Princess Tomato and the Dragon Warrior? endings
Great Greed is like a strange combination of many other games. You are whisked away by the ancient sorceress, Microwave to save Greene Kingdom from a evil man called Bio-Haz. No he's not a zombie. The over world can be a little confusing, especially some of the enemy areas. Battles are random encounters, you will be fighting one enemy at a time, no more, no less. Bosses you often intercept in the over world, converse with, then battle. There are a few times you can be assisted by others in battle, but 95% of the brunt is on your shoulders - so get used to fighting alone. Most of the odd people are named after food or kitchen items, much like point-n-click NES game Princess Tomato and the Salad Kingdom. The combat is standard dungeon crawler style, large graphic enemy in front of you, your standard attack/magic/run away situations. Some light equipment upgrading, not a lot of variety, but important. You are a destined hero, and it reminded me of Dragon Warrior. But I will not spend this review referencing other games, this is about Great Greed.
Graphics: 6
The sprites are large when you are in battle, and some enemies look quite wacky. The graphics in the over world are decent, as is the small portrait pictures of some of the important characters. As in many of these type of games, there are Palette swap foes, you will run into the same picture for an enemy, but their stats and name are different.
Sound: 5
Since its Gameboy the music is not great, but the fanfare song when you win is pretty catchy.
Addictiveness: 4
Its a pretty long game, and does have a interesting feature to the ending which is different depending on who you choose. Otherwise no change to the main part of the game. And you could just load your last save file and pick another person for the ending.
Story: 6
The story has a unexpected ecological bend. Some of this is done in amusing ways; for instance if you pick up trash, you have to pay the shopkeeper to get rid of it. After some time the save the Greene got a little preachy. Not that you are unappreciated. At the end of the game though, lets just say anybody will do what you say.
Depth: 5
Its a pretty big game, lots of overland areas, the last boss's area can be challenging to navigate. There is nothing more to this than some slightly different endings and music test and such.
Difficulty: 7
This game has a bit of a grinding aspect to it, if you are not strong enough, level up fighting until you can beat the boss. Some areas have a really high random monster rate. Since its just your character fighting most of time, enjoy the bits when someone helps you in fights.
