I began development of a new post editor recently and I'm just about finished with it. I hope for this to become the default post editor once I get everything fixed.

Features
  • WYSIWYG editor (aka Rich Text Editor)
  • Toolbar full of options, which include:
  • Headings for larger or smaller text
  • Bolds, Italic, Underline and Strikethrough
  • Quoting and Code Block
  • Bullet List and Numbered Bullet List (which supports sub lists)
  • Increase and decrease indentation (use with bullet list for sub lists)
  • Font color and font background color
  • Text Alignment (left, center, right)
  • Link and image attachments
  • Pasted content will usually maintain its formatting
  • Image Uploading and Pasting

My next post will demonstrate all of the different text options available in action.

Image Uploading and Pasting
This is the highlight of this new editor in my opinion. You can add images to your post by clicking the image icon from the toolbar and it'll automatically upload it for you and automatically charge you the Viz. All attached images become clickable images that open up the full size in a separate window.

The best thing about it is the fact that you can paste images from your clipboard. So for example, you can use the Windows Snipping Tool (Windows logo key Shift S) and then paste the image directly into your post.

It's 1 Viz per 10 KB. So if you upload 100 KB worth of images in a post, it'll be just 10 Viz.

Known issues
  • Summoning doesn't work yet
  • Doesn't currently support auto saving

Try it out
You can try it out by selecting Rich Text from the Post Editor drop down
1683755536.png

Be sure to report any issues found to this thread.

FYI: This post was made using the new editor.

Woah, the change is indeed big. It kind of breaks the flow of the site to me with its dark theme, but the toolbar has been greatly expanded and that is very welcome.

The fact we don't have to entirely rely on HTML tags for things like font color and highlighting is very welcome. It was a pain in the ass to write that down every single time, even more in lengthy posts like game guides or such. Everything will be much easier, smoother and time-saving with this new editor now.

The image uploading is incredibly welcome. In a sense it can kill the Photo Album a bit, but I'm sure it's going to be a very useful feature if the images now become clickable and open in full size too.

I'm not sure what the code box icon is for, maybe I'm too basic on this matter xD. And the icon next to the image looks like hyperlink to me but clicking it delivers no result whatsoever, so I have to ask how are we going to use it? (and for what, just in case I'm wrong)

Another question: will older posts be able to be migrated to this new editor? I'd like my guides to have the clickable image feature, and I don't mind doing it manually if needed be.

So rich and dark.

So much easier than the old one. Gives a bit more personalization for someone who never cared about html and links.

oooh the photo uploads are a great addition. Can’t wait to abuse… I mean do guides with screenshots and all.

becerra95 : let’s see if it’ll summon.

The new post editor is finished and has been made the default post editor. All known issues have been fixed (summoning, session auto saving, etc), but if you notice anything wrong with it, let me know.

Also worth pointing out is that the new post editor doesn't add tons of garbage code to the database. Previous rich text post editors that I attempted to create were using scripts that added tons of unnecessary HTML to posts, and I just didn't like it. I've created this one to only store HTML tags that are necessary (for example, it doesn't place div or p tags around each paragraph, it doesn't add br tags, etc). The old rich text post editor also allowed users to change font size and font family, which was often abused and the inconsistency made a lot of posts look messy.

becerra95 : I love using HTML, but it's just easier to make a post look nice if you can see the formatting as your typing the post. I make a lot of emails and work instructions at my job, and I was starting to feel handicapped on Vizzed with the inability to do the same things, like formatting and the pasting of images.

EX Palen : What theme are you using? Because for me, it matches the site theme.

Code box is for pasting in code. It's kind of a standard on the internet to have code in code boxes like that. It's also using monospace, which most code editors use.

All old posts should be automatically migrated.

Davideo7: I'm noticing the colors have been adjusted for this editor. The box is now semi-transparent (or at least attempts to match the background color while keeping its dark theme) and the toolbar now has brighter colors when hovering over it, so it's much better now.

Still not sure I'll have any use for code boxes, but if it's something standard to have then I welcome it. And glad to hear posts will be automatically migrated, I'll check my guides whenever I can to see the changes and if everything does indeed work as intended.

It has come to my attention that this new editor is apparently bugging some HTML5 tags we used to introduce in our posts. Some of them have become useless due to being integrated in the editor itself, but others aren't and they provide good tools for certain purposes.

The first such tag we've seen as faulty is the combination to introduce anchor links. They don't work anymore, the links redirect to the homepage instead to our intended destination.

I'm aware that HTML5 tags become obsolete over time as new ones appear to override them or ease up the process, so if it's the tag that is faulty and not the site messing with it that'd be helpful too. And should this be the case, I'll test all tools I had listed as useful to see which of them still work.

EX Palen: I'm assuming you were talking about the issue with a tags. This issue has now been fixed. Let me know if that's what you were talking about.

Are there other HTML tags that no longer work?

An issue that I'm currently working on fixing is post summoning. Now it works if the summon isn't in the first line of the post. It's a weird issue and I haven't been able to figure out why it's happening.
