Inindo - Way of the Ninja Review by: thudricdholee - 8/10

Bet you've never head of this game.
Don't worry. I never had either. In my quest to find new and strange new favorite games I'd never heard of, I stumbled on this game somehow. I'm not even sure how I got here, to be honest. But I'm glad I did. This game is really bad, in places, and really rough, in other places...but it's strangely enjoyable and addictive. If you liked Final Fantasy, you might like this game.

Graphics: 2

Oh, wow. These graphics are really, really bad. Worse than the original Final Fantasy. Just rough. I felt like I was playing a really outdated apple color game. Pixelated, blocky and just terrible even for an original Nintendo game, and this was a Super Nintendo Game! I was really shocked when I double-checked the system it came out on.

Sound: 2

This is another one of those twinkly, electronic horrible soundtracks that got muted about 5 minutes into the game. The fight music is half-decent, but other than that, the repetitive nature of the music is terrible.

Addictiveness: 7

This was the shocking part of this game. I was not into it. I was not having fun. But when I died the first time, I didn't even hesitate to hit continue and try it again. And the second time, again, no hesitation. The third time I threw the controller down and walked away...and came back and started again. I don't know why, but this game just hooked me.

It's...fun. Your little dude zips around the map like a speed demon. You are constantly being challenged by jerks trying to turn you in for the reward or steal your coins. You get a level and all your HP are back, just in time to save you. You recruit new people. You have to spend time wooing people. It's just...interesting. And the story is a typical revenge thing, but you want to know what happens.

Story: 8

Typical revenge story line, but thank goodness...no princesses to rescue, no world to save. It's all about kicking the rear end of the person who did you wrong. It's refreshing to have a story line purely about selfish personal issues for a change. No mystic quest, no call from the gods. Just you, some training, and the ultimate goal: Kill someone. I can get behind that.

Depth: 5

I give it a 5 not because there's a lot to do, but because there are more things than just the basic storyline. You have to recruit people to join your party, which means tracking them down and talking to them. There's jobs you can take from the local lords (usually spy work) that, while a bit repetitive, open up new interactions. And the map is huge. You're not going to burn through this really fast.

Difficulty: 8

Well...this game is oddly difficult. The battles in each dungeon start off impossibly hard, but you level up and suddenly...they're still hard. I burned through the first dungeon all confidently, only to get repeatedly slapped down hard in the second dungeon. The random characters that pop up frequently smear you across the floor without any trouble at all. I can't count how many times I croaked. It gets a bit ridiculous. And you start out with so little magic and hit points that you can burn through your magic just curing three members of poison. It's kind of insane.

If you play this, save frequently. FREQUENTLY. Like, after every battle, every 'talk'...pretty much every other minute.

Overall:

Like I said, I don't know why i like this game so much. I really don't. But I do. I recommend giving it a try. You might throw your controller and give up after the second or third death, but you might be like me and find yourself coming back to it. All I can say is that it does get better, I promise.

Inindo - Way of the Ninja Game Description

1581, Japan. Fearing a rebellion and striving to conquer the entire country, the warlock Nobunaga orders to attack the Iga ninja clan. The ninjas bravely defend their village, but, being vastly outnumbered, are mercilessly slain by Nobunaga's men. Only one survived: you, the hero of the game. Shortly before the assault you were sent to a nearby village to warn the elder of Nobunaga's attack. However, the other village is also destroyed by Nobunaga's army. You swear to avenge his crime. But for now, you are just an inexperienced young men, and are "wanted" by Nobunaga's men and ruthless bounty hunters. Will you be able to unite Japan in the ultimate struggle against Nobunaga?"Inindo: Way of the Ninja" is a console-style RPG with a touch of strategy. You navigate your hero on the world map, visit towns, and descend into dungeons. The battles are turn-based and are viewed from a third-person perspective, like in Final Fantasy games. You can move on the battle field and use melee or long-ranged attacks. You'll be able to recruit characters of various classes to your party, who will join you for profit or for other reasons. After you gain enough experience, you'll also be able to talk to daimyos (feudal rulers) of various castles and to convince them to work together against Nobunaga. You can also perform various tasks for the daimyos, such as spying.

I kept talking to Hanzo at Mikawa to get him to join. Great stats and fly for free awesome.

The way to kill the ninja is get 2 or 3 medicines at the castle to the right of that cave first then level then face him.
drizzit19 05-28-12 - 04:52 PM
the game was designed to be difficult...rotf
drizzit19 05-28-12 - 04:50 PM
lol, if ya need help, add me, I can walk ya through the parts you are having trouble with.

This game is awful. The graphics are awful, the setup is mediocre, the fighting set up punishes beginners... "go to a cave and level up... and then get jumped when you come out by an enemy with endless full-heals who takes your money" WTF, designers?

as far as finding compatability goes, i suggest train more, once you're skills increase, they come flocking to you.
drizzit19 05-13-12 - 07:20 AM
finding a compatable wizard is like trying to get a needle in a hay-stack.
drizzit19 05-13-12 - 07:18 AM
my party consists of mikazuchi, kusou, great for healing/battles
EtaniVolf 05-12-12 - 04:49 PM
Oh I somehow managed to get Tenkai just after Mt. Fuji....but now I can't find a decent warrior that shares some compatibility. Hanzo's across the checkpoint, and I'm not waiting in Mikawa for him to come back.
EtaniVolf 05-12-12 - 04:46 PM
Ise and push straight for the win.
EtaniVolf 05-12-12 - 04:45 PM
I've never gotten far enough, but that is the safest bet. He's not defending 3 fronts and he's fairly aggressive. Plus, the distance from Nobunaga gives you time to gather strength. But if you can defend Takeda long enough, you only need to take over Is

there's nothing like the full feeling of complete victory by starting from one side of the country and wiping out all territories.
drizzit19 05-11-12 - 09:21 AM
 personally i choose Date Mas

 god bless sabotage
EtaniVolf 05-09-12 - 09:15 PM
Then you add the choice of who's side you wish to take in the war against nobunaga. Personally, I'd go with Takeda because of the feud between the two. But having Kai and Totomi province right at his front door is a double edged sword.
EtaniVolf 05-09-12 - 09:13 PM
I'd say more challenging. The unique 12 field combat with movement was something rather new then. Then you have the subclasses, and the semi-sandbox gameplay that lets you travel most anywhere and choose your fighting team.
drizzit19 05-04-12 - 06:47 PM
yes and even now it's just as challanging as any rpg of this time!
EtaniVolf 05-03-12 - 06:09 PM
Goodness, this game takes me back. I used to own it when I was younger. I can't believe how hard it was to find another copy of this game. So I'm rather glad it's here on vizzed.
