Before I begin I would like to apologize to the estate of Sherwood Schwartz and George Wyle for what I am about to do *Clears throat*

Gameplay and Story: *to the tune of the Gilligan’s Island theme* Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, that started up from the Hawaiian mainland, Captain Clark is a mighty sailin’ man, we don’t know their skipper, 5 passengers set sail that day on a three plus hour tour, a three plus hour tour, the waves then started getting rough the tiny ship was tossed, if not for the courage of the Cluefinders the Labyrinth would be lost, the Labyrinth would be lost. The Ship’s aground on the shore abyss, on an uncharted isle, the captain (missing) as well as the crew (missing as well), The Brainiac, the surfer dude, The Tech wiz, The Fearless Leader, and Laptrap too, here on the Cluefinders isle!

I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but do a parody of the Gilligan’s Island theme, because I did it when I did a commentary for the game more than a year ago (and don’t at me about the Professor there was a professor in the last game, yeah technically Leslie would count but well I’ll explain in a sec) so after we sign in the game begins with Joni and Santiago unconscious on a deserted island and not only is there a volcano on the island ready to erupt, but Owen and Leslie are missing and as I described in the parody so is the captain and the crew, the good news is they are able to reach Owen and Leslie on the video phone and they find an artifact that fell off of a wall of artifacts (they were collecting them during the intro of the game) which we later learn are cryptiles, and we eventually find out that we actually need these to proceed in certain parts of the game, and well needless to say this island makes the Island from lost look like Gilligan’s Island….and boy are they going to wish they were on it (that reminds me how big of a movie star is Ginger anyway? In this day and age, the coast guard and the Navy Seals would have been searching like crazy for everyone they definitely would have noticed if Ginger was missing....or the Millionaire and his wife)

Graphics: So the first thing you will notice in the game if you didn’t notice the box art beforehand is.... everyone got a slight makeover; however, Joni got the one that was most noticeable, like she has lips now.... why? I get that around this period Mattel was trying to buy The Learning Company and all but...were the Learning Company hoping to launch a doll line for the Cluefinders had this gone through successfully? (Well by the time this game and 6th grade adventures came out they had been involved with Riverdeep and ADAPT so the previous entries got rereleased with the cluefinders new designs. Also when I played the game for the first time on a Windows 95 computer back in 2001 the graphics in the Cut Scenes were weird like there was some trailing going on and it kind of ruined the experience for me, thankfully the next time I played it we had a windows XP in the house, however I did notice that background graphics are improved as well like underwater in the opening intro everything makes the graphics of it stand out. And although they have changed some looks they opted to keep Owen and Leslie’s old design in regards to the Video Phone scenes when we ask for help (but not in the cutscenes) also in that scene when we are dealing with the geography puzzle that was semi-reused from 4th grade adventures, they used Joni and Santiago’s old designs because I guess they were lazy heck in the underwater area I’ll bet they saved time and money considering they didn’t really need mouth animations, however the phone was changed up too it kind of has a speaker (Santiago practically invented face time)

Addictive: Well I was able to play it until I finished it

Soundtrack: The background music fits theming especially when we are in the underwater area of the game, but they don’t adjust the soundtrack for a tropical theme no sir, this isn’t the Reader Rabbit Math 6-9 game, the Cluefinders are in dire straits here, and even if they could have gotten the Labryinth sailing again, they wouldn’t have left without Owen and Leslie.

Depth: When I first played this game back in 2001 it took me days to complete not just because of the performance issues but it’s also because I had the original version of Cluefinders Math with me at the time (the latter of which I never could finish until the next time I took it out I got up to the cutscene with the apprentice then I had to return the game to the library) Once I mastered this it took me ninety minutes to finish. Also there weren’t a lot of activities in this game, there were two bridge crossing puzzles, one for each area we had to go to (oh and also to point out there reused animation from 3rd grade adventures) and two activities in each area plus the cryptile insert puzzle, Fish within the fish and faces within the face, oh right there’s a third area, also with a bridge puzzle however there is only one other activity

Difficulty: Man I had no patience with the cryptile insert puzzles when I did them because once we had to do the third gate in each area we have to guess the rule, after that I just played it at level 1, I don’t think I had issues anywhere else in the game

Post Review Follow up: I really hate that this is the last Cluefinders review I can do, I really wish they would make a comeback even though Physical media isn’t a thing anymore, maybe I will do a quasi review of the game if I talk about the Cluefinders franchise as a whole under game franchises, maybe next tour, hell I wish they could have at least gotten a reference on Netflix Carmen

This concludes my review join me tomorrow when....well I don't have a concrete schedule because I don't have alot left to review, and now I have to figure out which game to pelt with screenshots (I guess I'm doing Road Adventures USA....tomorrow)
