Here's a review on the 1 of the 2nd pair of 7th Generation Pokemon games, Ultra Sun. Ultra Sun (along with Ultra Moon) was released November 17th, 2017. This game tells an alternative storyline from the original Sun & Moon games that were released a year prior, as well as this game also added more Pokemon from other regions to make a more diverse list of Pokemon to capture.

Graphics...

The first thing you'll notice once you start playing Ultra Sun (or Ultra Moon, or even Sun/Moon), you'll notice that Game Freak took more of a semi-realistic look towards the game instead of the chibi-cartoonish look that we have seen in Generation VI, and the Pixelated look from Generation V and prior, and with this, it has given it more of a realistic feel whenever you're playing the games. Although the only thing that hasn't changed a whole lot is the battles, although they have recycled the Gen VI battle screens, but they have tweaked a tiny bit, mostly with the moves.

For the Graphics, I give it a 10, mostly with the semi-realistic look and the updated graphics from Gen VI.

---------------------

Sound/Music...

With the Sound Effects, not really have changed a whole lot, basically about the same as with the previous Pokemon Entries, although some of the sound effects got a whole lot more clearer during the release of Ultra Sun (and Ultra Moon).

For the music, it has brought that mixture of the typical Pokemon music you came to known for the past nearly 22 years and those Tropical/Polynesian music. Every Pokemon release all has a type of theme to fit their games, between Black's, White's, Black 2's, & White 2's Urban themes, to X's & Y's Classy themes, to Sun's, Moon's, Ultra Sun's, & Ultra Moon's Tropical/Polynesian themes. It's also not just the Regional themes, it's all those classical music as well from the battle music, the Pokemon Center theme stick around with a more tropical remix to it.

For the Sound/Music, I give this game a 10, mostly for the clearer sounds effects that improved over time, combined with the newer music track.

--------------------

Addiction Level...

Just with any other Pokemon entry, during the latest release, it tend to be quite an addicting game, but once the next release comes out, it won't be that much addicting, unless you are dedicated to that game. When it comes to Ultra Sun (and Ultra Moon), this game is quite addicting with all of the features that it brought back and all the newer features that in introduce that we haven't seen in previous entries. Plus combining with all the battles you do, either by single player, or battling with someone Locally or across the Globe, the Pokemon series can be quite an addictive game, even despite that the next Pokemon Generation might lead this game to be a little less addictive, but people might still be returning to Ultra Sun (and Ultra Moon).

I give the Addiction Level a 9, mostly because of the pure addiction of the entire Pokemon franchise as a whole, and everything that Ultra Sun (and Ultra Moon) has

---------------------

The Storyline...

How the storyline starts out with you and the mother packing bags to move from the Kanto region to the Alola region, and while you're taking care of the moving procedure, you get a call from the Alolan Pokemon Professor, Professor Kukui, describing the beauty of the Alola region and it's Pokemon, and also asks you (like every other Professors before him) if you're either a boy or a girl to create your own Alolan passport that you use throughout the entire game. While all that is going on, Lillie who happens to be running off and escaping the Aether Foundation with a small, but very powerful Pokemon (Cosmog) in her bag until she got surrounded by the employees of the Aether Foundation and the powerful Pokemon used teleport to teleport it and Lillie to safety.

3 month has passed after these events took place, you and the mother got a custom to the Alola region, and you decided to take a bit of a walk around the island until you got stunned by a Yungoos, but it got scared off by the 3 Alola Starters that Kukui brought, and he offered you one of the (which is by your choice). Once you done that, you head over to Iki Town where you do a few things like meet one of your rivals Hau, (who's the friendlier of your 2 rivals) and you spot a mysterious girl (Lillie) walking away, and you followed her, and while she was walking away, that powerful Pokemon Cosmog, which Lillie named "Nebby" escapes her bag which is the 1st out of like 1,532,855,876,237,543 different times it escaped from Lillie's bag, and while it was out, a flock of Spearows attack Nebby, and you try and go save it, which caused Nebby to destory the bridge, falling to your death, until Tapu Koko saved your life, and Lillie thanked you for saving Nebby's life, and thank Tapu Koko for saving your life.

After that, the story isn't really a whole lot different, about the same as you would expect with a Pokemon game, except substitute Gyms with Trials and Grand Trials, you encounter your Antagonist team group who are Team Skull, and you also meet your other rival named Gladion, unlike Hau, Gladion is more of an emoish type of guy who's works for Team Skull, you keep on going clearing those Trials and Grand Trials.

After you get through a few Trials. you notice that Team Skull happen of stole a Pokemon from a child (like seriously, who would do such a thing), and you had to go get it back until you realized that once you got the Pokemon and returned it, it was more of a distraction for Team Skull to team up with the Aether Foundation to finally get the Pokemon that they claimed that Lillie stole (Nebby) and they took both Lillie and Nebby, and you go rescue them both, which lead to a domino effect where the President of the Aether Foundation Lusamine used Nebby's powers to open an Ultra Portal and both her and Guzma (Team Skull's Boss) crossed through., Worried to death, Lillie told you that you need to save them, so you summoned the Legendary Pokemon (which in Ultra Sun, it's Solgaleo) to open the portal to get both Lusamine and Guzma out, and when they got out, Necrozma came out and fought with the Legendary and then took over it's body and disappeared, and when it disappeared, it created a huge blackout across the entire Alola region.

You have to go save that Legendary Pokemon by using the Legendary Pokemon of that region (which in Ultra Sun, it's Lunala), and you mange to save the Pokemon from Necrozma, and you battle it's Ultra Form, and once you got that accomplished, you resume your adentures to finish the rest of the trials and Grand Trials, and then you go on an battle in the Elite Four and the Championship which for the first time in series history, it was vacated due to it being just built and you battle your rival Hau to become the first ever champion of Alola.

After you become champion, you start your post-game where one of the things you have to do, The Festival Plaza (which I will get to under Depth) gets taken over by Team Rainbow Rocket, and you have to take he plaza back, and while you battle the grunts, you also have to battle 6 of the team leaders from the other 6 regions, which brings that nostalgic flashbacks from those previous Antagonist Boss battles in previous games, and once you defeat all 6, the Plaza is back to normal.

So, for the story, I have to give it a 9 out of 10, probably one of the best stories I have seen (although Gen V storylines were a little better to my opinion), but it is quite an interesting storyline in the whole Pokemon franchise.

---------------------

Depth...

Kinda like in the past entries of the franchise, you happen to travel throughout the region of Alola, exploring all sorts of places to see a diverse number of wild Pokemon, but what makes Generation VII more unique is the introduction of the Alola Forms, which is basically an alternation of the original Forms of these Pokemon, like their types are a whole lot different, their move sets are a whole lot different, and basically changes your plans with these Forms. On top of these wild Pokemon, you have a lot of different elements of the game that has changed from what we were used to in the previous 6 Generations, such as instead of 8 Gyms that you have to accomplish to even face the Elite Four/Champion, you have to clear 7 Trials & 4 Grand Trials. Also, in Ultra Sun (and the other 3 Alolan games), you have the ability to customized your character which is a return from X & Y, but with far more clothing options to chose from.

Also, for the first time ever, you also have an online community that was added in the game which is called "The Festival Plaza" Where you can do all your trading, either by Local Trading (via Local Wireless) or Global Trading (via GTS), as well as battling with anyone either Locally or Globally. and on top of that, you also get rewarded for completing missions and battles. Although for a brief moment in the post-game, the Plaza gets taken over by Rainbow Rocket, but after you defeat them, the Plaza returns back to normal.

For the Depth, I got to give it a 9 out of 10, mostly because of the amount of customization you can do with your character.

---------------------

Difficulty/Gameplay...

The Difficulty isn't really that half bad compared to some of the previous entries in the Pokemon series, but it can be quite challenging none the less. If you're a veteran of the series, majority of the game is quite easy. But when it comes to the difficulty, it all depends on the Pokemon team you have, the game can be easy to some, and the game can be extremely had to others, depending on their Pokemon team, there is a saying, "there is no two same Pokemon Trainers".

For the gameplay, even despite that Sun & Moon did introduced the 3D movement, but I'm just going to go with the entire Gen VII. This was the first Generation to introduced the whole 3D movement that wasn't seen in other Generations, with Gen VI's 8 direction and Gen I-Gen V's 4 directions. which is a huge change towards the series, but the only downsize to that is.... NO BIKE!!!! (just kidding, I didn't really care too much about the bike anyways).

On top of that, the battles you get into has tweaked a whole lot, to make moves go a whole lot more fluently than before, and speaking of battles, you know on how Gen VI introduced that Mega Evolution which for 1 battle, and only limited to 1 Pokemon, which only makes it stronger, in Gen VII, it introduced the "Z-moves" which is a special move that is only used once per battle for your entire team (which means despite if you only have a team or 1 or a team of 6, it's still 1 per battle), which is a nice introduction to the series.

For the Difficulty and Gameplay, I give it a 7, it's a little bit on the tough side, but not too tough though.

---------------------

Overall...

Overall, I got to say, Pokemon Ultra Sun (& Ultra Moon) were quite an impressive game, and it has became my 3rd most favorite pair of Pokemon games (only behind Black/White & Black2/White2), long story short, it has brought a number of newer things that the series hasn't seen in prior generations and basically pushed the 3DS limits to the max.

Note, I know I have skipped Sun's & Moon's entries when I mentioned about everything in this review, Sun and Moon would basically also fill in these as well, when it comes to the graphics, sound/music, addiction level, most of the storyline, most of the depth, and the Difficulty/Gameplay, they are nearly identical, and to basically save time of posting exact copies 3 other times, that is why I skipped over Sun & Moon.

Now, for the final rating, I give this game a 9.3 out of 10.

Heads up: something glitched, and you ended up posting "you get a call from the Alolan Pokemon Professor, Professor ,"

Aside from that, I wanna say that you shared most of the story which is a little spoilerish, but –and I don't mean this as an insult to the series– it's Pokémon, so besides minor tweaks between gens, everyone already knows what the story will be for the most part.

The review was pretty solid though. Nice work, man.

Eirinn : Thanks for spotting some of those minor typos, but I went ahead and fixed those. As for the whole story, I haven't realized that I did a little too much wording and basically told almost the whole story, been quite awhile since I've done some reviews, so I am a little rusty with reviews.
But thanks though.

Oh hey, I didn't mean to critique really. Sorry if I came across rudely. I meant it when I said that you did a good job here. Only having one or two small issues with a full review is actually an accomplishment imo. I tend to make far more than that. lol

Eirinn : Not to worry, I understand you pointing out some things so I know once I get back to posting reviews once again, it's better for you to point out a mistake or two, even little tiny ones, it's what makes future reviews even better.  Knowing the mistakes is the key to making future reviews even better.

I'm not a big fan of Ultra Sun. I felt like there weren't too many big differences from the original to really make a difference other than wormholes, which I LOVED.

In fact, at time I felt like I was forcing myself to play just so I could get to the wormholes.

zanderlex : Yeah, other than a few changes from the story (like 25% of the story), a few additional Pokemon added to the Alola region, and the wormholes, there isn't that much difference between Sun/Moon and UltraSun/UltraMoon.

But I do agree, I love the wormholes that they added in the game, gives you a chance to get those Legendaries in the previous 6 generations.
