Hello, people, this is Kenneth$3 doing another review.  This time it's for Bonk's Revenge (Game Boy)!   Now, what I can say about this game?
Well, I love it!   For one, it's different from it's counterpart (Bonk's Revenge for the Turbografx-16).  I'll tell you why I love Bonk's Revenge for the Game Boy (as seen below).

Graphics: 10 - I really like the graphics and animations of Bonk's Revenge for the Game Boy.   I mean, they are fluid the graphics are really good (for 1994 standards, that is).  I especially like how Bonk's of getting hurt is cute (to me, that is).   I cannot find a single flaw to the graphics of Bonk's Revenge (Game Boy).

Sound: 9 - I really like the sound and music of Bonk's Revenge for the Game Boy.   My favorite stage theme is the space stage theme, because it's melodic and will get you pumped up.

Story: 7 - The story IS the same as Bonk's Revenge for the Turbografx-16, where King drool (the villain of the Bonk franchise, that is) steals half the moon and it's up to you (Bonk) to get that other half back!  (Sadly, there's no princess to rescue, it's just you and King Drool)!

Depth: 8 - This is where Bonk's Revenge (for the Game Boy) is different than the Bonk's Revenge (for the Turbografx-16).   You want to know why?   It's because the meat Bonk picks up during his adventure in Bonk's Revenge (for the Game Boy) can transform Bonk into THREE different forms (via a selection system, which you stop by pressing the attack button).

The three different forms are: Master Bonk (which makes Bonk jump REALLY high and run pretty fast and Master Bonk is capable of doing the equivalent of a level 1 earthquake), Hungry Bonk (which starts chewing on his enemies until they're dead and Hungry Bonk is capable of doing the equivalent of a level 2 earthquake and Hungry Bonk is the strongest form of Bonk in the game) and Stealth Bonk (which can sneak into those Bonus Rooms with the locks on them).  These Bonus Rooms have lots of Smileys, a Big Heart (which replenishes all your energy), a small white heart (collect 4 of these to add an extra heart to your life meter, of which you can have 6 hearts max), more meat or jail (which Bonk gives up half his Smileys).  Generally speaking, I try to best to go for Stealth Bonk (because who doesn't like sneaking into Bonus Rooms, am I right)?   Master Bonk and Hungry Bonk are pretty useful for bosses and levels too (because Hungry Bonk is the strongest form of Bonk in the game and Master Bonk can make the levels really easy as well).

Oh yeah, there's the other Bonus Stage (the one where you touch those flowers, that is), where you fight RoboBonk (yes, I suppose RoboBonk is SUPPOSED to be a parody of RoboCop).  In this Bonus Stage, you try to knock off RoboBonk off of the 3 rounds of the Bonus Stage (best 2 out of 3, of course).  If you win, you get an extra life.  If RoboBonk wins....well, you get turned into Mummy Bonk (where you take TWICE as much as damage as you NORMALLY do).   Round 1 of the Bonus Stage is a plain setting.  Round 2 of the Bonus Stage is a Egyptian setting where there are SLANTS of which both you and RoboBonk can fall off.  Round 3 is my favorite part of the Bonus Stage, because you get to fight RoboBonk.....on a CONVEYOR BELT!   Now, when I first played the RoboBonk bonus stage, I was pretty bad at it.  However, I discovered that you can ACTUALLY knock RoboBonk off when he's on YOUR HEAD (typically he jumps off your head the opposite side that Bonk is facing and now I can ALWAYS win the RoboBonk Bonus Stage)!   Sometimes, RoboBonk WILL jump off the Bonus Stage, giving you an EASY WIN.   Oh yeah, for some reason, RoboBonk doesn't how to abuse the flip, either........but I DO!

The controls work REALLY well on Bonk's Revenge (for the Game Boy).  Yes, the physics are different (for example, Bonk's normal jump doesn't get that much hang-time and Bonk climbs up waterfalls pretty fast), but I got used to it REALLY quickly.   There is one thing that might or might not be a flaw (depending on who you ask): the flip.  Now, I don't have a problem with THIS game's physics, but the flip can be abused (giving Bonk a LOT more hang-time, to the point where you can pretty much SKIP levels entirely by just ABUSING the flip to infinity).  Master Bonk also makes the flip even more abuse-able (because of Master Bonk's high speed and high jump ability).   Oh yeah, you can climb (with your teeth, no less) on CEILINGS and the GROUND as well (you'll have to do just that in a few levels).   Like I said, the controls work REALLY well.

The level design is very good as well.  There are a few levels where climbing on the ceiling and on the ground DO come into play here.  You have a typical tropical stage, a space stage, a factory stage, a stage with conveyor belts, et cetera).

The bosses are pretty easy (for the most part).  You have a mecha-bull boss, a dragon boss, a hog boss (which looks like he wanted to cosplay as Darth Vader, which THAT particular boss has a light-saber as well; I call him "Darth Hog"), a boss which looks like Alien (from the Alien series) which that boss just jumps on and off the climbing just like the Aliens in the Alien series), a cloud boss and finally King Drool himself.   Now, like the other Bonk games, you will have to re-fight the first five bosses again before you get to fight King Drool.

Difficulty: 2 - This is a game which has a pretty low difficulty rating due to Bonk re-spawning IMMEDIATELY where he died, the ability to get TONS of extra lives and the flip (which can be abused to infinity).   In fact, this is the second-easiest Bonk game in the Bonk series (the only Bonk game that's easier than Bonk's Revenge for the Game Boy is Super Bonk (for the SNES)).  No cheap shots/hits or anything like that will be found in Bonk's Revenge (for the Game Boy).   The fact that the level design is top notch and the controls are top notch helps quite a bit.

Addictiveness: 10 - I am MORE THAN LIKELY to play Bonk's Revenge (for the Game Boy) again and again and again!   It's great level design, very good controls, pretty good depth and great graphics and animations (even though I don't think graphics should be THAT important) will make you want to play this game and re-play this game multiple times.   Oh yeah, and it's different from it's Turbografx-16 counterpart in every way (aside from the story).

Overall Rating - 9.1 - Here's the thing: just because this game's different from it's Turbografx-16 counterpart (and most of the entire Bonk for that matter) does not mean it's bad in the slightest.  I mean, Zelda 2, Castlevania 2 and Super Mario Bros 2 were different and I liked those games a lot.   This game gets praise from me (because of the whole meat selection system being like a slot machine and the fact it has great graphics, great animations, great music, decent plot (although I don't care about plot THAT much in video games 99% of the time), pretty good depth and a low difficulty).   See you later, people.
