In this walkthrough I will briefly be detailing the way to get off the Great Plateau, and other helpful hints for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

The game begins with a mysterious voice telling the main character, Link, to awaken from his slumber. He awakens in a room that seems to be a fusion of medieval and sci-fi settings. Running to a small pillar ahead of you and examining it prompts another cutscene, where this "mysterious voice" tells you that the item that pops out of the pillar is a Shiekah Slate, and it prompts you to take it. After taking the Slate, the door ahead of you opens, revealing two chests. One contains the worn-out trousers, while the other a worn-out shirt. Go to your inventory by pressing the + button to equip these (You don't have to, and this leads for some funny dialogue later, since Link is basically in his underpants). Examining another glowing pillar forward, it prompts you to hold your Shiekah Slate up to the eye shape that looks like the Lens of Truth from past Zelda games. Doing this opens a door to the outside, and leaving reveals a massive open world that is the major focus of this game. A small cutscene plays, showing an Old Man walking over towards a campfire after looking at you. Now, the game is fully open from here. You don't have to talk to the Old Man unless you want to leave the Great Plateau, which is only a small fraction of the game's map.

From here on, I will detail the most efficient way to play the game. This doesn't mean you can't play it any differently, however. First off, make sure to pick up anything that sparkles. These could be materials for cooking, gemstones, different weapons, or even quest items. Be sure to pick up at least one Tree Branch before speaking to the old man. This will serve as your first weapon for an encounter with an enemy. They break easily, but upon defeating an enemy, it will drop it's weapon, which is much stronger compared to the tree branch, but still one of the weakest in the game. Go and speak to the Old Man (or take his baked apple on the ground, it's much funnier). He will tell you that the Great Plateau is the birthplace of the Kingdom of Hyrule, a kingdom which was destroyed by an event 100 years ago. He also directs you to a large building in ruins. He tells you that this is the Temple of Time, a major location in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. From here on you are free to explore wherever you wish, but I suggest going to the higher portion of the Temple of Time first, the part with the Goddess Statue inside. In front of the main entrance you will encounter a Bokoblin. Defeat it with your Tree Branch and take it's Boko Club. Now enter the Temple of Time, and turn left immediately. You will find a chest containing a Traveler's Bow, your first bow (Please note that this does not contain any arrows, you must collect those on your own). For future reference, your inventory IS limited in some ways. You can carry up to nine weapons at a time, 4 shields, and 5 bows. Everything else is unlimited, as far as I know. After running around for a bit longer, the Mysterious Voice will speak to you again, instructing you to head for a point that has been marked on your Shiekah Slate.

Head for that point, and I recommend that you defeat any enemies that you may come across on your way. When you arrive, you will find a small cave containing yet another pillar. Placing your Sheikah Slate in the slot on the pillar. By doing so, a massive tower rises from the ground. This is the game's first Shiekah Tower. These allow you to obtain map data for the area around you, this one giving you a map for the Great Plateau. You are atop the tower, and the mysterious voice directs your attention to Hyrule Castle, which is surrounded by a dark mass called Malice. Out of the Malice, the head of a figure arises. The Voice explains that this is Calamity Ganon, the one responsible for Hyrule's destruction over 100 years ago.
