Balloon Kid review
Four years after the release in North America on the NES classic known as Balloon Fight, a sequel was made for the gameboy called Balloon Kid. Could this game possibly be better than it's predecessor, or was Balloon Fight better? I'll tell you my opinion on this subject by making this review.

Graphics: 7/10 For an early gameboy game, Balloon Kid is a very nice looking game. The character sprites have great detail and the enemies also look very good for an 8 bit game. The level backgrounds look very nice, especially Pencilvania. (yes I said Pencilvania and I know it almost sounds like Pennsylvania) The forest and cave levels also look detailed as well. I will admit there are better looking games for the gameboy, but Balloon Kid has good graphics so I'm giving the Graphics a 7.

Sound: 8/10 Balloon Kid's soundtrack is very similar to it's predecessor. A lot of the music that was in Balloon Fight is in this game, as well as some new music such as a boss music. I feel like the new music in this game is just as good if not better than the music from Balloon Fight. The music in this game holds up pretty well against other gameboy soundtracks in my opinion, so I'm giving the sound an 8.

Addictiveness: 8/10 Balloon Kid is just as addicting as Balloon Fight. Dodging enemies and flying using balloons has never been funner. There's a story mode and there's even some boss fights in this game as well. Also Balloon Trip mode makes a return as well. All of this fun content make Balloon Kid a pretty addicting game. I'll admit there are some games that are more addicting on the gameboy such as tetris and pokemon, but Balloon Kid is one of the more addicting gameboy games out there, so I'm giving the addictiveness an 8.

Story: 7/10 Unlike Balloon Fight, Balloon Kid has a storyline. A young boy named Jim gets blown away from his home by the wind because he has too many balloons on him, so his older sister goes after him by using 2 balloons of her own in hopes of rescuing him. On the way, she will have to travel through a number of locations and make it past enemies in order to save her brother. Will Alice be able to save Jim? Or will he be lost forever? For a gameboy game, I think Balloon Kid has a pretty good storyline. It's definitely not the best story out there, but it's good enough for me to give the story a 7.

Depth: 5/10 Balloon Kid has a similar amount of depth to it's predecessor. It has the same Balloon Trip mode that Balloon Fight has, but what sets this game apart form Balloon Kid is the story mode which I already explained. Other than the story mode though, Balloon Kid didn't offer anything new to the series. Because there aren't very many game modes in Balloon Kid, I'm giving the Depth a 5.

Difficulty: 5/10 The one part of Balloon Fight that I didn't like was how easy it is. I made it through the entire game with ease and I only died once in my playthrough of the story mode (or as the game says, 1-P mode.) The only aspect of this game that can be difficult at times is the Balloon Trip mode, which is where you try to make it as far as you can across the course and collect balloons along the way to increase your score. If you touch one of the electric dots, it's game over. That part of the game can be difficult because avoiding those dots can be tough, especially when there's a bunch on the screen at one time. Because of how easy the story mode is and how difficult Balloon Trip is, I'm giving the Difficulty a 5.

Overall Score: 7.5/10 Balloon Fight is a worthy sequel to Balloon Fight. It has very nice graphics for an early gameboy game, it has a good soundtrack, it's just as addicting as Balloon Fight, and it actually has a STORY.  Even though the game is pretty easy for the most part, Balloon Kid is in my opinion even better than Balloon Fight. Overall, I give Balloon Kid a 7.5 out of 10.
