Nuzlockes can be a bit frustrating but entirely refreshing way to play Pokémon. From basic Nuzlocke rules to Randomized style runs they all need a bit of strategy to win with what you got.

Personally, I am attempting a Basic randomized run of Emerald. Random Starters, Random Encounters, Random Trainers, Random Evolutions, and Random Items on the ground. I never know what I am going to get or what I am facing so it is always surprising to me when I either get something really "weak" or a legendary out of nowhere.
I will say though I have never attempted a normal Nuzlocke and have yet to complete one of the Random ones I have half my runs are enjoyable and fun.

I am mainly asking how do you like to do Nuzlocke runs? If you have never done one why not?

pokemon x : So I play a lot of pokemon with Furret and SonicOlmstead and honestly playing with them has made me think of pokemon much more in-depth and strategically. I've finally started team building correctly and honestly the difficulty is so different, especially when it comes to nuzlocking.

Furret and I are actually doing a HgSs nuzlocke right now and it's god-awful to where Silver killed 3 of my mons in Azalea town. We're doing a lil-league run, where you can't evolve any pokemon, there's a level cap for each route and gym, if a mon faints it's gone, catch the first pokemon you see in each route only. And Chikorita has to be your starter.

It's been a rough time but I think it's the most fun I've had playing pokemon in a while because it's helping me just be more creative, especially with my team of three pidgeys (may they now rest in peace.)

I've had done 6 nuzlockes if I remember correctly 3 of which were with Furret so I shall tell my war stories in order.

My first nuzlocke was Pokemon Ultra Moon where I lost on the 2nd island to the water trial which was very hard to accept losing so early on in the game where I decided I wasn't ready for the time being to do nuzlockes

So in-between the time of my 1st and 2nd nuzlocke I started playing pixelmon with Furret on a Minecraft server where I faced many gym leaders on the server and encountered many different strategies and opponents which lead to me viewing battles differently I eventually became champion a few times on said server and beat mt battle after my time on there I was ready to try doing a nuzlocke again. The next nuzlocke I did was Pokemon Emerald with Furret where we did lose in theory cause we blacked out to the 8th gym where we stupidly thought we were prepared and we were not but we got mons out of the box and barely managed to win the battle and continue on but I can't really count it as a win.

The 3rd Nuzlocke I did was once again with Furret where we played Pokemon Platinum and I thought I was in trouble when early on I lost my starter vs the 1st gym leader but Ponyta did sort of take over the role of my starter and became super reliable all throughout the game and me and Furret both were able to win our Platinum Nuzlocke.

The 4th Nuzlocke I played was a Pokemon Black Randomized Nuzlocke with Furret where all the wild mons and trainer mons were randomized making it a very unpredictable but while I can't say I remember exactly I believe we both won.

The 5th I don't really remember much of it was a fan game me and Furret Nuzlocked, so instead I shall finish talking about my 6th Nuzlocke which might be my 3rd for all I know I can't say I remember exactly when I started or finished it. This said Nuzlocke was Pokemon Shield I had a grudge to settle with this game see when I first played Pokemon Shield the only battle I lost was vs Leon because I wasn't expecting his level jump. I ended up winning vs Leon thanks to my trusty ace throughout most of the game Noctowl.

deggle : That personally sounds like a challenge beyond what I can do. Like keeping base form pokemon the whole game? That's crazy.
Maybe it incentivizes looking for those one stage pokemon and hope you are able to get them. For example heracross I think can be found as early right after 2nd gym.

SonicOlmstead : Personally the randomized ones are the one I really want to try but with such unpredictability you have to prepare for like everything right? Sometimes you just can't prepare because of what the game gives you. Thanks to bri which I think is furret? I am tempted on doing ultra moon even though it is probably not recommended as a starting nuzlocke.

I love nuzlockes. They're not all I play but they do consist of most of my pokemon playtime ever since I got hooked on them in like 2013 or something. I can't really recall whole entire nuzlocke runs as they're all so intermingled. I remember a lot of individual moments though.

It's a way to challenge yourself and your abilities as a player. Not to say that you can't do that in other ways but this is just my preferred one. I mean it's no secret that the Pokemon games have been getting easier as the years go by these last few generations. They've fully shifted their focus towards a young audience even though I feel like they underestimate the percentage of players that are older. The weirdest part about it is that I've had people who claim to be the biggest Pokemon fans get upset at me for talking about nuzlockes. Somehow they hate how some people play the game differently from them and feel the need to gate keep how you can enjoy the game.

Something new I've come to enjoy recently has been playing with other people. I never used to do that before but having someone else there going through the same experience makes it so much more fun.

pokemon x : That's pretty much been my goal doing that nuzlocke with deg. I lucked out and got Stantler early on and was able to get a Heracross as well (though I wasted like 3 total encounters trying to get him in different places). We both just got a Lapras which will help with the end game as there's two strong dragon trainers left. I think the fact that we're playing Heart Gold/Soul Silver is really helping. I can't imagine trying something like this in gen 5 or something.

I've done a few in the past. The main one that I did was actually supposed to be a Youtube series that I did with my friend where we played Emerald but we recorded our first two sessions and then nothing came of it.

The main ones that I've done myself were the simple ones like releasing a Pokemon when it faints or only being able to catch one Pokemon per route. I do want to try one of the more complex ones but they seem way too time consuming and I want to try a randomizer even more but don't have any of the required stuff to access one.
