It sounds like you have the right idea, but in reality, it won't work. Its impossible to have every last user not post for 24 hours. Especially the newly registered users on that day. I don't think it will work out.

I'm sorry for both of the losses you have faced.  Your families will be in my prayers.

pacman1755 :
I guess you didn't go through the thread, which is understandable.
The idea isn't for every user not to post.  While that'd be nice, it's also impossible without a shut down.  This is just for people who want to participate.  I've suggested spending a day with loved ones and letting them know they're loved, or doing some sort of community service.

I just wanted to remind everyone to leave this Saturday open.  We've had a lot of people mention their lost relatives here (from what I recall, pokemonfangirl, james44208, and Mia03 made mentions.  I specifically know about a very close loss Mother3fan5 faced within these last two weeks that is heart breaking).

We had the shooting at an elementary school earlier which had nearly 20 children deaths, and a stabbing in a China elementary school that left almost 20 children severely injured and probably traumatized.

There's ~sakura~ who we most likely will never hear from for one reason or another.

Please remember to take the day off from vizzed.  Feel free to log in, but do NOT post, unless you want to leave (here in this thread) a letter of condolences for lost ones, or a letter expression love for anyone you care about.  (I think it'd be really cool if anyone who posted used this layout as kind of a candlelit vigil, but I'll send it to all of you and let you decide if you want to or not.)

Personally, I think it'd be great if we all spent time with loved ones, letting them know we appreciate them.  We can also go do some volunteer work somewhere, or spend the day in meditation and prayer.  I really am looking forward to this event, and I hope all of you participate.

Just wanted to remind everyone:

Tomorrow is the first ever vizzed vigil!  Spend time with loved ones, do something out of the ordinary, and make a difference with someone, somewhere.

Starting in 6 minutes, remember that you all have expressed an interest in not posting for 24 hours!  If you feel you absolutely MUST post, do so here, in the form of a letter of condolences/ prayer/ reflection on lost or living loved ones.

Let's show those around us how important they are to us by focusing on them for this one day.  I look forward to hearing what each of you did to commemorate this event.

I think I can do this. I have the day off from work tomorrow... but I'm not gonna spend it here at Vizzed. Instead, I'm gonna drive down to my parents house and pay them a surprise visit :o

Crazy Li :  That's totally awesome!  You'll have to share and tell us how the visit went!  Two more minutes until no posting!

btw, someone asked about profile comments. That's really up to each individual, though I think the purpose is to remain silent on vizzed and spend time with loved ones or doing something special to show care for people in general.

Thank you for having the heart to keep your commitment and for taking the time to respect the loss of loved ones, and to commemorate the lives of our loved ones.  What you have done is both respectful and admirable.  Your rose above petty temptations and online competitions and games, to take time out of the week to think of others.  I commend you, and have sent you a small token to show my appreciation.

What did you do?

Personally, I surprised my family with a Batman movie marathon, dinner, good conversation, and games.  We had a wonderful time and I'm oh so glad I took the time out to tell them I love them.  I also did some reflecting and praying for those who were lost.  There aren't many of us, I'm willing to wager, who can truly say we've been in the same position of terror as others.  Each person has some struggle or loss, and these struggles and losses are very personal.  We can't fill other people's shoes, but we can try to sit in them for just a moment and share what we learned.

Oy, I had such a good day yesterday! Had some friends (who happen to be cousins as well) over for the night, enjoyed some games in the morning with most of the fam, played with the cousins for the afternoon, watched football with my dad and grandparents, then spent time with my parents 'till 2. We should do this again sometime! Maybe make it an annual thing?

As suggested, I went and surprised my parents. It was an interesting day. Before I discussed what happened, I should give you a bit of background info.

My mother is of Japanese descent. Now while my family has been fairly Americanized, I'm sure there are still feelings of familiarity with traditional ways and whatnot. In Japanese society (as with many other Asian cultures), families are extremely close-knit. In fact, the children don't typically just move out after school and start their own lives independently of their parents like is expected in American culture. Instead, males continue to live with their parents and finds a wife to have move in with them and females live with their parents until they marry and move in with the family of their husbands. I of course did the American thing and moved out, though.

I always wondered if my mother would have preferred I stayed with her and dad in a more traditional sense though. Anyway, I think the surprise visit was beneficial because she got to see me again as she of course misses me. I'm sure my dad was very pleased as well as we've always been very close. This sounds weird to say... but we basically had the type of relationship that a father stereotypically has with his son >.> we always hung out together when I was little and he would do stuff like take me to baseball games and play catch etc.

It was a fun day all-in-all. I got to beat my dad in Mario Super Sluggers and also was treated to some great home-cooked Japanese cuisine. This actually gives me the idea that I want to set up something so that I can cook something for my parents in the near future.

Anyway, that was my day. Hope everyone else had a good one.

Since the topic day has passed, this thread should be getting closed, but I'd like to leave it open for at least another day to allow people the opportunity to mention what they did on their day away from Vizzed.

Sorry for not having held my word and ended up participating, but with how much I don't overally enjoy the company of those I'm forced to be around, I had nothing better to do.

Oh.

And there's the fact that I mainly signed up to see if you would actually change the date willingly. Why? A certain anonymous user had the suspicion that it was a mere plan for you to get nobody else to post for the day, so you could gain a winning position in the VCS. I surprisingly was on your side and believed that was indeed not the case, so I did this. However, that didn't really please Anon, since they basically said "PFFFT, SHE'S JUST DOING IT FOR THE TOUR DE VIZZED NOW!", which just made me quit trying, since there'd be no way to fix that then, but hopefully Anon has seen your lack of TdV participation and noticed that that is now the case, Nya~.

So, still, I apologize for not participating, but at the same time, I at least helped in a small way, I'd say.

(If it's any consolation, I have done a similar thing successively at school. I had participated in an event to stay perfectly silent to support the LGBT group, while most who participated, even one person who was openly homosexual himself, decided to quit some time through the event)

I'm just going to say kudos to those who signed up for this and actually kept their word to do so.  I didn't sign up for it mainly because I did not know if I would be able to do it.

I know that those who stuck to it probably had a lot of temptation to post during the vigil and by keeping their word not to they proved themselves to be honest individuals whose word actually means something and they deserve TP and credit and respect in my book.  If I had tp to give, I'd be giving some to each of you.

A promise has the greatest meaning when it is kept at a time when you least want to.  Not keeping your promise because you feel you had valid reasons to break it makes breaking that promise even worse.

KUDOS TO THOSE WHO UPHELD THEIR COMMITMENT!!!
