After the innovative gameplay of Legends: Arceus, I've been curious about what other Legends games they could release. I was initially hoping for either a Johto or a Unova game, but then Legends: ZA got announced. Taking place completely in Lumiose City, it was initially worrying because how can they replicate the exploration aspect of Legends: Arceus?

Having now gotten the game and having played it for over 30 hours, I can confidently say it is -in my opinion- the best Pokemon title on the Switch.

I really enjoy the engaging battles, I actually feel like I'm in the anime for the very first time, using protect to BS my way through a hyper beam or calling for the strongest move of all: dodge.

I haven't finished the story yet but I really enjoy most of the main cast. It's an actual sequel to X and Y, so it's nice getting a glimpse at how the Kalos region, or well Lumiose City, evolved after the events of those games.

I've heard grinding for the Shiny Charm is a bit of a pain, and I'm not a fan of the starter mega stones being both locked behind Nintendo Online, as well as being time gated. I really wanted to use Mega Delphox but that stone isn't available for another 2 weeks.

I'll be honest, I've never given a damn about ultra HD graphics, and I would trade good graphics for good gameplay any day of the week. But I suppose that's an area they still seem to struggle with in comparison to other games released around this time.

I think you covered a lot of my thoughts already on different things so I'll try to talk about somethings you didn't already mention

I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea but I really like the Ranked Battles feeling more casual friendly for a change I wouldn't want it to replace VGC or anything but the 4 person free for all with the items you can pick up has been really rewarding to play I faced a trainer in A rank last night who used an all Eeveelution team and was destroying the 3 of us cause they focused on getting items to make up for the lack of mega evos and just timing switches to get the type matchup they needed originally I thought only megas would be viable but after that and some other random mons I've faced I think if you really want to you can make lots of different strategies work.

I have to say I love the soundtrack in this game definitely my favorite since the Ultra games honestly might be a contender for my favorite Pokemon OST.

Also I'm shocked at all the hate I've come across for this game like right now the user score for it on metacritic is 4.6 which I think is completely outrageous I can get thinking the graphics should be better cause I agree but at the end of the day in like 4 hours I had more fun from a gameplay point of view than I ever did with Scarlet and Violet.

I had high expectations for this game with it finally returning us to Kalos and finally having a battle system I've always imagined for the games from growing up with the anime and for me it hit those expectations.

I plan on playing Legends: Z-A eventually, but I didn't pre-order it, and I'm not in a rush to get it right now, especially with work being so hectic. I have a break from work from the middle of December until the beginning of January, so I think then might be a good time for me to get it and start playing.

I actually haven't finished Legends: Arceus. If I recall correctly, I had just made it to the swamp-looking area when I stopped playing. Should I finish Legends: Arceus first? Are the two connected? Or would I be fine to jump straight in to Legends: Z-A?

Legends: Arceus is unrelated to ZA. One takes place like 1000 years in the past and the other takes place after the events of X and Y. As far as I know other than some slight spoilers in a museum about Legends: Arceus, there aren't any references in ZA. Maybe a few regional forms or evolutions you can run in to, but that should be it.
