watching a western, with all the great screen heroes was a wonderful time.
so what i wanted to know was, for westerns fans out there was what is in your opinion the best western made and why. please if you could give a reason rather than just naming a title.
i could name a dozen classic westerns made, but i think from me and my grandfathers point of view Red River with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. i think the way the film built to a climax between father and son is a true classic in every sense of the word.
I would be very interested in debating the pros and cons of various films with other western fans.
