Andre Agassi Tennis Review by: Azul Fria - 4.4/10
Horrible Tennis gameOVERVIEW
Andre Agassi lends his name and likeness to this horrid game where you go up against seven other generic tennis player in hopes of becoming the Tennis champion. This is what you may consider to be the full screen version of the Game Gear port which includes camera motion action.
GRAPHICS - C+
Pretty much the games only saving grace of this game as it does give a very detailed display of the four available courts: grass, clay, hard and indoor. I don't have a slight understanding of how they influence the gameplay except for looks alone. The character profiles are sub par especially the one character named Don Matt looked like someone grabbed him by the throat and yanked it up cartoon-style. While Andre Agassi looked good on the box, they really mess up his mullet on the profile portrait.
SOUND - C-
The music and sound are too bland to enjoy. Each character does have their own unique theme when ever they win a set. The sound of hitting the ball and it landing on the ground seemed to had been borrowed from Pong.
GAMEPLAY & CONTROLS - D
The controls are almost non-responsive. It's hard to move in one direction without being clear across the other side of the screen and the learning curve is hard because it is hard to swing at the ball and get a successful hit. I sometimes find myself swinging at the ball and missing or the ball will hit my body and I lose the point/match/set. The only part that I can get right every now and then is the initial serve then it falls apart from there. Sometimes I can't control the ball is going to go. I end up hitting the ball out of the court and sometimes I will hit the wrong button and lose. It just gets annoying after a while. At least the Genesis version had a practice mode.
ADDICTIVENESS - C-
I do agree that the game starts off as being addictive at the beginning since you are trying to get used to the learning curve of playing the game but after several failed attempts to win at least one match or one set for that matter then you will start to get very annoyed with the game and turn the game off. The opponent almost always plays too perfect except for the occasional fault that they do upon serving.
REPLAYABILITY - F
If you are really serious about making this game work in your favor then best of luck to you because this game is not even worth your time. The Genesis and Game Gear versions are more superior to this version of the game.
OVERALL - D-
The graphics in the game is the only thing that kept this game from getting a full blown F. I was totally unimpressed and frustrated by this game as I had a hard time just winning at least one face off. Only once did I win a point but not the game.
