The whole thing is confusing to me, as once he has been accused of sex crimes, is everything he wrote simply therefore a lie, what should I do?

I'm not a huge follower of crime news nowadays. I have pretty much been that way since the OJ crapfest.

If he did sexually assault those people then people should pay attention. That's horrible, and not forgive able. I wouldn't say that just because he was/is possibly a criminal that his leaks are all of a sudden untrue though....

SunflowerGaming :

Wikileaks is a website set up by a person named Julian Essange (sp). He leaks documents buried under in the governments, mostly documents from the US and Afgahnistan, detailing the fight against the Taliban. Basically the documents contain crap they didn't want citizens to know (i.e how tons of civilians died during the war). Julian Essange is currently having problems in France (I think) of rape charges. I believe he posted bail and is now free, and promised his many fans that he would upload documents even faster.

I actually praise this website, because the government shouldn't be holding anything from us.

They are accusing him of rape because they can't think of a better way to stop him from leaking secret documents As citizens it is our duty to make sure this country is heading in the right direction. We should have FULL RIGHTS to knowing what our government does behind our backs. Giving government the ability to hide their own corruption means this country will just get more fked up in the future.

As for Julian Essange. I don't know whether he is a apart of the CIA or is an actual patriot it is kinda hard to tell. How he is getting these documents is even more questionable as to whether he is in fact real or just a patsy for someones dirty work. Why would the media report something like this if it were not in the realms of their gatekeeping policies? The media never reports stuff like this and all the sudden they do? That is kinda why I am thinking twice about this.

One way or another, Wikileaks is how media was suppose to work but we really have fallen into a web of lies and crap news. Every news station should be exposing corruption in corporations and in our military / government but instead they are using it as a means of entertainment.

I have a gut feeling though that this WikiLeaks is just a platform for online censorship. And since the media is reporting it, that gives extra credit that it is indeed what is truly happening.

To be honest, I could really give a crap less about it. Like JS said we should know a little bit more about what our country is doing, I admit maybe the document leaking was a bit much but seriously, people are gonna want to know what's happening with their country, like what if there was a nuclear bomb unleashing that the US was planning and we didn't know about it til after the fact? All the controversy surrounding it is a bit idiotic, I think.

Just to clarify...Julian Assange simply published the documents on the wikileaks website. He is not the original source of the leak. I believe he is doing what every other journalist does (the leaks were re-printed by every major news firm), therefore if he is guilty then they are all equally guilty. I believe he is being set up and he is the target of a propaganda disinformation campaign to demonize his name. Either that or he is part of a "psy-ops" conspiracy to create a scapegoat from which to catalyse the reduction of freedom of information on the internet. It has happened before in history, especially in the strategies of the Nazi party.

I've been following the WikiLeaks story for some time, and have always been a very strong and vocal supporter of what they are doing.

A bit about the site:
It was created by a group of Chinese dissidents, and is headed by the only person in the group to make himself publicly known: Julian Assange. The goal of the group is to obtain and publish confidential documents that contain information that is in the public interest to be known, but would otherwise be concealed from us. The original website was wikileaks.org, which ran for several years, until it began to release thousands of confidential diplomatic cables from around the world.

What was the government's reaction?
Although this was not the first time WikiLeaks released confidential government documents, it was the biggest. Many governments, especially America's, reacted with a strong arm that hasn't been seen quite so visibly since the McCarthy era. Companies that had an affiliation with the website were put under intense pressure to severe any ties. This resulted in the website losing its domain name, as well as many payment providers cutting off support, effectively preventing Wikileaks from accepting donations.

Around the same time, Julian Assange began to receive death threats from public officials who called for him to be illegally assassinated.

Is he a rapist?
(WARNING: THIS SECTION IS A BIT GRAPHIC)
Also around the same time, two women from Sweden came forward with sexual assault charges against him. While it is known that he did have sex with these women, his guilt has yet to be proven. What must be kept in mind though, is the nature of the charges. Sweden is known for some of the most stringent sex laws in the world. The charges against Assange are as follows:

1) Having sex without a condom (he did wear one, but it broke mid-act, making the act one of assault).
2) Having sex with a sleeping woman.

Personally, in my eyes, even if found guilty of the first charge, Assange did not commit sexual assault. And it certainly was not pre-meditated.

To me, the second charge is less clear-cut, because it depends on the circumstances, which we can never know for sure. How far did he go? People "cuddle" each other while sleeping. Many people I've talked to even enjoy having sexual acts done to them while sleeping. If this was the sort of mindset he was in, does it make him 'evil?' Of course, there are many reasons for a law preventing this to be in place, and I don't argue with many of them. But keep it in mind.

Does it matter if he is a rapist?
No, it most certainly does not. Even if he is, the entire incident only serves as a cover-up/distraction for two things:
1) The information contained in the documents
2) The incredible need for government transparency

Even if Assange was guilty of these charges, and even if these acts are 'evil,' it does not mean ALL of Assange's acts are evil. This is a simple fallacy. The act of releasing much-needed information to the public is NOT the same as-- nor does it in any way translate into-- sexual assault.

So where did they get all of this information from anyway?
The number one suspect is Bradley Manning, a private in the US military who is suspected of obtaining the documents while on duty and releasing them to WikiLeaks. He is currently being detained in a military prison camp, and according to many close to him, he is being deprived of basic human rights.

Why would Assange and Manning risk so much for this?
I'll leave that for YOU to decide.

Most of the information I have given here is accurate to my knowledge, but has been provided from memory. Feel free to correct or argue with me.

If you have any questions about the issue, I'm more than willing to provide you with what I (think I) know.

the_casualty : actualy hes in england i belive.he was questioned years ago in sweden and cleared.now sweden want him extradited to them to be recharged.Julian wants the trial held in britain because he thinks sweden plan to extradite him to the usa.due to this claim the uk are debating whether giving him to sweden is a breach of his rights,he could end up in guntanom bay if the us get him.he had to pay a ridiculously large bail.Jigsaw:considering hes european i doubt hes part of cia, probably just a humanitarian.this charge was thrown out years ago,its no coincidence it reignited after wikileaks.it also corosponded with the arrest of bradley mannings(whos being kept in terrible conditions),the government clearly think there citizens are simple idiots.

I don't think the rape allegations discredit any wiki-leaks documents. It does not  matter if did or did not rape that woman, I still consider the wiki links credible and important. Julian did not single handedly create wiki-links or obtain the documents, so it shouldn't have any bearing on wiki leaks if he is a criminal.

I personally think that what WikiLeaks is doing is very important. As people of a supposed democratic nation it is important to know what our government is up to.  I feel there should only be one exception, and that would be posting precise information of the exact locations of Military units as this could lead to many peoples deaths. However, I think it is important to know this information shortly after the military is clear of that area.

To add onto what I was saying before:

Being a supporter of WikiLeaks, one thing that has always bothered me was that it does try and sell itself too much. Julian Assange is far from the perfect hero, and he's certainly not Jon Lennon. But that's the thing-- does it matter?

So here's what I want to ask you: Even if WikiLeaks is not well-intentioned-- even if it is part of some "psy-ops conspiracy"-- should there still be SOME organization that serves as a watchdog for the government, which exists outside of the government, and is exempt from prosecution by that government for exposing its lies?

US Government is built on lies and that is no secret. Politicians lie to get into office, CIA stages false flag attacks and breeds domestic terror cells like Al Qaeda (which is the only reason why they are a domestic threat), the president uses the word freedom to make it look like a good thing and that it is something that is gained in a war when in reality it is war that takes away our very freedoms, our justice system is based on money not whether you are guilty or innocent, most sections of government use sick tactics in order to meet their status quo, US government funds and also outsources to other countries like pakistan but then turn around and say they can't help fund their own citizens and troops, we are trillions of dollars in dept but still in operation???? Only can the US Government do such sick things and get away with it. They deserve to be exposed
