What's a game mechanic that you want to see more often? I'm tired of wild encounters in games whether it's Pokemon in grass or some other RPG's. But I love when you see the enemies on the map that you can battle. I first saw this in Guardians Crusade and then again in Let's Go Eevee and a few other games. I think it's way better to be able to see where the encounters are and gives you the opportunity to avoid some.
What are some that you think should be in more games?

This will probably never happen or at least not for many years since Warner Bros. patented it but I really liked the nemesis system from the Shadow of Mordor games. It had so much more potential I think and it's really a shame we won't be able to see anyone else getting to improve upon it. Just another thing that makes me hate Warner Bros.

I love in xenoblade picking up an item and getting a vision of needing it for a quest in the future I think it's a really cool use of seeing the future and Id love to see it again.

Obviously not everything is applicable to every game. I feel like there's some that are very genre dependent.

A big one for me is creative puzzle solutions/applications.

Too often in video games I get to a part where they make me do some sort of puzzle, and often it feels very linear to solve. Like they included it just for the sake of having a puzzle. Often the solution is basically just trial and error turning on some switches until you get through it.

I love when games present you with a problem and you have multiple ways of trying to tackle it. Maybe you can brute force it, maybe you can make use of an item found elsewhere in a level or area or shop to help solve it, maybe you can pay an NPC for help, maybe you can get different rewards depending on where/how/how fast you solve it. I can't remember what game it was but as a kid I once encountered a puzzle that I couldn't grasp, and when I turned my game upside down after over an hour of pondering the shape of it would give a clue about its solution. I remember leaving that level or area feeling like a genius for solving it, that's the type of feeling I lack with a lot of puzzles in modern games

tbh the mechanic i wanna see more is like the nemesis system from shadow of mordor. those orcs straight up remembered me and would trash talk me after i beat em or they got away, it was wild. not many games have done that since an it's such a cool idea. co-op puzzle stuff like portal 2 would also be awesome, i miss sitting on the couch solving weird puzzles with a friend. and yeah, dynamic weather/day night that actually matters is super cool too. devs need to stop playin safe and get creative again.

I want more games that have the Kingdom Hearts combat I've never played a game that feels like Kingdom Hearts that isn't a Kingdom Hearts game and I really love the combat in the series.

I really like when games have a button during cutscenes that allow you view current relevant lore to the cutscene. Whether it's something simple as a glossary button for highlighted terms (fortunately I am starting to see this more and more in games I play), or an entire extra menu that lets you view entire pages of lore in order to make sure you're caught up to the story and don't feel like you're behind if you don't understand a cutscene upon first reading a sentence.

Final Fantasy XVI has a *fantastic* menu called "Active Time Lore" that does exactly this - if a faction / state / enemy is relevant to the current cutscene you're watching, you can pause the cutscene at any time and view the history, meaning, etc. of that object, just in case they're talking about something that you may have forgotten a detail or two about. It MASSIVELY helps that game as I'd say it's hard to keep track of names for the first third of the game, but using that menu will keep you fully caught up.

I like games where decisions matter. You make a decision in the first quarter of the game and it affects you later on. I like games where there are multiple paths to the end of the game depending on how you play. And you could gain or lose things on the way to that end.

I do feel like this type of game is really complicated to make and the adding complexity is not something a lot of people want. I do like games being replayable based on how you choose to play. Focusing on being good or evil, focusing on certain skills or spells and what not. I get that those aren't exactly the same thing but I do like being able to replay a game and make different choices either in the group I'm taking or the quests I complete and what not that change how the game plays through. I just wish it was done more and done with more complexity.
