Midway released a bunch of arcade classics in the 80's and 90's. Games such as NBA Jam and WWF Wrestlemania, this is one of them. As such, I am here today to review this game, which I enjoy.
The game play is honestly, the best part of this game. It's addictive and quite fun, which requires a fair bit of skill, especially with a keyboard. The whole point of the game is too score on the other teams goal, just like in real life hockey. This requires you too master 3 basic controls using the Control, Alt, and the Space bar. Control makes you go faster, Alt shoots the puck, and space passes on offense while on defense it swipes at the enemy team. These are required to make the experience more enjoyable.
The graphics are okay, as in there standard for an arcade game at the time. Their clear, and their better then home consoles in the mid 90's. There's music and sound effects in this game as well, which I also find okay. Their quite catchy tunes for me, but their VERY repetitive, playing though the majority of the game. It gets stuck in your head, and that always sucks. I do like the majority of the voice samples and sound effects, which I personally believe put a little bit of personality to the game.
This game has no plot, but the main goal in my opinion is to become the Stanley cup champion. You do this by beating every other team once, before challenging the final team to possibly win the cup. Besides that there's nothing to count on for a plot. Sports games really don't have plots because it isn't a fantasy ordeal so its excusable.
Overall I give this game a grade of B+. I really love this game, even though it has some problems. This review was mostly negatives and mehs but I had to talk about them. This game is a blast with friends and its great to see your opponents crumble. If you're a hockey fan, such as myself, then you will enjoy this game. If your not, then I hope this game gets interested in the sport. I'm out, peace.
