Hamburger?   Melancholy
What would you think when you see a game called "Hamburger"? Perhaps another crappy game with a title that has nothing relevant to the game? Maybe that is why when Midway was given permission to make cabinets in the US they changed the name to Burger Time? It's still a weird name but at least there is some "PIZAZZ" to it. It may be worth a try.
Now the game starts off with a board similar to Donkey Kong, That is if Mario had to dodge ingredients to a hamburger. There are ladders and platforms full of buns, lettuce, and pizza? Assuming that is a burger considering it's called Burger Time and not "Pizza Burger" time.
The goal is to make a burger by walking on all the ingredients to drop them down onto what I think is a plate. The other ingredient for each burger are on the platform above the last. Walking on one ingredient to drop it down while there is one below it will make it hit the one below it and stop, making the ingredient it hit fall down. This will keep going until an ingredient doesn't have one below it so if you walk over an ingredient right above the plate it would simply just, hit the plate.
Your best bet is to go to the top and walk over all of the ingredients on the top level than go down one level below and knock down those ingredients and so on.
While doing so you are chased by some very angry foods. Some hotdogs, eggs, and pickles go on a crazy rampage of touching you. Of course most golden age arcade games have the enemy only wanting to touch you but these foods seem really pissed for some reason. So pissed they want to touch you. Yeah! It's that bad. And when they do touch you, you start to freak out like crazy. You can stun the enemies with pepper and can collect more pepper by collecting bonus items like ice cream. You also can kill the enemies by dropping the ingredients while one is below it. The more enemies below the more points instead if just 500 each. However the enemies come back. You can also knock down the ingredients while an enemy is on top of the ingredient to knock it all the way down to the last platform. Probably the best strategy.
Graphics,
Some graphics are done really good, While for some reason the enemies are hard to get use to. You can tell what they are it's just odd looking.. I don't think they could have done better with the enemies. I think I am just not use to seeing sunny side up eggs try to kill me, Or at least make me freak out on my back.
Sound,
While not obnoxious some sounds are just weird. The music is great. I love the music, but the sound of walking on the ingredients are odd. I give it a 9 because I think it was pretty good for it's time considering the music.
Addictiveness,
I have never heard of anyone having nostalgia for this. Is it possible for me to have nostalgia for 1980 games considering i'm 15? I had nostalgia for the odd smell of my Nintendo 64 controller once, odd? I have never seen an arcade cabinet for this. In fact there are a lot of good games I have never seen an arcade cabinet for. Donkey Kong, Q*Bert, Gauntlet.
This game is oddly addictive for me to keep playing it to get on the impossible high score board. It is so hard. Is it just me?
Depth,
This game doesn't seem to go deep. It's always the same and there are only six levels. While you progress there are new ingredients and enemies but that's about it. The board changes every level which is about the most interesting change in the game.
Difficulty,
As I said, this game is hard. The enemies surround you forcing you to use your pepper. The pepper can't be used while moving or on ladders and the enemies can kill you on the ladders even when they aren't climbing them. The pepper also gets scares and you need to learn when a good time to use them which can be hard. There are only six levels so it may explain the difficulty.
Closing Comments,
While burger time is not fairly known it's an interesting game that would have been worth a few quarters back them. The difficulty is one reason why I wouldn't want to play this but stepping on burgers? Burger stepping is actually pretty fun for some reason.
