When you were in grade school (college does not count), normally they block anything cool over there. However, in my case, when I went to high school... my school allowed pretty much anything for one year until they caught onto my shenanigans (tf2, Minecraft, etc.) nowadays they blocked most cool things, and the only source of entertainment over there is either discord or unblocked sites. Has anyone ever gotten away with installing steam on a high school computer before? Also, is discord blocked at your high school (if you were in high school in 2016 through 2022 or still going)?

In my experience, I usually always used a proxy to bypass any firewall restrictions.

Randy53215 : I don't think we had the ability to proxy from school, probably because newer Windows would have the option to ban students from doing it or something. At the time I was still in high school, discord was not blocked, probably blocked now.

https://www.wikihow.com/Access-Blocked-Websites

One of the above options would suffice. Probably the https://www.proxfree.com/ one more than anything in a school environment with Group Policies through the school district likely restricting most of the ones on the list.

Hope that helps.

Well I am way past high school. I was in high school from 2001-2004. As you can imagine the internet which came out in 1988/1989 for the public was not that old.

When I was in high school my school blocked online games. I did not do this, so it was not me. But in the library when students were supposed to be working on their assignments. They would get on the computer and play online games such as mindsweeper, solitare (card game), Aperion (game similar to centipede), and other games. So yeah, the school blocked those games because so many students were playing them.

Another site that was blocked was Napster. Napster used to be a site that you could download songs to your walkman or burn them to a CD. A lot of students were doing that.

tornadocam : I'm past high school but not by far... 2015 to 2019, however it is interesting to know that online games were first discovered eventually when your classmates were playing video games on PCs...

I introduced my friends to the wonderful world of virtual private networks when I was in high school. (This was before NordVPN sponsored literally every YouTube channel, so only nerds like myself were aware of their existence.) Nearly everything of value was blocked on the school Wi-Fi (which we weren't even supposed to have the password to, by the way) but I taught everyone how to bypass that by installing a VPN app. For them, it meant watching YouTube or checking Instagram while at school. For me, it meant posting on Vizzed.

But, to answer your question, yes, everything was blocked. I assume Discord was also blocked, but I wouldn't really know, as Discord was not very popular at the time.

Internet blocking started in my schools around the time I was in the 8th grade. It taught me very quickly to use proxies and other means to get around them, so I'll always be thankful.

There was plenty of time to be on Vizzed! Haha
