Mecc's Second Journey Down the Amazon   classgame
So I guess considering how well received Oregon Trail II was I guess this drove MECC to make a sequel, but the higher ups probably said Do not do what we did with Oregon Trail II, however by the time this game was released the company had been acquired by Softkey (and so was the Learning Company if SoftKey sounds familiar one of the Sharks on Shark Tank founded the company) but I guess it gave the opportunity to combine teams or something, I have no idea what went down I wish I could find out more information about the production and development of this game, or any of the games that were done with live action actors (all I can say is the actor the portrayed Austin Billings in Oregon Trail 3 showed himself on youtube though not on my channel)
Gameplay and Story: You are at this Museum of Ancient Art when a jaguar shield suddenly comes to life and tells you the Ancient ones have a message for us, along with a guide we take a journey down the amazon, fish with harpoons, gather fruits and vegetables to eat and take pictures of animals, meet and trade with interesting people and avoid getting sick as much as possible until you get to Vilcabamba
Graphics: so you might notice that even though everything is an upgrade from the first game, you would also notice that the third game actually fixed several things (you'll see when I post....ugh I think I may have to do a silent playing of the game if I can resist fishing and exploring as much as possible, because does anyone really want to hear me talk? there's a reason why some of my commentaries are age restricted) well you will also see when I do some screenshots, I'm not going to do too many screenshots for this game because I plan on doing a majority from this game for Amazon Trail 3 since it's very different but also quite the same) the blue mist is definitely different in this game (and a different sound goes with it, I don't think it was in the third game so instead it was used as an autorun screen sound) Also the scene transitions work differently, they're like screen wipes. oh I see you peek-a-boo green screen when the guides are talking to you in the status, and in the map, and if they tell us we are sick, so graphics are kind of an issue in this game and not to mention the animals can move a little too fast
Soundtrack: Well what I can say about the soundtrack is that well like I said in Amazon Trail Three we get background sounds at locations but not when you are on the boat the background music changes after you do everything. There's just one issue I have with the game, when I played this on the XP Box in VMWare, the guides voice would speed up in status and map mode, or if they were telling you that you're sick...yeah they screwed up in the guide graphics department
Addictive: I only played it in full once, the fact that the game wouldn't work in the XP Oracle box or my Windows 98 VMWare box (well not work well enough) played a major factor in me not playing it right away. Though before I did manage to acquire a copy of this game (and before I took full advantage of the internet archive) I really wanted to find a way to play this game but during the decade I took advantage of Value Village the game had proven to be a white whale even though I found a copy of the first game in 2011. And boy was I lucky on a July day when I managed to find this game (and Where in the USA Deluxe...but then I had to get my computer in to get a new keyboard because it stopped working)
Depth: When I did a full playing of this game three years ago it took me more than three hours to finish it, it basically tells me that this game is too long (or I spend too long fishing and exploring) one thing they keep from the previous game is that they tell you that we have more then enough fish. Another Major difference is the character will tell you they will trade with you before the trade pop up comes up, oh yeah we could have used those trading packets in the first game (I wonder what was in them) In the third game the jaguar doesn't tell you if you've passed through another time and place (though the first one tells you that Remember you're still looking for such and such)
Difficulty: The only thing difficult about this game is that, we couldn't interrupt dialogue which really tried my patience (another reason why it took me more than three hours to finish the game, but those quipos measure the number of people you talk to, the fish you catch, the animals you ID, how much time it took you to get here) Oh I almost forgot I don't know what I did wrong when getting to Aguirre but for some reason I didn't say the right thing and the Jaguar still tells me they still have something to tell me so I had to miss out on getting that item for the Jaguar shield
Post-review follow up: This game is a hit and the miss at the same time, we get double the guides we got compared to the last game, we don't need to get anything for the Inca King most of the medicines we have in the basket is stuff we take for ourselves (and Teddy Roosevelt) and thank god we don't have to get anything for the Inca King because it took forever to get that mask....so if anything the stuff here is an upgrade except in the graphics and the dialogue (which is the only deal breaker for me in the game)
This concludes my review, join me tomorrow when I review....*checks notes* Arthur's Reading Race, now I have to get ready to play You Don't Know Jack Television again
