I remember back one day, All of my friends were excited about this old video game for the PS1 called croc legend of the gobbos, It was this cute little platformer starring this crocodile who must save these orange little creatures from baron Dante, I did have the game for a little while, but then my friend borrowed it and never gave it back, But then a few days later I found a Game boy color version of the game! This is croc for the game boy color.
Story-7/10
The main plot behind this game is that one peaceful day in croc's world, him and all of his friends are just relaxing quietly, But then this evil guy named baron Dante has came to the land to kidnap all of he gobbos! Gobbos are these cute little orange creatures that are good friends with croc, It is now up to croc to save the day!
Gameplay-7/10
Croc is your typical platformer, you control croc, a green crocodile as you adventure through more then 20 big levels collecting items, defeating enemies, and most importantly saving the gobbos. The controls are pretty simple for a Game boy color game, A is jump, and B is attack, And of course D-pad is move. Each level consists of the following items to collect, the letters B O N U and S, Collecting all spells the world Bonus, then you can play this jigsaw puzzle game, gems which represent your life meter, collect as many as you can, or else if you die with no gems left, you lose a life! Huge element of sonic right there, and last but not least, there are the gobbos, these litle guys have given peace to croc's world, collect them all and defeat baron Dante! Each world consists of 5 worlds, after all of that comes a boss fight. Anyways, I guess that is the gameplay, oh yeah, the game uses password save, which means you must enter a certain password in order to replay your favorite levels.
Graphics-9/10
The graphics in this game are pretty good! Considering the game is made by Argonaut games, the same guys who made this one fighting game I have for XBOX, But anyways, the graphics in this game are nice big and colorful, exactly what you would expect from these kind of games, All of the worlds you will be exploring are big, cartoony, and bursting with atmosphere! As for the sprites, they are really good as well, Croc looks good, the gobbos look nice, and baron Dante looks....OK, Much better in the PS1 version.
Sound-7/10
One thing I remembered from the original PS1 version of croc is the overall happy and bright soundtrack, Yeah, The soundtrack is really bright and happy! All the songs you will be hearing in each level really fit the mood of each level, As for the sound effects, they are OK, you get booms, boings, and a bunch of other 8-bit sound effects. But the music in each level can get a little repetitive, but It is no big deal all that much.
Addictiveness-7/10
Is this a game I am going to play again? Yeah! I remembered having so much fun with this game! I mean, sure the PS1 had alot of more stuff and was longer, but this portable version has alot more to it! Yeah, the bonus games, the bigger amount of levels, etc. I remembered keeping this in my Game boy color for like 3 days straight!
Depth-7/10
This game is pretty long and has alot of stuff to collect, I mean for one, each level has a plethora of gobbos to collect, and the bonus games as well, And the game is about 5 worlds long, each with 6 levels, so the game will most likely take you 2-3 hours to beat. Pretty longer then the PS1 game.
Difficulty-6/10
The game was pretty challenging at times, but in general, Some levels just felt really easy and don't have enough challenge, As for the bosses, the bosses were actually pretty tough! They could take you a couple of lives to waste before you can work out how to beat them. But in general, the game shouldn't give you much trouble after that.
Overall-8.2/10
I can't choose which version of croc is better, But I would have to pick both! They are both very cartoony, cute, and filled with challenge. So I gave this game an 8.2 because how much fun it is, So buy this game if you find it! You will not be disappointed!
