Super Mario Bros. was released around 31 years ago. To celebrate the game that saved the gaming industry's 30th aniverssary, Nintendo released Super Mario Maker, where players can create their own levels with limitless possibility. The game was released on September 11, 2015
for the Wii U. How good really is this game?
Graphics - 9
The
graphics in this game are obviously used from the older Mario games. There aren't really any new graphics other than the Mystery Mushroom
costumes. The costumes always do a great job of showing off which
character is which. If you press up on the control pad, some of the
characters will have this unique sound they make along with a pose. If
you press down on the control pad, the characters make a different pose,
but with no sound. The fact that there are so many different character
costumes in the first place makes me want to get them all!
Sound - 9
Again,
like the graphics, the sounds in this game are from the older Mario
games. The only new sounds you'll find are de-mixes for the older games.
For example, there is no airship theme in the original Super Mario
Bros., so they made a Super Mario Bros. airship theme. It's actually
really good when they do stuff like that, too. But by far, my favorite
thing related to sounds in this game is when you're making a level. Each
time you place any tile down, a noise in the background will play and
say something depending on what tile you put down. Its voice matches
with the song, and it's really really cool.
Addictiveness - 10There
is so much to do in this game, and each time you do something it's
almost different every time, making for a very fun experience. I play
this game a lot because of how entertaining it is to both play a bunch
of levels and make a bunch of levels. Of course, I prefer playing them
more, but making the levels is also fun. You're going to find yourself
coming back to this game a lot, and you won't be able to escape it.
Story - N/ASuper
Mario Maker does not feature a story due to the nature of the game. The
closest thing that you could call a story would be the 10 or 100 Mario
mode, where it's basically a short version of a typical Mario adventure
where Peach gets kidnapped and you have to save her.
Depth - 10
Games
like these always have the most depth. More than any other game out
there, in my opinion. Since levels can be created from all over the
world and uploaded to the internet, there's almost a limitless amount of
levels to play, as well as levels to make. There are always interesting
and new ideas I find in Mario Maker levels that are just so much fun.
Not to mention the mystery mushroom costumes. You can unlock them by
either beating the 10 or 100 Mario challenges multiple times or with
amiibo. You can also clear event stages to get them I think there are
around 150 costumes, so it'll take some time to do.
Difficulty - 10
The
difficulty in this game varies depending on the level you are playing,
but when it gets hard, it's HARD. And I mean REALLY hard. A lot of the
levels seem almost impossible. You may think that there must be levels
that are impossible to beat, but that's prevented thanks to the great
idea of having to beat the level yourself before being able to upload
it.So glad they made it like that.
Overall - 9.3
Super
Mario Maker is the perfect game for anyone who's just looking for
something fun. Not only does it practically re-invent some of the older
Mario games, but it introduces some new concepts as well, such as
stacking enemies on top of each other. If I was stranded on an island
and I could only have 3 games, Super Mario Maker would be one of them
for sure.
EDIT: Stupid formatting messed up and it won't let me edit it, sorry about that.
