This really sparked the platforming genre, and there is a good reason why. This time I won't talk, and just get into the review.

Graphics : 9/10

I personally like the graphics. They are fun and interesting. From the fireworks at the end of the stages, to the variety of blocks that you can break. The only real complaint I have is that Mario's clothes match his hair. That's an age old complaint, but It confuses me. Everyone else had different colors, why did he not? I'm sure there is a good reason that I am overlooking. Until then, I will have to pretend he is furry.

Sound : 8/10

Super Mario Bros has wonderful 8 bit music, and some cheery sound effects. I love both the effects and the music, but after a while it does get annoying. Just slightly, and not half as bad as the other games that have loops. They still remain lovely to this day, but after about an hour it makes me turn the volume down a little. Mainly the jumping. It's the best Mario jumping sound effect, and it is recognizable, but it is annoying if you jump a lot. It's definitely not the worst sound effect ever, specifically for jumping, but I still am not fond of it.

Addictiveness : 10/10

Once you get into this game, it's hard to put it down. I love playing it for hours, it keeps getting better. The time I stop is after losing, but I always come back to it though. It's like an addiction, hence the Addictiveness rating! I think this game has a very high replay value. Thirty years later, people still think of SMB when they think of Nintendo. It's one of the games that made the NES a classic, because once you start you don't want to stop!

Story : 7/10

The story is good, but it's confusing. I know this was an early 80's game, so story wasn't a big concern as long as it's fun. It's like that today. I still think that it is kinda hard if you are new to it, that you have no idea! It's pretty generic nowadays, the difference is the fact that the generic games copied the idea from this one! This spawned so many kill the boss, save the princess games. It's the most classic and most fun story I have ever seen though. I think that the save the princess games are the most fun. Whether you're a knight in shining armor or a plumber in  brown/red clothes. I think that's why it has a high story rating, because it's fun and interesting.

Depth : 10/10

Even with fire flowers and warp zones, only the skilled speed runners can make this a 5 minute game. If you just like to enjoy the game, your in for a good, long, and challenging time. This game takes a while to beat. It also takes commitment, if you are willing to face the challenge head-on, then you deserve to beat it. Well you deserve to enjoy, but it takes commitment to successfully make that dream true.

Difficulty : 8/10

It's hard, I know. Oh goodness it is so hard! No saving ability, small amount of  lives, and 1-2 hit deaths. I know it's pretty hard. But it's not really hard until the later levels though, and there are lives/powerups you can find. If you practice enough, you can get the hang of it. So all in all it isn't really that hard, and it isn't really memorable for it's difficulty. I think it could have been way worse.

Overall : 9.8/10

I think it's a classic no matter how many people hate it. Whether if it's too hard or too long, I like it. Tell me if you agree with me down in the comments. How would you have it be changed? Tell me that down in the comments also! If you want a specific game review tell me to do it, and I will as soon as I can!

My lease favorite boss is Bowser from Super Mario 3D Land. You have to kill him twice, and avoid death. If you lose most of your lives, then you have to leave and restart. He's bullcrap, and it's no fun.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Yes, this is just the beginning hopefully. If my plans go well, I would like to go to Full Sail University for gaming development/designing. Then I would hopefully know what makes or breaks a game.

Oh no... Well if you haven't heard it from AVGN, prepare to hear it from me. Are you ready to dive head first into this pile of SNES poo? I hope you enjoy this review, because I sure won't. Enough annoying talk though, let's all lose a few brain cells because of this garbage. Note : I've taken into consideration that it would be best to leave my overall thoughts until last.

Graphics : 1/10

Usually I would joke saying : What graphics? Not for this game though, It's such a sad reality that not even hilarity can save it. The graphics stink, not like other games. This game avoids analogies, because it's that bad. It's so horrible it's impossible to compare to even the worst games I have ever seen. That is saying something. So I'm sorry, if you need an analogy or a comparison of any kind to know more about this game, I can't even try to compare. I personally think that any other game looks better. Of course Atari couldn't help being simple, that was the beginning of the video game evolution. This is 16 bit, so it is more complicated than the Atari 2600, 5200, or even the 7800. It still stunk though, even in 16 bit and it's magical powers.

Sound : 1/10

Don't get me wrong, I like "I love Beijing-Whatever it was called" But that song is annoying, and it doesn't even take a break. 10 seconds in you wonder if it will ever stop looping. Not even after restarting does it stop. If I recall, there is no other sounds, whatsoever! I think every other game sound is better, even the loops smaller than that! This is a comparison, and I said I couldn't even think of one, well I'm sorry. This games music and is bad. Just as bad as the graphics.

Addictiveness : 1/10

I will never play this again, and neither should you, it was a failed attempt, and should never be played more than once. I don't have anything else to say about it's replay value, because there is none.

Story : 2/10

I hate the story/ Since you can't feel my hate, allow me to tell you why I hate it. It is lame and it steal copyrighted images and people's names without any sort of consent or even knowledge of what is going on. Other than that, it's stupid. the only reason it gets 2/10 is it's so stupid, it's funny

Depth : 1/10

This is literally a 5 minute game. Worst complexity I've seen in a game. I don't even know where to begin. It contradicts the story, and still makes no sense. It's as deep as a wading pool. I think you would agree with me. I think the creators of the game would agree with me.

Difficulty : 10/10

Note : 10/10 difficulty means it's very hard. I don't even know what to think, It's impossible! You get killed by everything! I can't beat it, and it's so simple! So hard and no fun.

I know this review was so short, and this will not happen again. The circumstances of how bad this is though, there is nothing to say. I am being honest, play this and you will be speechless too. It's crap, I'm never reviewing something like this again unless it's personal demand. Goodnight/Morning/Afternoon, and please don't play this game. Don't play this game ever. I know I won't

If you like this review please like and comment. If you have criticism in mind, tell me. If you want another review, PM the game, I'll play it, and I'll review. Note : if I say something that offends you, remember that reviews are to criticise based on personal opinion.

janus : Thank you for keeping your criticism cordial. I will try to improve my later reviews, but I was afraid to do too weak of a review. I am afraid to ruin it by not having an analogy, but I went too far. I will try to make my reviews better, I am slightly new at reviewing thinks, I have past experiences, but I am still a little nervous when people. I will try to keep the game reviews from not being enjoyable. Thanks for your post!

Contra, those who tried to copy it's concept, usually failed. Contra is so good of a game that not even the most infamous of game developers (good or bad) can make anything close to it. It had it all. The controls were good, the graphics were pretty good, and overall it was a fun side-scrolling shooter game. The concept is simple : a platformer mixed with weapons. The fluidity of the game is hard to re-create. Now, onto the game review!

The graphics weren't bad at the time, it uses 8-bit well, and it looks pretty good, it's not an ugly game. Compared to the other games on the system, it's not bad. Now it seems interestingly older looking, but it is a retro game. Back then it look pretty nice. I don't really have much to say about the graphics, they were okay for the time and technology back then.

It doesn't sound bad, once again that was back then. Though I still really don't have much to say about the sound, games back then didn't rely on sound anyway. If a game is playable, you probably won't notice the noise unless it sticks out of the rest.

This is that type of game I have an insatiable urge to beat. I will play this game over and over until  I'm better at, no matter how many times I die. I still have a hard time sometimes. This is the type of game that is hard to master fully, but you want to do it. I find myself coming back to it once in a while, but I have a hard time putting it down compared to most games.

There isn't much of a detailed story, but you can tell it's a war scene. I don't have many plot twists to reveal (Not that I would) because I never really get far into the game. You can tell the bad guys are enemy soldiers, and you are a good guy trying to stop them from something.

As far as depth goes it was innovative as one of the good games, if not the only one, to have multiple-direction shooting. It's simple too : Down on the D-Pad aims down. Other games screw this up, so you can compare this to The Terminator games by LJN, or some other game that really messed all over the control schemes. Basically contra has the best controls of any platform shooter.

Of course you can put in the infamous "Konami Code" which gives you extra lives. I still have a hard time playing this game though, because I am horrible, but for just about anyone else it would probably be easier. I think this game is a real challenge.

Thanks for reading my review, if you like it or dislike tell me through Personal Message or just call me out in general. If you have an idea for the game review tell me, I will play the game, and tell you what I think! If you truly hate it, please tell me how to fix my mistakes in the future.

Note : This is my first review so please give good criticism! If you enjoy this review contact me with a game and I will make a review of it as soon as possible!

Contrary to public belief, it wasn't the first FPS game, though everyone has to admit that it was very innovative at the time.
It's the God-father of FPS shooters, and a good one too.  Without this, fps games would have not been here until sooner. It is similar to Wolfenstein, but they co-exist rather than copy from each other. Doom was in my opinion one of the best First Person Shooter games ever, and one of the best Super Nintendo games. Let's start this review!

Overall It is a great game, and it is fun to play. There were many bad Super Nintendo games, especially ones that experimented with perspective ideas, and it was awesome! I advise this to anyone that likes 16 bit FPS, or just FPS in general! This game is what people think of when they think First Person Shooter, well aside of Call of Duty, but this is a retro review. I might review COD in about 20 years, when it's retro. This game is a lot more deep and puzzling than most modern shooters, I would choose it over most of them.

As far as the graphics go, it was very good at the time, any 3-D FPS perspective was hard to manage, but doom does that and more.
The enemies have pretty good animations, now it seems primitive, but this fairly older. Explosions were detailed, as far as the explosive canister breaking down before finally giving in and exploding, which did look cool. Gunfire has a more macho touch of muzzle flash that makes Doom-guy look awesome, you may not notice it, but it is a nice touch. It was a little better than Wolfenstein, even though it came out after Wolfenstein it looks pretty good. Overall the graphics were not bad in any way I can think of.

When it comes to sound, the Super Nintendo version of this game had pretty, good music. It was a lot better than the Atari Jaguar, and this one is probably my favorite version of all of the systems. The Gunfire has nice sounds, and I think that the music/sounds coupled with the 16 bit capabilities made it great! It isn't perfect though, after a while of playing, the sound of the demons does tend to get annoying though, but overall the sound is great!

This game is quite addicting, but there is a few flaws. If you are demon hunting, it can make you want to play it for hours and hours. The motivation to win is very thick in this game, I can hardly stop myself. If you are stuck on a door or puzzle, you will most likely want to solve it. Puzzle solving is a natural instinct, and games use it to their advantage. There are multiple levels to choose from, so that can really keep you occupied. Now onto the flaws, if you spend too much time trying to solve something, you have a good chance of getting bored while doing it. Plus, if you are new and you keep dying, that won't leave a good first impression, and might affect just how much you like this game. A tip to remember is it takes time to figure it out, other wise it would be too simple. Take modern games for example, the goal is shoot and win. But in the original fps games like this, you have to actually solve it, and this makes it way more fun to kill time playing this game.

Note : I don't think this can spoil it, because the story is obvious, and I am avoiding anything that makes the plot different.

The goal of the game is to kill the enemy demons, in fact you really, really want to kill them. You are like Rambo or The Terminator, your goal is to take out as many as you can, then off the boss/villain. This is a traditional story, but I am not going to go into detail about plot twists or things like that, to try not to ruin it for new players. As for those who have beat it, I don't think you need to hear the story from me. Now onto the Depth.

The depth is good and fun, it isn't a shallow 10 minutes of demon slaughter, but more of a mission that requires effort, such as Castlevania or other famous classics. The game retained the ability to have bad guy killing, and a good challenge. Something that other games ditched far before then. It also gives you a variety of enemies and weapons, something common nowadays, but it's still good that it wasn't just gun and fist. The enemies were good and creative, which is a lot more than other games could claim to have. This game also is very clever. It doesn't rely on a room with a few waves of the enemies then continuing forward. It isn't just a slash-n-move game, but it isn't boring either.

Finally, the difficulty. It has armor and health pickups, of different values and strengths, but it isn't overpowered or just easy. It isn't hard but sometimes the difficulty is too much to handle. It isn't for people who want an easy win, but it isn't impossible either. Another good thing is it has various difficulties with clever names. No hard, easy, and medium. It still has good names though.

This concludes my review, it is a awesome game, bye!
