The Simpsons: Repetitive Reckless DrivingThe Simpsons: Road Rage is a simple driving game where the goal is to use your vehicle as a taxi to take various characters from The Simpsons around the city of Springfield. It's a simple game, but it does provide some fun game play. This game is geared more towards the casual gamer, and its various aspects reflect that. Now let's dive in to see just what this game has to offer, and whether or not it's even worth playing.
Graphics: 6Before anything else, you've got to remember this is an Xbox game. You can't expect the graphics to be anything exceptional, and they really aren't. They're pretty much the average graphics you'd expect from an early Xbox game. However, you can tell what everything is, everything that you see is very unique, and the world around you is very colorful. Though this game does not provide anything extraordinary as far as graphics go, they do good enough to get by.
Sound: 4The Simpsons: Road Rage has some basic sound effects, but nothing really spectacular. Even though everything has the right sound, all of the sounds are rather uninteresting to say the least. The music is fairly weak as well. The game's only strong point in the sound department are the lines. All of the characters sound right and the lines can be rather amusing at times. Unfortunately, you only need to play the game for a short time before you begin to hear the same lines being recycled over and over again. The sounds could definitely offer more than they did.
Addictiveness: 8The game's strongest point is, without a doubt, how addictive it can get. There's nothing like simple game play to keep people coming back, and the goal of this game really couldn't get much simpler. You can play this game several times without it really getting old. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those games you can really get into. It can be repetitive, and that can turn many people away. But if you don't mind performing mindless repetitive tasks, then maybe you should play this game for an hour.
Story: 3This game has a very weak plot to justify why you are driving around so much. You see, Mr. Burns has developed a radioactive bus system, and he's making a lot of money by abusing this power he has. So you, the humble citizen you are, choose to offer a taxi service in order to counteract Mr. Burns. That's pretty much it. As you can see, the plot of this game is very limited.
Depth: 4The game play of The Simpsons: Road Rage requires you to... drive. That's it. You're just driving. This by itself does not offer much. However, the game does have many little additions to beef itself up a little bit. You can choose from several different characters, as well as six different neighborhoods to drive around in. There is also a difficulty
selection system. This game includes a mission system as well, but the missions are very underdeveloped and usually last a minute at the very most. There are also free-roam and multiplayer game modes. But all of this aside, the core game play offers you very little.
Difficulty: 4There really isn't much to offer as far as difficulty. The controls are relatively simple, and the game play requires you to just keep going until time runs out. The missions could take a few tries to complete, but they are all very short and can still be completed relatively quickly. There is a difficulty setting, but all it does is change how much time you have before you're done playing.
Overall: 6.5This game really doesn't offer you all that much. Despite whatever name they put on the game mode that you are playing, you are driving around Springfield and that's all you are doing. Despite this, the game play can be somewhat fun, especially if you're more into casual games. This isn't the best game that you could play, but it's good for killing some time if you ever get bored.
