I was thinking that Vizzed should have like a trophy system sorta like Ps3 or something along with achievements such as for the retro game room, arcade, and for posting, something to distinguish and honor people for stuff, you could put within our profiles ya know, a place to flaunt it along with everything else, its kewl idea I think, what do you guys think???

I completely agree with you I've mentioned it a few times, and I believe that it will be done one day. But it's not really up high on the list of things to do so it could be a long way away.

We've already talked about this before in another thread where I made my thoughts know.
But to recap, I think it's a horrible idea, and is just a giant p1ssing contest.
"I have all the achievements for this game" "oh yeah well I have all those and these"
Who cares. I know I don't care for the rediculous competitiveness.
Retro games also don't need such a system because they arn't so bad that they need acievements to keep people playing them (which is more then I can say for alot of games these days).

I think they are a great idea, without them you have no goals which makes it pointless.

You say that without achievements there are "no goals" but alot of older games have percentage completion, high scores, unlockables and multiple endings.
And umm, how about finishing the game?

I remember when beating a stage was so amazing that I didn't need a achievement to flaunt to my friends to feel accomplished.

Because I beat the stage, and the sensation was reward enough.

Well you must be thinking of achievements as some sort of material gain when actually every game has achievements when you beat a level. So bashing the idea of achievements makes no sense.

When you got 4000 posts you celebrated the achievement, but now you are bashing the idea of achieving something? I don't get it.

Either way you look at it you either got imaginary achievements or materialistic achievements where you actually get something in return. I think its more fun when you get something in return then to do it all for no purpose.

I'll put it in more simple terms, you can't go hating achievements when you get Viz for each post. You like Viz don't you? Do you still want viz? Makes it more fun doesn't it? I think so.

No the scale of what you achieve can vary and for what but everyone likes a pat on the bat, and ever since games came out people bragged, its part of the lifestyle. I just think it would be cool for people to have a little incentive....just an idea....

For example, what DM said shows what I mean.
You don't need some sort of trophie to show that you beat a level.
You don't need something to show others you beat the game unless you think you need to compete with them.
But the point of games isn't to compete with others unless it's a multiplayer game.

Achievement systems like they have in 360/PS3 games are rediculous as it's just a competition to see who can get the biggest epeen.
Really, we have a "High Scores Table" on alot of games so the only other thing that might be ok is some way of showing if you have finished a game.
Anything else is just so much bragging and boasting over stupid little things, there's no point for something that records that you beat a certain level in the game or got a certain item (I would think being past that certain level and having that item in your inventory proves that you did those things)

To address the point of posting, I made a 4000th post just because it was asked about at the time.
I didn't make a 3000th post because I don't care and no one asked me about it.

the only way I'd be really interested in this would be if the things that you had to do were actually difficult to achieve so it would actually be very rare for someone to achieve them.

I dislike the idea of getting an achievement for beating a single game...

but if you beat every single mega man game in the RGR then I think THAT could be worthy of an achievement....

but if this does become a feature then I want something actually challenging.

Exactly, the whole point behind it, would be challenging which would be cool to have something to show for that being done, of course people are going to brag, people will brag regardless what it is....

We've already got a discussion regarding this in the Development forum somewhere and yes I do plan to implement an achievement/award system on vizzed board within the next 3 months. Why the heck not? Nothing to lose and only more fun+incentives for users.

I just had another idea.... what would make achievements even better would be to have achievements per week.

We would outline certain things you had to accomplish before the week was over and if you could manage it then you would get an achievement.... just an idea of how to make it a little more dynamic than simply "Do this and you get it once you're done regardless of how long it takes"

Don't let the braggers take away from the fun you can get from achievements. As long the achievements aren't retarded like "You just passed level 1!" they can actually be alot of fun to complete. I really don't care if anybody sees my trophys I just like the extra challenges.

The idea of trophies / achievements seem to just be something for casuals and jocks who want to compete as well as an excuse to continue playing a mediocre game.
It's easier to add those things rather then game companies actually making a good in depth game.
