Hey sexy gamers, back again from the dead to give you a fun little review of a game I enjoy thoroughly, Among Us. It's been around for quite some years but only recently saw a lot of popularity and growth, and is now one of the most well known games out there.

The premise is simple, whodunit? Among the 10 of you, two will be randomly selected as the murderers or 'Imposters' after which their task is to secretly kill all the other players. It is the normal players' mission to find and vote off the imposters. This format is tried and true and has appeared many times already, but the charming style of Among Us really made it stand out among the crowds.

Graphics - 10/10

Speaking of style, the graphics for Among Us are perfect. The chubby little astronauts you play as are ridiculously cute and will seriously make you want to pinch their little cheeks. They offer you like 12 color schemes too so you can play as your favorite one (I love the red one). The maps have a lot of detail added to them that make them stand out, and although not much visual action takes place, that kind of adds to the charm too. You're walking around this silent spacecraft trying to repair it by completing tasks, all of which are neatly drawn and look realistic but true to the art style. In particular I think the wires and the trash tasks are super well done. Maybe not the leaf one...

Sound - 6/10

I mean I'll be honest there's not much sound to this game. The menu song is very repetitive and just adds a little mystery to the atmosphere, and throughout the maps theres barely any noises, aside from your footsteps and the tasks you're doing. And let's not talk about the sound that plays when you fail the card swipe for the 20th time in a row.

Addictive - 9/10

This game is one of those that you play with friends and after every round you always go "one more game". I think the simplicity of the format really allows for an addictive game. You don't have to work or be too active playing the game and you can play it however you like. Tryharding, messing with people, fake afk-ing, there's a lot you can do here. At some point though one of you will get enough and once that happens the lobby always dies down. I wouldn't say it's a game you pull all nighters on, especially as you'll likely need other strangers to join you as well.

Story - N/A

This game doesn't have a story. You kind of create your own story every game and in some you'll come out victorious and in some you will lose.

Depth - 7/10

The game doesn't inherently offer you a lot of variety. There are 4 maps out right now, all of which are fun to play and are shaped differently so you'll have to memorize all the locations on the map. They're still actively developing the game but I doubt we'll ever reach 10 maps. Thankfully the game doesn't require too much to be enjoyable, as just being able to switch between a few maps is enough to have a lot of unique games.

Difficulty - 5/10

I'm rating this a 5 because well, it really depends from game to game. You'll find people who are so blatant at being imposter it's the easiest thing in the world, and you have tryhards who calculate light timing to kill you right out of someones field of vision. Overall though the game is very fair to everyone. Just because you're a great player doesn't mean you are guaranteed to win, unlike a lot of strategy games. The crewmates outweigh the imposters by a lot, and sometimes that's enough to turn the tide. You can't control what human players are going to do and that's why the difficulty is perfectly balanced. There are however some settings recently introduced to make it a little more challenging, like the task bar not showing or anonymous voting.

Gameplay - 10/10

Not an official category but it should be told, this game is so fun to play. The controls are smooth, easy and not hard to master. Various buttons show up on your screen depending on your position to the map and to other players. It takes just a simple mouse click or the click of a hotkey and you can perform an action. The loading times are usually not that bad and barring a glitch here or there the game plays smooth. To make things fair for imposters there exist vents that you can travel through to get around the map faster and give yourself an alibi.

Overall - 9.9/10

I'm giving this game a 9.9/10. It's not perfect because I have gotten kicked by the servers or had the game crash once or twice, but with active development now I think those are minor concerns. It's the go-to murder mystery game out there right now, it's easy to play so you dont have to be an avid gamer to really do well, and it's a fun game to play with friends. Something funny is guaranteed to happen if you start playing this game, and it's one of the best ways to get revenge on friends for calling you a stupid idiot dumbass sometimes. Not to mention how fun it is to manipulate someone to be your ally only to kill them in the end. I'll be looking forward to future updates this game might have.

I feel like the Among Us experience is entirely dependent on who you're playing with. The game itself isn't inherently fun; on the surface it's really nothing more than doing basic mini games and waiting to be killed (or 20% of the time, doing the killing). Public lobbies aren't enjoyable at all, at least in my opinion. But if you can get a group of 9 or 10 cool people in a Discord call together, the game is a blast. For this reason, it's a hard game to review based only on its own merits, but I think you did a good job with it.
