Not much... I personally love to play chess. I was pretty excited to find this game, and I still play it quite frequently. This game won't teach you chess, so you better know how to play it before playing this game (obviously).
Graphics: 7/10
Graphics are okay...not the best however. Chess pieces are pretty easy to distinguish, but I had a little trouble remembering which piece is which because the graphics are blurry. I mostly confuse the King and the Queen, which look similar. Other than that, everything plays out smoothly. Once you distinguish each piece, game play goes by much better, and there is also the option of changing how the pieces and board look like as well, which is pretty nice. There may be a different look that possibly is kinder to your eyes, but each person has a personal preference.
Sound: 2/10
There is no music. The only sounds I hear are the SFX in the menu, and the little music after each move and opponent move. I am fine with no music, since it helps with concentration, but the SFX and music after each move really bother me. The game is quiet to begin with, but then you introduce these little unnecessary bits of music after each move? Did I mention loud too? It isn't a huge bother, but if you really are into your game, it'll annoy you a bit.
Addictiveness: 5/10
I say a five out of ten purely to state "in the middle". Chess is chess, this game doesn't change that. Chess may be addicting to some, not addicting to others. This grade mark is not negative or positive, and is rather a variation from player to player.
Story -/-
There is no story to chess.
Depth: 3/10
Considering this game is quite simple, not fine detail or anything, depth is not very high. There are some reasons to constitute to a three out of ten instead of a zero or one. The little pieces of music, even though it really wasn't the best of options to add, shows a little character to the depth of this game. The fact you can customize the board and pieces also factors into depth. Otherwise, that is it.
Note: When talking in regards to depth, the game itself is not a factor. Chess is chess, and it will have a large depth to some, small and meaningless depth to others.
Difficulty: 5/10
In the same regards to addictiveness, a five out of ten is purely for means of "in the middle". There are many people who cannot play chess well, while there are some who are even savants. The difficulty is based on the player...there is not option for difficulty...if you are a good player, the difficulty is very easy, and vice versa.
In the end, this game does not have much going for it in regards to a review, since it is a simple game, and is more of a template, rather than something that can be changed. Chess will be chess, there are no "remixes" and remakes.
I would recommend this game to anyone looking to play straightforward chess. It's designs are simple, and is just meant to play chess. No in-game tournaments, just a match. Graphics
