Are these the colors used for the game that I should use for the mugs?

While I'm asking, how many colors can be used for a mug? I noticed Cloud's mug uses 6 colors which is more than I thought was supported. Ok I see, the Mug is broken into 4 pieces and each piece has 4 total colors. Am I right?

The NES has a total of 8 working palettes that can be used at a time.
4 are for backgrounds and consist of 1 shared color + 3 variable colors.
The other 4 are for sprites and consist of a shared transparent color + 3 variable colors.
In most games each 8x8 pixel tile can use one of the 4 available palettes for it's type.
Another trick is to layer sprite tiles over background tiles to create the illusion that more colors are being used. This techniques is used very prevalently in the Megaman series.
The palette I posted is the complete palette of colors that the NES is able to output, not the specific palettes used within games.

Here's a site that has all the sprites from the Final Fantasy games for the NES. In case a spriter or background artist doesn't want to start from scratch.

http://spriters-resource.com/nes/F.html

Hope it's helpful.

Zamiel : This doesn't help me, because none of the Final Fantasies have Spell Sprites.

RedMageCole : Then it's a good thing I didn't put it up specifically for your bolt sprite problem.

This is a link to the complete bestiary from FF7, it might help with some of the sprite re-designs.

Also, if anyone has a link to a program to edit sprites on nes roms, i might give it a shot.
