This is a bit of a topic coming from a place of being terrible at going to bed myself, but recently I've found myself having trouble sleeping and I often stay up well before 12 AM and even seep into 4-5 AM before I knock myself out in an attempt to get some rest. I'm wanting to start to further better my sleep and in order to do this I need some advice from you all.

A few things of note, around sometime a year and a half ago I got myself a new mattress in hopes that this would improve my sleep and thankfully it did. It's a nice sort of memory foam mattress I basically had to air up myself and once it was finished it was so much better then the spring loaded one I was dealing with for years and all. I had been using the same Mattress as well for like 10+ years so at that point I really needed something new and luckily I got the chance.

Next up, I'm sort of looking into getting some Pillows. The ones I usually got were Serta branded but after getting horrible sleep with them one too many times I kinda searched up about them and they seemed to be pretty disliked among people even though they're pretty popular and all. It's been really getting bad to the point where even if I get to bed at a reasonable time like 10 or 11, I get back up at 2-3 AM in the morning and cannot sleep period. I'm looking to change that.

I got some older pillows of mine and thankfully they're a bit better then the Serta I have, but I'm wanting to get a completely new pillow that's helpful with sleep. I've heard a lot of good things recently about Coop and that's the main thing I'm going to be looking to buy when I have the cash. At the moment I'm a bit tapped out so hopefully I can get one soon, but if there are any other recommendations with this please let me know.

Finally, I've been fixing my Caffeine intake. I typically don't drink Caffeinated Beverages and usually opting to stick with Cream Sodas but sometimes I'd head to my Local Gas Station and grab like a 48 oz of Dr Pepper and a few Energy Drinks and chug them for my work. I'm going to be trying to stop that at least at night.

Now with all that said, is there any other things I could do to help better my sleep? Any of your all's own stories that you have to give? I'd appreciate hearing about them to help better my own sleep cycle and eventually break from the countless nights of insomnia I've been dealing with recently. It's been kind of something I've wanted to get better at all year and I feel like this might be the best chance for me now if I have any.

It's usually pretty bad in the summer time mostly because it's too hot for me to have covers on me, I do have a fan in my room but if it's set at a certain setting then it makes annoying noises which doesn't make it better

There's more usually Baseball games run after Ten pm the default radio station in my room has the rights to Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball so during the week the games start at 7 pm (on sundays it usually start at 1) it also depends on where they are in the American Association of Baseball, I used to have some kind of habit of trying to stay up just so I can hear the intro to a radio program I like (the one after Jack Benny Night elevator Club maybe I'll add that to somewhere in the music thread one of these days)

so the Summer TdV isn't completely to blame

classgame : Noise usually isn't much an issue as I'm more or less listening to music through the night which helps my nerves and de-stress after a long night. Sometimes there's police or ambulance sirens that go wailing off but that's about the majority of it.

Summer hasn't been much an issue for me thankfully as of recently when I got my AC last year. It's pretty noiseless so It's not much an issue to keep it on during hotter nights.

Actually it's not that that's the biggest problem, you should hear my dad snore (it's more of a problem if we're on vacation)

Slyshiyoshi : I used to have an absolutely awful sleep cycle, but I've been trying to improve it. I now try and sleep at 10 PM, and wake at 6 AM. Best advice I can give is to set an alarm at 6 AM, stay tired all day, and then sleep at 10 PM. It will not be too easy, but it's not impossible, and once you get it done, all you have to do is maintain it. Also, I haven't drank any major amounts of Caffeine in years.

classgame : Hahahah! That brings back memories when my father was around. I remember when the whole family slept together in bed, I'd wanna shake my father a bit so he'd stop snoring. I even remember I could perfectly imitate snoring, it was very funny.

MrKokoPudgeFudge : Thankfully I already gotten a pretty good sleep before hand and now I'm just waiting for it to hit that time. I was getting good sleep until my pillow started to become an issue for me and I didn't realize until it was too late. Hopefully once I get a new Pillow I'll have an easier time with this and all.

classgame : Ironically, my mom's boyfriend snores Terribly and I remember back in the Summer when we all went on Vacation that his Snoring (And the fact I slept on a Couch since there was only one bed.) Was what kept me up on night. It was actually the worst and I had resorted to watching TV late at night just to push myself into a comatose sleep. Sad to say, it didn't work. I just watched American Dad for like 4 hours lmao

MrKokoPudgeFudge : Oh boy I get to explain my Dads to you haha

So technically I have two Dad's and they both married to my mom at completely different times, my Blood related dad who left our family when I was 3 who moved to Louisiana and Got married to a person who seems way too good for him.

The other is my Dad who married my mom back in 2010 and was relatively fine until his Dad died, then he started acting up and one day he just decided he didn't want to be apart of the family anymore. I assume he left back to his home in St. Louis but I literally do not even know.

My mom's current boyfriend and her have been dating for like 2+ years at this point and the guy's really kind and sweet, I'm pretty happy for her.

I struggle a LOT with sleeping these days. And I mean a LOT a lot, mainly because I've been suffering from an EXTREMELY painful back injury for almost two years now. Everything is painful, even lying down, and as such I'll stay awake for hours - it's not uncommon for the sun to come up before I get to sleep. I actually struggle to get up at freakin' NOON. Pre-back-injury me would laugh at that.

I struggle an awful lot, and it all comes from the fact I've always felt more active during the night so it's when I try to do the most things.

Changing that is getting me nowhere, and while I'm trying to go to sleep much earlier than before, I still stay awake perfectly until 1 AM without trouble. And waking up early is much more difficult, it's very hard for me to get out of bed in the morning and overall I spend the majority of the day wanting to sleep.

All of this could change soon, because this could be caused by the stress of the upcoming exams. We'll see if there's any change indeed starting next week and I can get back to relatively decent hours as I did in 2022.

LieselSolo : Ah dude, back pain always sucks. I used to have a lot of it myself from when I still had the spring mattress back in the day which I thankfully got rid of. I had a moment a few weeks ago where I started to develop some back pain myself though more so from my acute bronchitis making me cough too much to a point where I barely could even move and it was awful. I really am sorry you got to go through this.
