Ew, hard pass on that ban since I can't imagine walking around without some kind of sock. When it's cold, I like to wear thick, cozy socks and when it's warm, I prefer something thinner and more breathable. Honestly, outside of stepping out from the shower, I don't think I've walked around barefoot for hours at a time since I was a little kid. I dunno, I like having a barrier between my feet and whatever unknown grossness resides in the carpet at all times. Also, for whatever reason, I can't sleep without socks on, it just doesn't feel right to me.
