What's something that instantly makes you go nope on a game or maybe something that instantly makes your mood sour when playing a game?

I have several things I hate in games some as petty as just pre-rendered backgrounds being confusing to me which instantly makes me not enjoy a game cause I don't understand where I'm meant to go. (this applies mostly to FF7 since I just picked it up for a few minutes before remembering how much this bothered me.)

There are 2 genres that I just dislike one being MMOs as I find the way they are designed to be very annoying and find it to be largely a waste of time when I can sit there and instantly think of at least one better way for MMOs to present something but they likely all do it the same way so that you spend more time playing the game if I had to guess. The other genre I just won't do is Horror you can call me a coward or whatever but I find horror games are far too reliant on jump scares more than anything else which isn't fun to me I don't like feeling my heart beating out of my chest as that stresses me out and I just don't get enjoyment from that.

Something else I'll never understand in games is when one tries to make a desert sound like some appealing place to explore I recall recently during the game awards a few months back a trailer hyping up an MMO for its desert and I just sat there mad like bruh how are you going to try and sell me on an MMO with a desert when 99% of the time the desert in a game is the worst part at least for me there's a handful of deserts I enjoy in games where normally I just find it to be a boring location.

Something that will sometimes discourage me from trying a game is if I hear that level grinding is something you have to do as I just don't have patience for it unless I really enjoy a game and more often then not if it's early in a game I won't have the will to power through some level grinding to keep playing something.

Broken mechanics that gives an unfair advantage. Worst thing about it, especially when they’re terrible. This is obviously a fifa thing but can be used for other games too. I would say pay to win buttttt, I spent like $3000 on fifa the last two years so I can’t say nothing about that. Difference is I’m good at the game with standard players but the curve this year makes it impossible to get the most enjoyment against other players, resorting to again, broken mechanics. I don’t find exploits to play maliciously of course, it’s a game of skill but EA being EA they don’t care.

There’s many more reasons for a game to turn my mood sour but this is number one

I actually really despise games where you win in the gameplay and then lose in the cutscene after the fight. A few games do it right, where it'll only have you attack down to somewhere around 30% of the health bar, and then the cutscene continues. To me that makes a lot more sense than completing a boss fight only to lose in the story anyway. It's rather picky but it bothers me a lot every time lol.

I absolutely hate dealing with unfair bosses.

One game in particular reminded me of that. Middle Earth: Shadow of War. I was so hyped to fight a warlord, and cave his damn skull in. Nope, devs decided he should have a crossbow that does insane damage (almost one shot) and legitimately aimbots you as well. I tried to dodge his shots but he was like nah fam.

I haven't touched the game since lmao, im still salty about it.

For me its when you feel like you are fighting against the game controllers. To me that makes the game difficult for the wrong reason. I like games that are difficult, but doable. These games test your skills. However, when you are fighting the controls it seems like it can make the characters in the game speed up, slow down, jump long/short, and have strange hit boxes. It really causes havoc when you have to fight against the controls.

Sometimes Glitches can be a nuisance. Especially when they are unpredictable. For example. In Yoshii's Island (Which I love) in one level you are supposed to jump on the falling rock then jump up to get the last flower and remaining red coins. Once in a while you jump on the rock but you fall through the rock and the rock pulls you into the water causing you to lose a life. 99% of the time it does not do it in the game. But its that unpredictable that you do not know when it is going to occur. I have found no way to prepare for it. In the remakes the glitch was fixed.

Another Glitch occurs in Mega Man Legends during the Naval Battle. This Glitch is very rare but I have had it happen a few times. You are supposed to shoot the attack planes down. Normally the plans crash into the water. But there is a Glitch were if you shoot one of the planes down it lands in the water but it registers that it crashed into the boat. This can cause the mission to fail due to your boat sinking. I do not know to this day what triggers that.

As of late, input reading. Started playing mortal kombat 2 and thought it would be easy, I thought wrong. After the first three stages I realized how cheap the AI is and I really can’t do much about it with it countering every move that I make and jeez, I really don’t want to resort to cheap tactics. I’ve watched a few videos seeing how people beat the game and my goodness, it’s not even about skill at all. It kinda annoys me how many continues I have to put down that if this was an arcade machine I would be broke inserting quarter after quarter… I know mortal kombat 3 had this issue but mortal kombat 2? Nah this is something I instantly hated the second MK2 showed its true colors.

There isn't a lot that I really hate, a few of the minor things are fixed camera angles and games that have lots of full voice acting but will have some moments with just silence or grunts.

Another thing i really hate is when games have an insane difficulty spikes. Whether that be a boss that has an insane level advantage over you, or just games overall require a lot from you in general. It causes a lot of games to become grindy. I don't like to be forced to do extremely tedious task to gain levels or collect whats required for me to make progress. It honestly kills the pacing for me and causes me to just drop the game until i feel like actually making the effort to continue on.

When they kill the Main Character, they did that in FFVIICCR, they killed Zack! Like why? At least he's alive in a different timeline, right?

  1. In-game purchases and microtransactions. I just want to buy a whole game and play it.
  2. Tasks or quests that are only designed to be tedious and repetitive without being interesting. Like if someone is like "I lost all my potatoes, help me pick them up" and you have to spend 15 minutes just putting the potatoes back in the cart. It's not challenging or interesting, it's just tedious. Think of something better.

Light Knight : In-game transactions on paid games is absolutely atrocious. Way to many games do this nowadays, and lock way too much stuff behind paywalls. Now you do have the option to use in-game currency to get said stuff on some games but they usually make extremely tedious to obtain enough of the in-game currency in a reasonable amount of time. Its done on purpose to get people a pay them actually money to unlock stuff faster because they know we don't the time. Sports games are the biggest offenders when it comes to that practice.
