Sonic Frontiers just got shown off in the game awards even though in none of the gameplay do we see Sonic actually move I was curious of everyone's thoughts on a seemingly open world Sonic game.
I know there's not to really look into but I keep watching it trying to gather my thoughts the art style looks so different than what we've been getting it has me highly intrigued my biggest question I guess is what does Sonic look like to play as? What's his top speed? What does one do in a Sonic open world? I assume we won't see anymore for a while but I'll probably post in this thread once again when we finally see more. That being said what's everyone's thoughts?

A open-world Sonic game is certainly not what I would expect, to be honest - but I'm certainly intrigued by it! Especially with the graphics, as this is also not a style Sega has really gone for before, but it looks beautiful to me (if this is how the graphics really will be in game - games do have a habit of making trailers very pretty to entice, after all)

I'm intrigued by the enemies too - that's one massive robot at the end of it. It makes me wonder what type of combat system it'll be, as I wonder how they'll adapt the spin-dash and jump type of combat we are used to. I don't think he can spin-dash and jump to victory against that thing lol

Playing an open-world Sonic game is definitely gonna take some time to get use to. Graphics do look pretty nice and give me a bit of a LoZ: BotW feel. Not sure how I feel about the enemies just yet, I'd need to see more.

Also, Ian Flynn is the lead writer for the story. Getting the guy responsible for the comic's story could be a make-or-break kind of choice for this game, I think.

Regardless, I have cautious optimism for this game. We've gone through this cycle too many times not to have some form of hesitation, but based on what little info we do have, I see great potential for a Sonic game here. Can't wait for the next trailer!

An open world game would be interesting. Though I feel it would probably be similar to a hub world, like they've done in several past Sonic games. Since otherwise the gaps between point A and point B would probably be sparse if not repentative after a while.

This looks quite promising, as well as unexpected. The fastest open-world game in the history of videogames is coming xD

As a fan, quite nice to see the Sonic Team expand their boundaries beyond the used and abused concept of going from point A to point B in an enclosed layout. As a player, like many others before me have stated, it could be very good or very bad to introduce such concept on a saga where blinding speeds are a common thing, and I'm not sure if I'd personally like to test that.

Anyway, we'll have more info in the coming months as the game is still far away. I'm more intrigued by the new movie right now, it's coming sooner and the trailer was amazing as hell.

I think I've seen and heard enough and heard enough to come back and reply on some thoughts I've had after we got lots of info in June even if a lot of it was terrible marketing and more hearing what the game was like than seeing it but oh well. To be honest I'm somewhere in the middle on how to feel every time I see something from the game that makes me excited we see something else that makes me more concerned. I know I'm jaded a bit towards the news cause of Sonic Forces and how hyped I was for that game and then how disappointed I was playing it but I'll list some things that I view as positives first. So I think the first thing is just that the game won't be super short according to Sega which is a relief after most boost games feeling too short not counting Unleashed cause the werehog actually made the game feel decently long. I also really like that Ian Flynn is doing the dialogue for the game I have hope that for once I'll enjoy Roger Craig Smith as Sonic but only time will tell for sure on that but I think this might be his first real chance to have good dialogue since Sonic Boom which I didn't really watch but it's the only thing Roger didn't feel out of place in some way for me as Sonic. I really like how the combat looks so far but I'm really curious about what it feels like to play it. I think that's about it on the positives I have so far I mean I already said I'm curious how a Sonic game will work in a more open space but I've not really been impressed by what we've seen of the island so far so eh. So for negatives I hate that levels are seemingly being reused again why green hill zone I would accept Emerald Hill at this point and I don't think that's a great level. The fact we've seen so little of Cyberspace makes me concerned the level design is going to be Forces like but that's me being pessimistic I guess. Not really something I would hate on the game for without playing it but it came to mind so I thought I'd bring it up I think the one enemy that throws it's blade at sonic and uses it as a shield looks super annoying to fight lol. I could probably talk all day about this so I'll stop here but that's some of my thoughts so far I hope the game blows me away but I'm expecting it to be good not great.

I wasn't a big fan of the footage that was shown during the Nintendo Direct. There were some aspects and mechanics that I really liked but to me it looked like the visual quality wasn't really where I would have liked it to be. I've seen some really good screenshots but seeing everything in motion didn't look too great, especially for stuff that wasn't directly in front of you.

After the distaste of sonic origins I’m not sure how I feel about sonic frontiers. After a great release of mania I thought they would continue the momentum for Origins but they butchered the game and the price wasn’t worth the content.

Makes me worry how Frontiers would fare and I learned my lesson on pre ordering…

In the 2 months since I last posted my thoughts on Sonic Frontiers, I think my opinion and hype for the game has shifted enough to justify typing another post on it. I'm not entirely sure why exactly the last few times we've gotten looks at the game I've noticed I've started viewing it a bit more positively... for one call me crazy but I'm actually okay with them reusing level design from previous games for cyberspace cause I really don't trust Sonic Team to design levels after Forces that and I'm a pretty big fan of some of the level design being reused from levels in unleashed. Though if anything I find seeing the level layouts with generation level themes like green hill and sky sanctuary a bit weird I mean if your going to reuse it I wish they'd go the full way and have it look like the level it's straight up copying design from but what can you but I guess that's a nitpick considering the level design from generations can be reused with said level themes.

Besides the reuse of level design, I think the other thing that has me more excited now is just seeing the little bits of the story we've gotten and how different Roger sounds this time around.

Finally the past few days we first got a teaser of the ending theme and then today they posted a bit of the main theme. I'm still getting used to both I'm Here and Vandalize but I wasn't really expecting Crush 40 so I'm not disappointed about that aspect of the themes.

For once, I'm super surprised for a Sonic game and look forward to buying it once the price get a little cheaper. I'm really happy they went with the open zone and it looks like it has great combat and speed. I had some issues with the world design and pop-in, but for a fun Sonic game it would be worth overlooking.
