Well i am watching x play and they are talking about the playstation move. Microsoft is working on a motion controls called project naval or something like that. microsoft's is suppose to not use a controller but it will have a camera and interpret your motions, playstations controllers look almost exactly like the wii's. these new control methods are just upgrades for the ps3 and 360 not a new console. I think its just them trying to cash in on the wiis market. o and sony said on xplay that they are thankful for what nintendo has done for motion controls but they think they started the idea with their eye toy.

It's tough to say.... if they work better than the Wii then I'd say no.... cause you wouldn't want to rip that off

But the idea of motion controllers for sure was Nintendo's first.... at least, they produced it first. But I'm totally fine with having other consoles having this option as well.... makes the Wii sort of pointless to own in a way.

I really hope Microsoft and Sony stay away from motion control. I like my motionless gameplay and hate playing the Wii when I'm by myself. I like diversity. Gives us more options.

Playstation 3, I believe was came out before nintendo wii and even if not, they really didnt rip it off of wii, playstation doesnt fully incorporate the sixaxis into the games, its just an outlet maybe fun side thing they incorporate into some of the games so not really but good thread topic....

This thread talks about the stick / wand controllers the Wii has and how Microsoft and Sony are working on motion controllers similar (in Sonys case I would say very similar) to Nintendos.
I really can't say how much I hate these interactive motion controlers, but I suppose it might increase battery sales

not too sure who should be credited with the technology being used by the the game developers of today, but i do know it's old technology, older than eyetoy. virtual reality and motion sensory style arcade games have been around for decades. the camera (or Project Natal for 360) uses technology used to make video games! it creates a basic sketch of your body on your tv based off of motion...same as the sensors they would hook up to an athlete for a football game.

Well, as Lagslayer said before me, I too believe that they are following in Nintendo's footsteps for increased profit margins. Besides, it's progress, not ripping off Nintendo as the motion controller may have different uses. Heck, Sony or Microsoft may even improve upon the design in the future.

The video game market is always advancing. When Nintendo made Super Mario64, Sony wasn't going to sit and stick with 2D to not "rip off" nintendo. (And yes, Mario64 was produce before Sony 3D games but realeased later).

The whole vedio game industry is evolving, a company won't just stay behind and not "rip off" some other company.

to steer the dragon you had to tilt the controller

I think they both are - seeing the success Nintendo has had in moving in to new gaming markets (family, elderly etc) has made both Sony & Microsoft want to copycat and steal some of the success.

It really disappointments me though because I'd rather have them focusing their efforts on inventing the next generation of gaming technology rather than just improving on an existing technology.

I think the Natal from Microsoft has a bit more of an innovative edge using the video technology but they could have been doing so much more. we'll see what things change when both products are released later this year.
