In a time where Dragon Ball news were probably at the lowest they've been in the last years, we got an unexpected surprise in the form of the latest videogame of the long-running franchise.
After more than a decade cherishing Budokai Tenkaichi 3, relying on fan-made games wanting to be the sequel and the never-ending hopes of seeing a return of the franchise (though Raging Blast did more than a decent job at trying to fit in its shoes as a worthy successor), we now have the official confirmation that the franchise will see a new entry.
The information right now is very scarce, with just the announcement and a very short trailer being shown. However, it has set the hype on fire for the fans who were eagerly waiting for this since the seventh generation of consoles appeared. But the world has changed a lot since then, the industry is not the same as before and thus we might get a very different game than we could expect.
It does look like the developers want to keep the spirit of the franchise alive, seeing how they included footage from previous entries in the trailer. It also seems like the game mechanics will be kept mostly intact, if anything updated to the modern times and maybe including things from other games like Raging Blast. And we can also expect very detailed stages, which will surely be given a boost with all the destruction animations the franchise had back in time.
The downfall will for sure be the roster. Equaling the 180 characters of BT3 isn't hard, given all the new additions in the anime, movies and also in Heroes, but the big question is how many of those characters will be available in the base game, either from the start or by unlocking them in-game. DLCs will surely come, and given what Namco has done to other franchises like Tekken or SoulCalibur it's to be expected we will get additional characters that could have been perfectly included since day 1 as paid DLCs.
Despite this drawback, and surely more that can potentially come, I think we will get a decent game for a much anticipated concept. We'll see for which consoles does it come out, I don't discard PS4 because of it not being one of the true powerhouses of Namco but we'll see what ends up happening. More information will come in time, and hopefully we will see this game hit the shelves before the year ends.
How is everybody feeling about this? Feel free to share your thoughts, impressions, fears or whatever about this game here.
