Ninja Baseball Batmen Review Vizzfan23
Hello all of you gamers and arcade loving people in the world. My name is Vizzfan23 and this is my Ninja Baseball Batmen retro game review. For all of the people that read my last review over WWF Wresltefest, you know that I think that Wresltlefest is one of the best arcade games of all time. Well since I love arcade games a whole lot , in this review I am going to talk about my second favorite arcade game. It may be one of least known games of the arcade era but still it is really fun. That game is called Ninja Baseball Batmen. Hopefully you will enjoy this great review over a very underestimated game of a great gaming era.
Have you ever imagined a game filled with ninjas and baseball. Well if you ever have this is the game for you. Ninja Baseball Batmen is a terrific mash up of Double dragon but with baseball bats and living gloves to fight. Even if that doesn't make you excited for this game then maybe the fact that only about 20 of these arcade machines where made with only about 5 of those coming to the states. That would make this fun arcade game one of the rarest games of all time.
Even with the rarity of this amazing it would not be same without all of the terrific graphics that gives this game its awesomeness. The animations of this game, in my opinion are some of the best ever produced on the arcade platform. The animations really help the fictional feel of the game by making all of the living gloves and fighting playing cards makes me feel like that the animators really took their time to form this part of the game. The terrific color scheme of this arcade classic really makes the game come to life. What I mean by that is that would you really want to play a Mortal Kombat or Super Mario game without the great colors that make the characters and stages rememberble. Unlike many games, I couldn't really find anything wrong with any of the graphics which helps the graphic part of the game earn a perfect 10 out of 10.
Although the graphics of this lost treasure are perfect, are the sounds of this amazing game up to par? Well as soon as you
insert your hard earned money into the machine the game will let you know with a deep voice saying "Oh Yeah." Even after the game starts the sounds of the bats smashing into your enemies and the sound you make while running sound very clear and realistic. I mean there are very few mistakes in the sound quality like when ever you throw something at an enemy for a slight second the sound quality of the game drops very severely but is most of the time unnoticeable. Even though the drop in quality is very rarely a problem it still brings down the rating of the sound from what would have been a perfect 10 out of 10 to a nearly perfect 9 out of 10.
Even with the perfect graphics with the near perfect sounds that the game releases into to your home, what is the point of playing the game if it is bland and boring. Well this game is the complete opposite of bland and boring with its really bright colors and terrific beat em up style of game play. Right off the bat you really notice that this game really uses all of the common things that are used in a game of baseball they make into really fun and crazy enemies and bosses that will keep any form of gamer in the arcade or in front of the computer(to play the ROM version) for a very long time. I mean I have caught my self playing this game for 3 or 4 hours at a time. I really think that any body that loves the classic games like Double Dragon and Final Fight will really enjoy the combination of beating up a whole lot of baddies with the fun of getting to use ninjas. Come on who doesn't like ninjas using all of their cool skills to try to save the world. So with all of the awesome enemies and terrific style of gameplay that this title offers really helps this game earn its 9 out of 10 rating.
Now even with the perfect graphics and nearly perfect sounds and addictiveness that will keep bringing you back to this awesome game, it just wouldn't fell quite right if this amazing game lacked a great story, a good depth, and a nice difficulty that fits in with the design of the game. The story of this amazing arcade game is a very simple one that the developer really makes it feel like that it could be on the big screen as a movie. One day an evil corporation named Jado which breaks into the National Baseball Hall of Fame so they can steal 7 different ,golden baseball items and use them to take over the world. The commissioner of Major League Baseball then calls upon the 4 ninja baseball batmen to try and recover all of the stolen items. See what I mean, that sounds like a terrific story that any person in Hollywood could turn into a 5 star movie. Because of that I believe that the storyline of this game really deserves a very good 8 out of 10 rating.
Even with all of these great things like the perfect graphics and very good storyline where would this game be if there were no depth or any challenges for the gamer to over come. Well the depth of this game is what really forms the storyline of the by forming 8 different environments with 3 different parts to each which really helps this game one of the few games that can actually keep a gamer coming back over and over again just to replay the amazing story. The story however is the kind of story that slowly brings up the difficulty of all of the enemies and bosses until you finely get to the final boss which is so hard that it will take at least 3 or 4 tries to defeat him. All of these reasons lead me to believe that both the Depth of this amazing beat em up and the difficulty of the enemies deserves a decent 7 out of 10 rating.
So after deeply looking inside this long lost action/beat em up style game, what is the overall rating of it. Well after taking all of the ratings of every single aspect of the game into account I am going to give this game an very awesome 9.4 out of 10 rating. This is very high for an arcade game like WWF Wrestlefest (it earned a 9) and Mortal Kombat (It earned and 8.6) which it really an understatement for this arcade game. I would definitely recommend this game to every person I have ever meet.
So with that, this is the end of another Vizzed.com retro game review. If you know any good games that I should review, just leave a comment below.

Ninjas and Baseball = Ninja Baseball Batman Shogun Gamer
Check out my video version of my written review if you don't feel like reading, or if you want to see the gameplay in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyOeXCnZ2E&feature=plcp
Ninja and Baseball. What do they have in common? NOTHING! But if you were to fuse the two together, you'd get more than just something. We are talking about NINJA BASEBALL BATMAN! This game has received much popularity thanks to the Angry Video Game Nerd, and now Vizzed.com's arcade emulator, MAME. Apparently, the game was overlooked and sold poorly even though it was just so amazing, and cute. Well, onto our review of the one of kind beat em' up.
So, this is the
basic rundown of the game. You take control of one of four Ninja Baseball Batmen called in by the commissioner of the Baseball Hall of Fame to search America for the 7 missing artifacts of the Baseball Hall of Fame. In each stage, you fight all sorts of enemies, from baseball bats holing baseball bats, to dogs dressed as Chicago gangsters wielding guns. At the end of every stage, you fight a boss who holds one of the artifacts, and after defeating them, a cute cutscene plays showing where your character's next stop in America will be. The ending, I shall not spoil, but if you really want spoilers, look at my screenshots.
The gameplay controls are very simple. You can move around in 8 directions, jump, and attack. However, there's quite a bit you can do with just three controls. Of course, you have your usual basic attack combo on hit, and you can jump and attack enemies. You can also use alternate attacks in the combo by pressing forward on the attack. Holding down the attack button and pressing jump allows you to use the character's special attack. When knocked down, you can press the buttons and movement controls to do a recover attack. There is also the run ability by tapping twice to the left or to the right which can be followed up with jump or attack for dash tackle and slide kick respectively. Walking directly into an enemy allows you to gab them to throw, strike, home run strike, or use a super move on the enemy. Pressing both attack and jump allow for a powered home run strike which consumes a bit of health. To perform a super, you can grab the opponent and press both attack and jump (however there is an alternate way to perform supers without grabs). Then there is Ninjutsu, which is done by jumping into the air and pressing back, forward jump and attack, or forward back jump and attack. So, for simple controls, there are many functions that can be used, especially when making large combos.
The gameplay itself is simply addicting, fun, and great to play with friends. However, don’t assume the game is easy because you beat it a few times through. The game is actually difficult for the fact that it’s very simple to die, you can kill yourself by abusing your super moves or ninjutsu, and if you were to act as if you were really at an arcade with only 5 dollars worth of tokens, (which would be 10 credits for a 0/2 tokens games), you probably wouldn’t make to the end of the game. The reason I placed 5 as difficulty is because the controls are the simple part, and the difficulty is the tough part. There are two minigames in Ninja Baseball Batman and I must say with my speedy fingers, I’ve never completed one minigame ever. These side games include squeezing a baseball flat and punching a baseball flat. The game also offers some unique offense items and recovery items, such as baseball bases acting like ninja shuriken, and cereal which recovers a good portion of the life bar. The charm of this game is all in the mechanics and creativity I find. It’s cute, it’s exciting, and I just feel a lot of the ideas in the game were done just right.
The graphics are quite smooth and full of color. I must say, out of the beat em’ ups I’ve played, this might be the most eye candy I’ve seen. I really can’t get over doing supers and ninjutsu just to watch the awesomely creative animation. However, I must say, the fire animation as red circles could have been a little better, but it’s still nice on the eyes. There is an emulator issue on the credits when the cast of the game is shown, it not only causes lag, but you see a blinking green screen. Of course that probably didn’t happen in the normal arcade, but I’ve really nothing more to say about the graphics. On comparison with other beat em’ ups, this beats a few games with its unique qualities. Not to mention, it’s very funny to watch Roger show off different positions of him flexing his nonexistent muscles while he walks, show off.
The music and sound in Ninja Baseball Batmen, where should I start. I’m not much a fan of the music, but I can’t get it out of my head either. It’s very unique just like the game, but I have no detailed ways of describing it besides it sounding funny and exciting. If anything, the most I can say about it music is, it’s very metallic or robotic in some way. The sounds on the other hand are very baseball like whenever you strike your enemy, so it’s actually quite refreshing to hear noises that aren’t common in most beat em’ ups. Not to mention, it’s pretty funny that Roger’s super move uses the sounds of a bass drum and crash cymbal when he slams the enemy on the ground multiple times. The small bits of voice acting in battle are pretty cool, especially when the characters shout out their special techniques similar to Street Fighter.
The story in the game is nothing like dungeons and dragons, but it's a little more than final fight. With little bits of funny cuteness in the cutscenes, it's nice to know how the characters socialize with each other and lets us learn more about them. From the cutscenes, you can automatically tell Jose is known as Captain Jose for a reason. As a leader, he's always level headed and never fools around like all the other characters. However, I'll let you the gamer play the game to choose who our favorite character is. For me by personality, I like Roger.
The depth of this game doesn't seem as huge when looking back on it, but giving some thought, the game was done just right. The stages have multiple parts to them, the game is plain fun, the enemies are funny, there are 7 stages, the bosses are tough, and there is eye candy all about. Out of all that, I have to say that's a pretty nice package, and, it's a beat' em up, not an adventure game. Fulfilling as it is, it does what every good beat em' up should do which earns it a 7. Could they have done more, maybe, but I feel it's just right. Overall, I have to say I love it. This game could also serve as a great introduction to those who have never played beat em' ups due to it's simple controls and unique gameplay.

Not what it would seem to be ReapersDenial
Just by looking at this game some people might walk away from it, but I high recommend that you don't. This is a absolutely awesome and addicting game that can be played with up to four people. It may just look like baseball but it is in fact a side scroll beat'em up that has been overlooked quite a lot. I had to pull myself away from the game in order to post this. This is a unique beat'em up that is incredibly creative and actually can be quite humorous from time to time. You have the option to choose between 4 different characters each of which have their own type of fighting style. I played as Rhyno I believe his name was, and he was a fast little guy that used two bats and caused a lot of damage pretty quick.
This beat'em up is up there with some of the bests such as, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. It will not surprise me that mos people will take a look at just the name and lose interest, but I really hope this isn't the case. On top of being a humorous and fun game, the boss battles are actually pretty unique on their on, well the boss characters that is. Now I'm not very far into the game at this exact moment considering the time, but I can tell this is one of my all time favorite beat'em ups as of now. As well I noticed that the characters have a special attack which I believe i by pushing both the attack and jump button at the same time. This will cause your "Player" to do a home run swing and knock just about every bad guy out of the screen. I made it up to a point where I was being attacked by baseball bats on a plane and then I was attacked on plane by a plane, how ironic is that? There are a lot of different and unique types of mini enemies. Now the plot of the actually story is a little confusing, but i'm not going to spoil anything so people can experience the game on their own.
This game will make you die a lot. However thanks to the coin system it has, you can just keep playing and enjoy the experience, in fact I would recommend playing the game with a friend just to boost the fun!

Ninja Baseball, Batman? supersonicracin..
Okay, what what's Ninja Baseball Bat Man? Well, it's one of the most UNDERRATED games of all time. The game is a 2D side scrolling beat-'em up game, with, baseball stuff slapped on. Even the AVGN made a video just for this game. It's quite sad how this game is not really known, only 43 arcade units were in the USA. Well, enough of me blabbering on about some random information about this game, LETS GET TO THE REVIEW!Graphics: 7It's your typical arcade graphics, decent. Not much to talk about here, but on one note, THIS GAME CAN HANDLE ALOT OF STUFF ON SCREEN. Like Jose's ninjestu, you have a lot of cubes on screen, with the enemies and background, and BAM, HUNDREDS OF EXPLOSIONS, and the game just probably drops 1-3 frames,Sound: 8The music is pretty catching, the voices are clear, well, sorta, and the sounds are good.Addictiveness: 9This game is amazing, almost infinite replay value, no glitches on normal play (Well, except for me now with a test menu glitch, I have to use it to start the game now.?
) Just a really good beat-'em up at it's finest.Story: 5Well, the story's the only thing I don't like about this game, the story is that some baseballs stole the 6 golden baseball statue items... And hid them all over the US, and you ?have to find them. Not much of a fan of the story :|
Depth: 7The game has 6 stages, which are all based over real life US locations, all stages have a boss, and some have a bonus stage at the end.Difficulty: 8This game is as hard as heck, well, now it isn't with the free coin thing and that stu-But back then, THIS GAME MADE YOUR WALLET EMPTY FASTER THEN YOU CAN SAY "MOM! I NEED MORE MONEY FOR THIS GAMEEEE!"Overall: 9.7
