It's crazy to think that the Nintendo Switch is less than 2 months away from being replaced by its successor. This system is really special I think, not only did it help me through the absolute worst during covid season but it was also the first Nintendo console I got for all of my other family members to enjoy. Something I don't think I'll be lucky enough to get again thanks to the Switch 2s overbearing price tag. This system to me brings families and friends together,.so I kinda wanted to make this thread in that same vain, bring the forum community together. I'm going to list my favorite games for the switch, briefly explain why, and you can do the same thing below. (Don't make them full reviews, the review forum exists lol.) 1. Fire Emblem Three Houses I left a pretty big review on this site explain what I loved about 3 houses, and it's a really great first fire emblem game that does a masterful job at giving you immersion. 2. Mario Party Superstars/Super Mario Party Jamboree. Feels like I'm kinda cheating but both of these games are such good tributes to the old school Mario Party games with the retro boards items and mini games. I only wish they got DLC added for even more classic boards to play on. 3. Animal Crossing New Horizons Now I admittedly didn't get a ton of playtime on this, but I'd be doing this game a mad injustice if I didn't include it because it was such a clutch game during COVID lockdown. This game and a switch lite was an ideal combo pack. 4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe This game is older than GTA V but will also get replaced sooner than GTA V. But regardless it's still Mario Kart and has by far the biggest amount of tracks to race on, smooth online connection, good roster, and it was the first HD Mario Kart. I would say more, but you probably have this in your library. 5. Kirby and the forgotten land. Now I've never touched a mainline Kirby game before, but this game looks fantastic for the switch with the levels feeling pretty in depth and pretty clever boss fights, I also love the idea of being able to upgrade already pre existing Kirby power ups. 6. Mario Brothers Wonder. This game took me by surprise, because with us getting NSMBU Deluxe for the switch, it felt like 2D Mario hit a glass ceiling with no innovation. Lo and behold, this game comes in, you get a new Mario Brothers motif, an elephant power up, new art directoo for the characters that makes NSMBU Deluxe look incredibly dated, wonder flowers being essential and fun gimmicks. It's so good, and I hope the next Mario Maker game incorporates it as a style. 7. Sonic Mania Still the finest 2D sonic game to come out, and it'll be almost a decade old in a couple of years. It's such a great nod to the old school games, and now if you pick it up it can come packed with team sonic racing in a 2 in 1 cartridge as a nice little bonus. 8. Pokemon Sword and Shield. This is the Pokemon game I messed around with for a while, and so I'm pretty fond of it and the continent of Galar. I can overlook the rubbish storytelling as it's just good old traditional pokemon gameplay at its core, you get to do things like camping, using your joycons to play with the various poke toys, and curry cooking which I've gotten some Charizard rank medals on. I really want to come back to this entry some day, I just wish it wasn't so heavily focused on raids as the sole gimmick. It's a very cool concept but wears out it's welcome after about 500 hours which is the time I got locked in. And I think that will do it for my list, I know I'm missing some obvious ones like the Zelda entries but I plan to do my vanilia playthrough of them when I get them enhanced on the switch 2. What's your favorite switch games? List them below. My top three would be Fire Emblem Three Houses, Disgaea 7, and The Hundred Line. All three are tactical RPG'S and happen to also be my top Three tactical RPG'S of all time. I love everything about Fire Emblem from The story and characters to the gameplay. For Disgaea, it's more the characters and humor that I like than anything else. For The Hundred Line, it's mostly just the story that I really like. |

It's the two Legend of Zelda games (Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom) at the top for me, and then a loooong gap before anything else. Honestly, I don't even know what I would put third. There weren't many Switch games that I was overly impressed with. Probably Super Mario Odyssey, that game is solid. |

There are so many excellent Switch Games I've thoroughly enjoyed, but here are a few that really stood out to me (I notice we have quite a bit of overlap in our favorites, lol). Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom My experience playing Breath of the Wild was nothing short of magical. I clocked in over 230 hours into this game and even collected all 900 Korok seeds—far beyond what's necessary to fully expand your inventory—just so I could see the full 100% completion rate on the bottom right corner of the world map. I also thoroughly enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom and everything it did to expand on BOTW's already incredible foundation. While I wasn't the biggest fan of some of the new abilities, like Ascend and Ultrahand, my opinion changed and softened a bit over time. While convenient, I initially found Ascend to be a little bit lazy, just allowing you to swim through miles of mountains, cave ceilings, and any other structure you don't feel like climbing. After putting almost 200 hours into the game, I've come around on it for its convenience. More than anything, I found Ultrahand and the Zonai devices to be pretty overpowered once you have enough materials and an upgraded battery. I guess it's nice to have more options to approach overworld puzzles and combat, but creating a hoverbike that can fly over all of Hyrule or a flamethrower tank that destroys enemies for you isn't my preferred way of playing the game, lol. As far as building stuff with Zonai parts goes, I used them sparingly—pretty much only building the bare minimum necessary to solve whatever problems I faced, lol. Again though, options are nice to have and I appreciate all the fun and creativity more imaginative people bring to the table with Zonai creations. Fire Emblem Three Houses Like you, I also really love Fire Emblem Three Houses. I didn't get into Fire Emblem until the 3DS era of games (Awakening, Fates, Echoes), and even though I enjoyed all of them, Three Houses is in my opinion, one of the best entries in the series. It just does so many things right—multiple story paths (each with their own unique experience and ending), over 30 characters you can recruit into your house (one of my favorite aspects of the game), teaching and bonding with your students, and more. This is all in addition to Fire Emblem's enjoyable tactical combat. After Smash Ultimate and Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem Three Houses is my 3rd most played Switch game, at just over 700 hours, which brings me to my next title... Super Smash Bros Ultimate Sitting at 1,200 hours total, SSBU takes the cake for my most played Switch game. While it's almost exclusively a game I play with my younger brother, SSBU has provided us with hours of fun and buffoonery. Whenever we can't find something to do or play together, SSBU has come to the rescue countless times. Mario Party Superstars and Mario Party Jamboree Both of these Mario Party entries are an excellent return to form for the series. While I also enjoy Super Mario Party (mainly for the Partner Party Mode), I found the game's 4 simple boards and item selection very underwhelming. I don't know if modern Mario Party games will ever receive DLC, but I definitely think another board or two would've been welcome for all the Switch entries (especially Super Mario Party). Animal Crossing New Horizons Like many people, a good chunk of my 2020 was spent quarantined at home, and boy did ACNH help pass the time! I didn't actually pick ACNH up until a few months after it released because I'd never played Animal Crossing before, so it wasn't really on my radar. But once a group of my friends on Discord started playing and visiting each other's islands suggested I give the game I try and immediately got hooked. I can recall many nights of staying up until 5AM landscaping, collecting DIY recipes, and using Nook Mile Tickets to fly from island to island in search of the perfect villager. I haven't played it much in recent years, but ACNH stands out as a very special, memorable experience during such an uncertain time. I think that's about it for my list. There are several other games I've sunk 100-200 hours in, but I think I have a pretty solid selection of games here already, lol. My top three would be Fire Emblem Three Houses, Disgaea 7, and The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-. Entering 2021, I hated tactical RPG's but then when I tried Three Houses, I loved everything about it, especially the characters and music. For Disgaea 7, it was more of the same but the humor was fantastic and for Hundred Line, the story was insane. Still not a big fan of tactical ones but each game had an aspect or two that I loved so much. I also have a soft spot for Stardew Valley because the game went well above and beyond what farm sim games do without complicating things. |
