I'm surprised that NO ONE has submitted a review for this game yet. Well we have to start somewhere.

So this review will mark the end of my summer gaming MAME-ories if I managed to remember other ones I sadly don’t, not unless the site magically finds a way to play actual pinball machines, or time travel vacations are a thing. Today I will be reviewing Superman for Coin-op, the time machine shall take us to 1998, where we could only do the overnight thing because my dad was laid off for several months, and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle Pinball machine was no longer there so I played Superman instead.

Gameplay and Story: There isn’t much of a story here, it’s just showing off Superman saving the world, (okay just major American cities) Who is behind this? I don’t know the boss level is just some spaceship we don’t even know if Lex Luthor, or Brainiac, or Doomsday, or even Myxyzptlk is behind this (who the hell came up with this spelling?) We don’t even have any intro screen that explains anything all we see is this weird green dude that I don’t think has shown up in any other superman properties since.

Graphics: They’re kind of meh but we have to remember this was released in the late 80s of course they aren’t going to look good.

Soundtrack: The score from Superman the Movie is used as the background music, who could ask for anything more? I guess considering when the game came out (1987 or 1988) would probably make sense considering that Superman IV Quest for Peace came out. But it had absolutely nothing to do with the film. I’ll probably give this a good rating because I have a soft spot for the Reeve era Superman films.

Addictive: Well I can’t say it’s that addictive, but I don’t remember much else of what was in that game room at the Victoria Inn in Brandon,Manitoba back when it had an arcade area (aside from the claw machine), that area is now a workout area, but this was also the same year that hotels started having game consoles INSIDE the hotel rooms (along with welcome screens in hotel rooms, I wish I could find the one they used in the 90s up until god knows when), yep once upon a time in the hospitality industry they had video games in the hotel room, they obviously don’t anymore the last time I used something like that was in 2009, maybe one of these days I will play DKC and Super Mario World, if I go straight through and not go crazy.

Depth: There’s 5 rounds to this game, when we get to the boss level of a round we get enhanced powers, like rather than just kick we have lasers shooting out of our eyes (because we are dealing with flying things rather than, we have to touch these diamonds to increase our health, temporarily enhance our punches and the red one basically disintegrates everything else around us.

Difficulty: I had a difficult time with this one it took forever like I just wanted it to end. But I never would have finished this on an actual arcade machine though.

Post review Follow-up: Well, that’s the last of these if only I could find people that were actually at these hotels with arcades, but....something bothers me about this game, Superman shouldn't have been hit easily or should die easily because he’s frickin Superman only Kryptonite can hurt him.

This concludes my Summer Gaming Mame-ories reviews these probably won’t be back next year, join me tomorrow when I review....... Super Solvers Gizmos and Gadgets.
