Hello and welcome to my Review of Onrush, It's the 5th game I'll be reviewing in 2019 if I recall correctly.

Onrush is a racing game but not in the standard way. It's more of a battle racing game with set objectives, one does not simply come first by being the fastest in this game. There's several modes to try and win in, and a few car types that all have strengths and weaknesses. All the cars also have an "ultimate" ability as well.

Graphics
The graphics for the game are pretty good in my honest opinion, It has this very slight cartoonish vibe to it, for lack of a better reference it's very similar to fortnite art direction wise. Besides that awful comparison. The graphics are usually exciting to look at with explosions and car wrecks flying around all the time. It also does a slow motion replay of whenever you take another car out which is very pleasing to watch but also reminds me of Burnout quite a bit.  To summarise the graphics are good and by no means bad at all, but they're not amazing either.

Sound
The sound in this game is pretty solid. Especially when it comes to crash noises and such. It's so good in places that it's almost like you can feel the crashes at times. Besides that the music that plays when you use your ult is rather intense... Which makes it feel as it's something special and amazing to use.. Even if you don't really get anything out of it sometimes.

Addictiveness
This game is actually rather fun to play and I can definitely seeing it being fun to play with people online with. At no point did I think the game was truly boring to play. However it's also likely that I wont pick the game up unless I'm playing against someone else. The variation of the modes helps a lot in terms of not making the game get stale and the game tries to award you for playing by giving you different title cards for use online for reaching goals within the game, so for completionists it will take a while to get everything for sure.

Story
This game really doesn't have much of a story, the single player campaign pretty much tells you about how "onrush" became a sport that was watched worldwide and loved but besides that it's pretty much just 2 teams racing and trying to destroy each other to win a game.

Depth
The game shines with it's creative use of game modes in my opinion there isn't just a standard race mode.. The first mode is basically about which team can get the most boost and the first person to reach the target number will win the round. Which sounds boring and simple until you realise that you get boost and stop the other team from gaining boost for a small while if you destroy them. The second mode is basically a countdown type game.. Your team has to keep driving through gates to keep adding time to a constantly draining timer.. And whoever runs out of time first loses. The third mode is basically king oft the hill where whoever has the most team members in the area and keeps it like that for about 5 seconds will win the point and then the fourth mode is basically a 3 lives game. You start off with the bike classes and if you get destroyed you move to the next vehicle type. If you get destroyed 3 times you run out of lives and your job is to protect or destroy anyone else who has lives left... First team to lose all their lives loses. So four game types for a racing game is pretty good in my opinion especially considering they are all quite different to one another.

Difficulty
I didn't find the game overly difficult but it can get hard in certain places. Most of the difficulty can come from the AI drives in your team performing worse than the other teams AI, it's not a constant fight to carry your AI team mates but sometimes they just get outperformed and it makes winning sometimes stupidly hard especially in the elimination type games. Besides that I had fun, the game usually reaches that nice spot of not being so easy that you don't try whilst not being too hard that it makes you angry constantly.

Final Thoughts
Onrush is a fun game, there's no denying that at all. I would recommend the game to people looking for a different type of racing game. I would however state that it's probably more fun to play against friends and that if you play it solo you might not really get the most out of the game.
It's also a game that can easily be put down and picked up again. Considering it was one of the free ps plus games recently I'm not sure how soon it will become on sale again though.
