Super Neptunia RPG is the most recent spin-off in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, and it's the first game in the franchise on a Nintendo console. The Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise has always been associated more with Sony and Playstation consoles than with Nintendo, even so, this Neptunia spin-off, developed by Compile Heart and Artisan Studios, was...developed not only for Playstation 4 and PC, but also Nintendo Switch. Artisan Studios is a canadian developer and it has been said that they enjoyed making a game in collaboration with Compile Heart, there's a lot of heart, love and effort in Super Neptunia RPG, at least, according to Julien Bourgeois, co-founder and Game Director of Artisan Studios...is this game developed by Artisan Studios and Compile Heart worth playing? The answer is: Yes.

Story: It's one of my favorite stories in the Neptunia franchise, at least. In Super Neptunia RPG, the CPUs have amnesia, in the original game, only Neptune has amnesia but in this game, the other CPUs also have amnesia. One of the first things you see is the goddesses fighting against...something, the goddesses disappear and Purple Heart is left alone in a mysterious area/space, after that, Neptune appears sleeping in a house, a man goes in and wakes her up, asking for a payment of taxes, Neptune tells him that she doesn't remember anything other than her name. So, Neptune then starts working for Bombyx Mori, the organization that rules the world of Gamindustri in Super Neptunia RPG, she only works for Bombyx Mori for a while, she quickly abandons the organization and instead tries to get her memories back, with the help of Blanc, Noire, Vert and, perhaps to a lesser extent, Chrome. Blanc, Noire, and Vert also have amnesia, and because of that, it's interesting to see how the events in the game unfold, I really like how Neptune believes that she is a hero (that's always the word used, ''hero'' not ''heroine''), a lot, actually, and as always, she is an unpredictable character regarding what she will say next, she is a funny character that often breaks the fourth wall in various and unexpected ways, and even when she doesn't break the fourth wall, she is still an entertaining and funny character, honestly, it's impossible to hate her, she's an amazing character and I don't hate her, in fact, just like the other Neptunia games, Super Neptunia RPG has a great cast of characters, I really like most characters at least, Paix St. Gliss might be the only character I don't like, but the keyword here is ''might''...I'm not sure...Anyway, I won't spoil anything, especially because this is recent game for now, but yeah, I don't know if it's because I'm a fan of Neptunia and fantasy themes but, this being the most fantasy-oriented game in the franchise, not just in the design of the maps or areas, but also story, I can't help but like the story a lot, perhaps one could say that the CPUs in this game are an example of characters with amnesia done right, even without their memories, the CPUs are as likable as they have always been, and for the most part, their personalities aren't different here compared to the other games, there are minor discrepancies (since when Noire speaks in third person?), but other than that, even though this is a Neptunia game developed by a western studio, the characters...are pretty much the same characters. Overall, I love the story of Super Neptunia RPG, more or less.

Graphics: Super Neptunia RPG is a 2D game, the only 2D game in the franchise for consoles (Steam also has Neptunia Shooter), and what can I say? It looks beautiful, probably the best looking game in the franchise, after all, large amounts of 2D art can look better or more appealing than impressive or great 3D graphics, so, yeah, I love how the game looks, Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online also looks amazing, but this being a 2D game, Super Neptunia RPG probably looks even better, Tsunako's art here is on par with the previous games, at least, because to be honest, her art might look even better here, some people have said that Tsunako's art looks better or more refined here compared to the previous games, and looking at the cover and the CG images in the game itself, that might be true. The maps are incredibly detailed and even though there is a lack of visual effects at times, it's still a game that looks amazing. The animations are well done for the most part, only the animations of Neptune when she moves leave something to be desired...it doesn't look convincing enough, let's say, the animations could be better, other than those animations, the game is well animated and it looks gorgeous.

Sound: Every song composed for the game is original, unlike previous games in the franchise, I love the complete lack of recycled music, and the original songs are amazing at times, I like the soundtrack more than I thought. Super Neptunia RPG has a soundtrack that differs from what one would expect from the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, maybe with the exception of Cyberdimension Neptunia, and even that game doesn't really have the same kind of music or soundtrack. This game mainly contains orchestral and acoustic music, in fact, it pretty much only contains those types of music, but that's not a bad thing. There are many great themes and several relaxing songs...Exploring the Forest, Sakura Sakura, The World that Lies Below, all of them are relaxing and very nice to listen to. Both versions of A Cute Little Girl are very good, A Traditional Peace is interesting...Super Neptunia RPG is another Neptunia game with a great soundtrack. The voice acting is pretty good, Erica Mendez voices Noire again, perhaps Erin Fitzgerald isn't going to voice Noire ever again, but that's okay, because Erica Mendez does a great job as Noire, of course, we have new characters and for those new characters, the voices are fitting and the acting is great, Paix St. Gliss is voiced by Faye Mata and...is that Sarah Anne Williams as Filyn? If Filyn isn't voiced by her I don't know who voices that character, that's how I put it, I'm totally convinced that Filyn is voiced by Sarah Anne Williams.

Addictive: The game has gameplay similar to the Valkyrie Profile games. You have a formation of at least 1 character, and can have a maximum of 4 characters during a battle, each character attacks with a specific button (A, B, X, and Y), and you can change formation during a battle, to use items you pause the game (+ button) and then choose an item to use. The game isn't a turn-based RPG in the sense that even if you don't press a button to attack, the enemy will attack anyway, if the enemy used a magic attack and you press one of the buttons to attack, perhaps you'll have to briefly wait for the attack to be executed, it's true that you can use a specific button (I don't remember which one) to speed up the battles, but I rarely used that function. As a game, Super Neptunia RPG is functional and the game is fun to play, the game suffers from slowdown and to be honest, the slowdown affected the experience once or twice, but for the most part, I'd say that Super Neptunia RPG runs well enough and it's playable, I like the platforming and it's fun to explore the 2D world as Neptune, those magic stones (terms used in the game, not mine) are fun to collect, and there are many treasure chest in the game, the treasure chests and magic stones contribute to the fun factor...I like this game. It's not perfect of course, usually in 2D games (in my experience, at least), you have the option of moving the character with the d-pad, but not in this game, in Super Neptunia RPG, only the left analog stick can be used to move Neptune...why? I don't like that, it would be even better if you could move Neptune with the directional buttons of the left joy-con.

Depth: There are many optional quests to complete, although the game is shorter than other RPGs. You can finish Super Neptunia RPG in 35 hours or less, especially if you really know what to do or where you have to go, I used many hours to finish Super Neptunia RPG, and I think I finished the game in about 40 hours, but that's partially because I really took my time with the game and I completed many optional quests, also, I didn't know what to do once, twice, at worst maybe 3 times, for the most part, the game is linear and you know what you have to do.

Difficulty: I lost a few times, that said, Super Neptunia RPG isn't a difficult game, and, like other games in the franchise, it's...an easy game.

It's an interesting game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise and I recommend it even if you have never played a Neptunia game before, Super Neptunia RPG is a good game and I recommend it to both Neptunia fans and non-fans. The game has a great cast of characters, an interesting story (more or less) with many funny moments and hilarious dialogue (the game also contains suggestive dialogue of course), an amazing soundtrack, beautiful graphics, and great voice acting, Super Neptunia RPG is, in my opinion, better than other Neptunia games, is it the best game in the franchise? Probably not, but at least...it's an enjoyable game, that's for sure.

lolid23 : Because the post editor of Vizzed really doesn't work, I'll post the information here:
It has come to my attention that Filyn isn't voiced by Sarah Anne Williams. Sarah Anne Williams (or, just Sarah Williams if you prefer) does not voice Filyn, several sources (imdb.com, Hyperdimension Neptunia wiki...) say that Filyn is actually voiced by Reba Buhr, she is probably a, more or less, new actress who also voiced Little Mermaid in Mary Skelter 2, at least according to behindthevoiceactors.com. Assuming that the information from those sources is correct, it would seem that Reba Buhr has some range and she can do a voice similar to the natural voice of Sarah Williams, I mean...it seems that Uni and Metalia for example have voices that are not very far from her natural voice. Filyn might sound like a character voiced by Sarah Williams, but yeah...she is probably voiced by someone else, after all...
