Everyone gets hyped up over new games from their favorite franchises being announced and I'm sure more than a few have been sorely disappointed about some of them after months of excitement and suspense. What was the most disappointing gaming experience for you?

I can't cite anything that was a real let down for me except Final Fantasy X-2, and perhaps I never gave it enough of a chance. Either way, that poor horse had been dead for a long time and beaten plenty enough.

The most disappointing game I've ever played was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. The story-line, graphics and game-play
were all good but it only took me about 2 hrs to beat the game on my first play-through.

Soul Calibur V, by far the most disappointing.

Besides the changes to the character roster (some needed due to plot, some because of s***ty reasons), what was worse was the story mode. It was incredibly short, almost more than any other previous title in the franchise, and you didn't even get to use half the characters there.

I guess this thread only applies for games we've bought or owned, but I want to say that Tekken 7 was also a massive let down. I was very hyped to get it, but then I saw the unexplainable changes to the character roster and the shift to include lots of DLC post-release and I was like screw them. Several years in the making just for that is almost unforgivable, but I guess that's how greedy they've become after becoming so successful in the last +20 years.

zanthehero : I'm actually a little surprised to hear that about Force Unleashed 2... I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and was looking forward to trying the second eventually, but now I know to make sure I get it at a bargain. 2 hours of gameplay is a demo, not a finished game...

EX Palen : I've only had the chance to play Soul Caliber and Soul Caliber II thoroughly. I played a demo of both III and V, and while III got me excited to get the game eventually, I can't say the demo for V really got me hooked. Something about it felt different. I wasn't aware of the huge roster change but I could see that bothering a number of players who's been around since the beginning of the series.

I had also heard Tekken 7 had its issues but I wasn't aware of loads of post-release DLC... I guess everything turns into a parody of itself if it's around long enough, huh?

m0ssb3rg935 : Well, we hope it's really post-release DLC, because if not some lifelong characters were basically cut off for no reason, and that's even worse.

So far, the DLC were just guest characters from other series, which is somewhat the trademark of Soul Calibur and could drive some to think Namco will also handle SCVI that way. I really hope it's not, two of my most beloved franchises of all-time going down in just one year due to this reason would be a big hit for me and almost eliminate my interest in videogames outside of racing games.

I also really liked the first Force Unleashed which was a big reason why I was as disappointed as I was with the 2nd.
I don't remember if there was any DLC if there was any it may have made the game longer but after only getting a game that
short I beat it so I could see both the light and dark side endings then traded it in.

It's also really sad to hear that Soul Calibur getting rid of life long characters. They have relied on other sources for characters
which is both good and bad but take away too much originality and you make a game that's not worth playing because it's
just like everything else out there.

To be COMPLETELY honest...

Skyward Sword...

I'm sorry.

I am a huge fan of Zelda and was really looking forward to a new one on the Wii. Unfortunately the motion plus controls never worked that well for me and I just wasn't as drawn in to the story as the other games I have played. I actually haven't even beaten the game. Now that I'm thinking about I may go back and try again for a third time but I think that may be the definition of insanity.

MoblinGardens : How far in did you get? Honestly, I felt the same way the first couple of times I tried playing it, but it picks up later. It really does. I haven't beat it yet either, but I rank it above Wind Waker.

I passed maybe the third temple? I don't really remember, it's been quite some years. I remember being at the part in the desert where you have to switch certain areas back in time? That's all I can really remember. There were some robot-like characters too.

Personally I wouldn't rank it above Wind Waker (Nostalgia Points ftw!).

Another disappointment could be Gravel. It was highly anticipated, it features nice tracks and cars... but it's developed by Milestone. Sorry for what I'm about to say, but those dudes just can't do good racing games. The cars may be real and quite detailed, but the physics totally ruin it and the inability to change that horrid pursuit camera (behind the car, basically third-person) make it a total pain. Looked promising and had good material, but I gave the demo a try and it confirmed my worst thoughts.

zanthehero : Soul Calibur isn't throwing out lifelong characters. They ditched some out because the plot had advanced like 15-20 years between IV and V, but for VI they're coming back to the times of the first two installments and so traditional characters no longer have a reason to be absent.

And yeah, the guest characters have always been a thing to discuss. Ezio was awesome with all his weaponry and in a sense was almost contemporary to the plot, so that's the only real thing V nailed more than its predecessors. The rest were just for fun, not just for being out of place (Yoda and Darth Vader were a total shock) but also because they don't really blend in with the game. I hope the guest character(s) for VI are worth it, though for me Ezio will be hard to surpass.

MoblinGardens : The Triforce hunt did Wind Waker in for me. I haven't beat it just because of it. But I get where you're coming from with the nostalgia points since I can almost 100% Ocarina of Time in my head without having t play it again.

That's Lanayru Desert. That's about where the game started getting interesting for me. From then on, it feels much more like a proper Zelda title. I won't spoil anything in case you decide to go back and try it again, though. I personally hate motion controls for most things but, in my opinion, Skyward Sword is about the only game that really got it right. The combat was very satisfying for me, particularly the fight with Ghirahim. It felt more like actual swordplay.

m0ssb3rg935 : You should try the Wind Waker HD edition on the Wii U if you have one. The triforce hunt is really dumbed down. I will agree with you however, it was seriously a weak point of the game.

As for what you said about Skyward Sword, it sounds like maybe I can give it another try But yes, the motion controls really frustrated me, it took me around half an hour to defeat Ghirahim in the initial battle with him all because I couldn't properly swing my sword between his defenses. no matter how horizontal I was swinging in real life. Personally I want to enjoy this game because of some strange feeling I have haha.

I really do love ocarina of time just to throw that out there.

EX Palen :
Weren't all the "removed" characters replaced with other characters with the same or similar style/weapons/abilities?
The only one I recall not getting a "clone" was Rock, but I feel like he was already a clone of Astaroth.

Vanelan : Not all of them. Talim had no replacement whatsoever, just like Yunsung (was it written like that?) and Seong-Mina (who was basically a bit of a clone of Kilik). I think there could be more, but right now I can't recall any others.

Also, it's like the first time I hear about Rock, which is not surprising since I've only owned SCII and SCV. Still, considering Astaroth was already in II and has been in all other games since then, Rock could merely be one-off character for a certain installment, something like Berserker in SCII who was almost a clone of Astaroth.

MoblinGardens : I don't have a Wii U, but that's not to say I'll never own one. I had heard that about Wind Waker HD and I definitely intend on giving it a try when I get the opportunity because I really, really wanted to like Wind Waker.

KillerLatias : I hadn't gotten the chance to try any of the Burnout games past Dominator. I absolutely loved Takedown and Revenge but Dominator just didn't do it for me. I had heard that Paradise went open world which seems like a huge jump away from their original formula, and maybe not in the greatest way, but I won't judge it until I try it.

It does suck that they would make a remaster without including DLC packages, though. It seems like rereleasing a game as a remaster with all the DLC with it would be the smartest move, like they did with SKyrim.

I actually haven't had the chance to play any of the Little Big Planet games but they've been recommended to me. I could definitely see not being able to recreate stuff from the earlier games irking some people.

I actually haven't had the chance to play any of the Little Big Planet games but they've been recommended to me. I could definitely see not being able to recreate stuff from the earlier games irking some people.

Okay, here goes-

Sonic Forces.

Is it aesthetically pleasing? Yes. Is it fun to make a character? Sorta.

BUT. I feel if I wanted "Fursona: Be Sonics bro"...which, thanks but no thanks, there's a website for that. Fanfiction.net, I would. Also, it clearly borrows a LOT from Generations, not that that's a bad game. Generations was great. But it was done already. Done well. Not like the watered down Forces. Sonic Forced us to endure a horrible game. BUT ENOUGH ABOUT '06! No but Sonic 06 makes Forces look good by comparison. Not that one should compare toilet water to the turd floating in it.

Mass Effect 3. Never have I taken the bite out of a trilogy so hard, and for all the memes its endings started, I'm not alone in hating the last half of that game entirely. Can an ending be so terrible as to make the other great 50% of the game moot? Yes, yes it can.

batman arkham knight. i played all of those games as soon as they came out, and i finished them in one weekend each time. arkham batmobile took me months though, i sat down and played it when i first got in for several hours and then just didnt go back because it wasnt a batman game as much as it was a tank game. the story was great but i was also semi disappointed that arkham knight turned out to be jason todd like everyone knew when they first announced it. horrible send off for the series.
