Ghostbear1111 :   Well gent, it just feels like a misnomer. Years 0 through 99 probably were not called the first century as the ancient people at the time were experiencing them. Similarly the full hour following midnight is not the one O'clock hour. The inconsistency with how historians label the passage of time... that's the gripe. They pore over history because their low cognition could not do something as advanced as calculate projected returns on the stock market in real time. They are defective and yet for their knowledge of what defunct info was written on old pages, historians are revered.

So in summary, poo poos on you. Go prove your importance by liking something on Facebook now.

Postman3 : I like the sass. You're a spunky little guy, huh?

I'm curious as to where you heard the 60 minutes following midnight is the one o'clock hour? No one has ever said that since 1st grade when they learn time. 60-119 minutes following midnight is the one o'clock hour.

And sure, people who didn't understand time or didn't have a universal measure to it probably didn't call it the first century. They had no idea what they were doing except looking up at the stars and seeing the passage of time via mapping the phases and positions of the moon. Historians may not control the future but you certainly seem to have a beef with them. Did one bully you as a kid?

I'm seriously asking: Why are you so angry about this? According to your profile, you're a grown man. At 31, you're still upset at a huge group of people? I'm baffled.

And I just liked a video of a man making his cat clean up shredded paper on my 12 year old cousin's facebook because I know the *ding* will make her happy. It's important to her so I indulged. Thank you for the support of that.

Ghostbear1111 :   One, stop mind reading. I'm reasonably convinced you're not psychic due to the rarity of it. You cannot at all sense my real emotions so there is no way you can tell if I am angry. As it happens, I am not and I have not been. Those insults towards historians were impersonal ad hominems. Don't try to make it an all-or-nothing hate thing because it is not. That's your prerogative to extoll that tempting mind-trap, not mine.

Secondly, let's try another example. The 1990s were clearly not the 2000s so why is such fallacious logic applied to the centuries[just the next one up] when it does not apply to decades. Faulty classification leads to gaping misnomers. There is a flaw in that thinking as I have calmly pointed out (albeit pointedly with similes). You see now?

Regardless of what you were taught in school, some of it is just plain silly. Unless we challenge items that have distorted merit, nothing ever changes.

Best wishes to you and your cousin.

Postman3 : Just so we're on the same page, your fancy phrase "ad hominem" is an argument or attack directed against a person and not their argument. It's an insult to their character or motivation, not a position or dogma held by them.

So, impersonal ad hominems is oxymoronic and speaks to personal attacks. Personal attacks and using insults in general indicates an emotional engagement or vestment with a group, such as historians.

I'm done with the conversation since it won't go anywhere. Just so you know, it's easier to use words you understand than going to the thesaurus to fancy up the post.

Unless you're not a native English speaker. In that case, I accept your position and I agree with your points. You're right.
